  1. How have I never ventured down the A57 between Glossop and Sheffield?

I've used Woodhead on many occasions and it's never really a pleasure, you don't really get great views and it's full of lorries.

Went to Rails  yesterday and the most direct route was on the A57, once you've got through the traffic in Glossop it's a lovely route.  On the way back got a couple of pictures of Ladybower.  Coming back in the Spring for a proper mooch around the area.

  2. I decided to sell some of my stock this week to fund my dip into DCC and DCC sound. Worked out what I would accept recognising that a shop will offer less than I could get through Ebay and waited for the offer back. It was bang on the money for what I expected and today I made the trip over to Sheffield to drop off the items. I could have sent them through the post but fancied some time out of the house and a couple of hours back and forth in the car over the Peak District sounded nice. Dropped the items off, within 10 minutes the offer had been confirmed based on the condition of the goods and I was immediately able to then make some purchases off my credit. A very smooth service and nice to see some friendly faces. Yes I could have got more selling directly myself and I have done quite successfully previously, but I looked at the number of items and decided it would be easier selling in one lot than having to go through the effort of selling individually and I didn't want the constant back and forth to the post office at the moment.
  3. I wasn't insinuating anything underhand, just that in the 1950s the space program was more under wraps and not in the glare of social media as it is now. I've seen the many conspiracy theories about lost cosmonauts and most of that was put to bed when the main protagonists were found to be fabricating their recordings and once the cold war ended then records were available to scrutinise. People were more likely to disappear for political reasons in the USSR than any cospiracy to cover up missing spacemen.
  4. So what does that tell us about full entry into UK market - it is using the Kato proprietary DCC solution
  5. I understand it's still a 6 pin PCB with a speaker in a housing, so the non sound 108 is just as it was when first released. The others coming out now are designed around Next18 and have a speaker fitted. The next class 14 appears to be a Next18 model as well, the non sound version shows the Next18 chip in the additional items. If that is Next18 then an 08 cannot be far away and will the Panniers/Jinties get an upgrade too in due course.
  6. We got Neil Armstrong to the moon, however, he tripped up as he left the module and smashed his helmet causing the suit to depressurize. Still counts!! But seriously, it was another impressive test and as they have a good idea of the cause of the failure they can address it. This is like the 1950s except they are now doing it completely in the open - how many rockets did they blow up before they put a man in orbit I wonder.
  7. Right hand drive, excellent, what are all those dials doing in front of the passenger seat.
  8. Two steam ranges with sound and two diesel ranges sound ready is where we are, the 108 is a sort of inbetweener - some have sound but fitted the hard way. I would expect perhaps a Peak range with sound to follow the OO Peaks and the 40s, and a Black 5 / Jubilee chassis revision as per the 8F to follow as well. The 08 is another item that needs attention - it's not even got a PCB. Next18 with speaker fitted seems to be the new standard though which I am very pleased about.
  9. These are Dapol products rebadged under the Gaugemaster Collection range, just showing 09s now on the website. No release date given, it could be they don't have sufficient orders yet to buy the slot to build their models or simply that Dapol haven't assigned a slot to build them. Have you tried contacting Gaugemaster direct, whilst messenger is a means to contact it is not the only means and it may not be monitored as often as you'd hope or expect. https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/magento/contacts/
  10. I guess sponsors expect the company's lead driver to drive at the final event of the season, equally the FIA would expect a fit driver to drive so Mercedes have to cover all bases. I would prefer it to be George again but at the end of the day it is Lewis's seat.
  11. Perhaps they are worried Sainz will refuse to move leaving Vettel at Ferrari and Ricciardo without a seat and Perez claiming unfair dismissal. But the daft thing was, it was fine for a Williams driver to drive a works Mercedes in an actual race and gain points
  12. In DCC there are two functions to turn off at either end.
  13. I do like him too, he's character and whilst he gets angry I don't think he is foolish or dangerous. He was a bit of a loose cannon in the beginning, but he was learning how to drive F1 and being extremely fast meant he was always at risk of going beyond his abilities (in fact they all still are). But in the past two seasons he has settled into a class driver and I look forward to him, Hamilton, LeClerc and Russell battling it out in 2022 where I feel the field will be much closer
  14. My thoughts were that they do fire, but I've just watched back a video and it didn't actually appear to fire in set mode - only after it is set to run. So it appears I correctly programmed it. I should be quite pleased - in the space of 2 weeks gone from zero DCC to setting up a Sprog and JMRI, programming a couple of locos, using app based throttles, bought and tested a sound loco and now programmed an accessory. Time to build the layout I guess and bulk buy chips and motors - luckily I have some funds coming to me to pay for it all.
  15. To be fair to Verstappen, if you spent your whole time being told you were the new Messiah and the replacement as multiple world champion when Lewis retires then you're probably going to handle it strangely.
  16. Update: I am somehow programmed the point motor, but whilst it works in normal mode it doesnt fire under the set mode - this is wierd. At least I know the motor is working and the Sprog is creating points but it's not how I expected and I dont know how I have managed it.
  17. Cobalt IP issue I've wired in a Cobalt IP to the Sprog 3, gone to Panel Pro, Tables/Turnouts/Add, IP is set to 'Set' but when I throw the points nothing is happening. Checked the speed steps on the Sprog console, it is set to 128. Using Panel Pro - Power is set to On and the power light on the Sprog is flashing, the usb light flickers whenever I click on a button on the turnout control but no response from the motor involved. Am I doing something wrong?

  19. Correct, you can also switch off the rear red lights so not on when pulling a train in dcc.
  20. Interesting short video on the impact of mining in the Ruhr valley.
  21. It’s arrived, ordered from TMC Saturday, in my hands Tuesday. Apols, awfully big image and I don't seem to be able to edit now.
  22. He say he had options, too soon for it to be Mercedes, but Williams do have a definite opening.
  23. I would hope Mercedes are more respectful than that, Bottas is no slouch and he is second in the drivers championship. He has a year left on his contract, it should be honoured, LH will get another win in 2021 and then he can retire leaving Mercedes to do something radically different in 2022 and bring this era to a close.
