14 years working on the railway today

To work by train. Most of the day spent driving a train. Home by train. And I still fire the layout up for an operating session. What is wrong with me?

How long has the UK motorway network been virtually impassable due to congestion with traffic during the middle of a working day in August? Not even the usual day for going to or from your holiday! I gave up in disgust last Friday when driving from Devon to the Wirral, and left the awful M5 at Ashchurch, eventually trusting in the A49.

It was 47 years ago today...
