BSC Bromford Bridge tube works exchange sidings
bazjones1711 replied to bazjones1711's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Bit more modelling on the layout , all trackwork now ballast and weathered , now onto the scenery , a lot of the grass now done , next modelling session will involve the likes of the road bridge , elevated motorway , fencing ect . The scenery should be finished by time of its debut outing in August , with just the stock to detail and weather over the next few months . -
BSC Bromford Bridge tube works exchange sidings
bazjones1711 replied to bazjones1711's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Good Friday modelling , BSC Bromford Bridge starting to come together slowly , I have planned the sequence of the jobs to be done over the next few days , sort of goes to plan ... Last bit of ballasting on Sat , then I can weather the track and spray the sides of the rails . Container cabin sprayed and weathered , this will be on the left hand side of the layout near the road bridge . Hope to get the roadway down along with a basic road bridge , plus but more grass along the tracks . -
Class 37 and class 56 , 60 worked the Lackenby to Wolverhampton , Blackburn , Wakefield and class 37 / 60 on Cardiff Tidal services that included the use of the VTG KIA wagons . Class 20 , 31 , 37 , 47 on the Kings Lynn steel traffic ( Whitemoor - Bescot ) usually along with five BAA with wooden cradles . Also sometimes had the Campbell 's PVA soup wagons in the consist . Class 33 , 47 , 73 on services to / from Dover with import / export steel .

A few layouts I'd like to build would be : Great Coates sidings No 1 , and with enough space West Marsh siding which were the other side of the bridge at Great Coates , this area dealt with export stainless slab from Tinsley to Grimsby dock and returning semi finished stainless coil back to Tinsley , plus finished coil to the likes of Wolverhampton etc... Other traffic included imported ilmemite , zinc blocks , I would base the layout around the late 1980's to early 90's . Class 08 , 20 , 31, 37 , 47 , 56 plus a multitude of steel wagons. Kings Lynn dock: A simple one line layout of the dockside with operating dock cranes loading imported coil onto BBA , BAA , SPA and VTG KIA telescopic wagons , plus a second crane to load imported coal into HAA MGR wagons , with just a single class 08 needed . Corkickle incline : A rope operated incline that lasted into the 1980's that was used to for chemical traffic to the Albright and Wilson works , stock would be a Sentinel 0-4-0 , PCA in Albright and Wilson and Lever Brothers livery , ICI Tipair PEA and HTV coal wagons that I think were used only for balanced workings . We have stated another three layouts , Tees Yard wagon repair depot , which is nearly finished , BSC Bromford Bridge tube works exchange sidings , which has just been started that will use a Sentinel , class 08 and various wagons to bring in ingots with outward tube traffic. Lastly Shepcote Lane coil sidings , another layout that will be just a single dead end sidings based on the coil unloading sidings at Tinsley , working overhead crane with loads of coil wagons , class 08 , 20 , 37 , 56 , 60 , 66 . That lot should keep us going for a few years , although I enjoy building rather than operating layouts , only playing trains when we take them to exhibitions .

When I became interested in wagons early to mid 1980's and beyond here are the wagons I remember being used for tinplate traffic originating from BSC Velindre , Ebbw Vale and Trostre . SHA ex SPA pool of 35 VBA VTG KIA telescopic wagons VTG Cargowaggons of various designs plus French Cargowaggon versions OCA from Ebbw Vale ( pool of about 9 ) If I can think of anymore I will post

We will be there exhibiting our BSC Shepcote Lane tippler sidings layout , this will be the first time the layout has been shown outside of South Wales area in nearly ten years , so this is a rare opportunity to see it in action .

Safe paint stripping for badly repainted Tri-ang?
bazjones1711 replied to RailandyOz's topic in Collectable/Vintage
The best advice is to buy some paint stripper designed for the removing paint from plastic models , only my opinion , but using some sort of other chemical may end up as a disaster , from experience I've seen what happened to a Hornby class 31 that was soaked in Dettol , within a day the plastic turned brittle and the body disintegrated , why compromise by trying to use some a product with unknown results for the sake of spending a little more for a product that will work . -

Steel wagons for Great coates sidings
bazjones1711 commented on Paul G's blog entry in Great Coates Sidings No1
Looking great , I'll have to get all my information I have on various wagons that ran through Great Coates junction , here's a bit about SPA wagons Wagon label from a SPA wagon these worked from Grimsby to various places including BSC Panteg with semi finished stainless coil , there were forty wagon in the pool fitted with three wooden cradles. Pool 4151 assigned to Grimsby - various , imported coil. 460335,340,349,355,357,388,405,411,417,422,475,477,479,481,513,528,531,532,565,566 460576,591,595,646,661,673,690,701,705,747,808,854,940,990,1016,1039,1061,1071,1090,1094. total 40 You have made a great job of modelling the junction , I've the pools for the BAA and BBA wagons somewhere , will post when I find them , again great location and modelling, that I hope to model myself one day., -
I'll speculate .... An ICI sodium carbonate PEA tipair wagon , with the chassis used for ASW POA blackadder scrap wagon and the Railease POA stone wagon ...

Link to photo of Pensnett in 1994 , when fireclay was being brought down from Butterwell in HEA , iirc they also may have used TRL POA wagons aswell. http://bescotplus.co.uk/fullsize/37415_Pensnett.jpg

Which Models would you wish from RevolutioN Trains?
bazjones1711 replied to Stefen1988's topic in Revolution Trains
How about the BVA coil / slab wagon in both N and OO gauge that work from Tinsley to Immingham with stainless slab / bloom , although when first in traffic they carried the slab to Immingham and brought back semi finished coil back to Tinsley for further rolling these days coil is no longer brought back , now just one way traffic of slab , although sometimes back loads of chromium ore is brought back to Tinsley in containers mounted on the wagon . Personally i think a model of these would sell , as they ran in rakes , ideal for a class 60 or 66 in all gauges . Having acquired some baseboards I've decided to make a small layout based on the exchange sidings at BSC Bromford Bridge , the layout will be 6ft 2" long by 22" wide . Traffic will be ingot in using SPA , IGA bogie Cargowaggons and BDA wagons for outward tube traffic , a Bachmann class 08 for bringing the traffic in , with a Hornby Sentinel for internal traffic , may add a few SSA and HSA scrap wagons to add interest . Does anyone know what year the works closed or have any additional information on the location .

Took this photo of the Rugby Cement terminal at Stapleford and Sandiacre many years ago , it may give you insperation for a terminal on your layout , plus a drawing from an old Airfix magazine .
