  1. Link to great photo of 37225 at Tinsley with a rake of BBA fitted with six cradles loaded with imported semi finished stainless coil https://flic.kr/p/2iLmBkm
  2. For those interested in the forthcoming Cavalex cradle fitted BBA wagon here is some information on them ( Although these were not coded BWA as far as i'm aware , BWA was for the same wagons converted in 1995 with five ex BZA cradles ) BBA wagon pool 4225 Various to various stainless slab / coil . Total 33 910003 , 006 , 112 , 170 , 179 , 216 , 223 , 234 , 235 , 258 , 264 , 269 , 275 , 292 , 307 , 413 , 420 , 421 , 422 , 423 , 424 , 425 , 426 , 427 , 440 , 441 , 447 , 450 , 461 , 465 , 469 , 484 , 489 . These 33 wagons were fitted with 6 traverse cradles for carrying stainless slab cast from Tinsley Park steelworks to the East coast ports like Grimsby for an onward sea journey to Germany for rolling , only to be brought back on the same wagons now as coil to Tinsley and Panteg , slab also ran from Tinsley to Lackenby and Port Talbot to be rolled into coil , but as these plants dealt with normal steel , the process of rolling stainless was not best suited to these two plants , hence a switch to European plants . These wagons ran with BDA , BMA with slab and SPA , BAA , BDW etc with imported coil either as semi finished coil to Tinsley and Panteg or as wrapped finished steel to the likes of Wolverhampton , Brierley Hill etc.. Liveries of these were black with railfreight logo and red cradles or original bauxite brown with brown cradles ,
  3. 6. We have taken insperation from your posts about Tees Yard and associated replies , still got loads to do mind you , will post some progress
  7. We have started a layout based on the wagon repair depot at Tees yard along with the fueling point , the scenic part of the layout is 7 ft long split over two boards , 4 ft for the wagon depot and 3 ft for the fuel.point , we will have a 4 ft fiddle yard hidden by the road bridge that crosses the yard . Here are a few photos of the progress so far , will post updates
  8. Hello Paul , This location has a lot of potential and interest , one of those locations crying out to be modeled , as for as building this as a layout i've not managed to make a start , maybe something in the future when i get some room or make the junction more of a diorama , although i bought all the track for it , most of this has been used on other projects ,. I would expect the scenic section to be around 7ft long from the signal box to the road bridge , but probably in two sections as 7 ft too long to move around . I have done and continue to do plenty of research , if your interested i can post a list of the most of the steel traffic , workings , wagons ( inc some of the pools ) etc.. that i have researched , you may be amazed by the amount of wagon types used over the years i intend to model ( 1988 - 1990's ) Regards Barrie

  12. Many years ago we started a layout based on the coil unloading sidings that were at the end of Tinsley yard and can be viewed from the M1 motorway , we started the layout but built it on a single baseboard , which was far too big and bulky , so a mark 2 version was started about a year or so ago . Progress has been slow to non existent for a while now , but the idea and planning will all come together one day . The layout is 8ft long on two 4ft boards with just one line which uses Peco code 75 bullhead track and will feature a working overhead crane to unload the imported semi finished stainless coils . Having gathered a vast amout of information over the years , i'm always looking for any additional info on this location , be it workings , locos , wagons etc . I am looking to find out if VTG KIA ferrywagons ( as per Dapol model ) ever went here to be loaded with export coil ,as i've seen photos of the mid to late 1980's of them in the yard at Tinsley . 14. A few of the Impressionist Models from a while ago , i did the weathering on the VTG JXA and POA wagon and put the transfers on the mighty Sheerness Steel JXA , all great models , moto ... if its not available then make it yourself !
  15. As most of the steel wagons are now available in 00 gauge , the BVA cassette wagons that work from the SMACC plant at Tinsley would be a good choice ,these wagons when built in around 1999 / 2000 carried stainless slab from Tinsley to Immingham and the cassettes were exchanged for one's bringing semi finished coil back to Tinsley , there is also a flow of slab to Seaforth although I don't know if coil was ever returned from there . The traffic is now only slab and bloom to Immingham and Seaforth , with some trains having two 20ft containers on the cassette to carry imported chrome ore back to the SMACC plant . These wagons ran with class 60 and 66 and were usually in rakes comprising of most of the fleet with spares left at Tinsley for loading , Link to the wagons https://andrewwills.smugmug.com/Wagons/B-Coded/
