  1. Okay anroar, that is interesting and could solve the (my) problem. I don't think I have a WTT for either of those trains, but I will have a look. I'm trying to assemble my trains as accurately as possible, within reason, budget and skillset. Ergo, I don't want to rush out and buy 12 MK1 CCTs to find out they weren't on the train. I am struggling to find an image of the Glasgow/Newhaven train from 1964 (my time period)
  2. I sit corrected, FC, thanks for that. I have Volumes 2 and 3 of that Larkin series. Volume 1 on order.
  3. That was my initial thought, however the LNER CCTs were only ever of the 4W type. And then there are these: https://www.flickr.com/photos/holycorner/8208436970/in/photolist-wxzQwH-dvmokm-dTuYeN-wvDWtd - 2nd vehicle looks like a 4W CCT https://www.flickr.com/photos/holycorner/20026283802/in/photolist-wxzQwH-dvmokm-dTuYeN-wvDWtd/ - This looks like a mixed train with passenger accomadation towards the rear adjacent the platform https://www.flickr.com/photos/93910018@N02/21857790712/in/photolist-ziuTEy-qaY1Zv-bV6tJr-oe1d6P-x9Bd8R - First vehicle is a SR CCT https://www.flickr.com/photos/33106/15865340503/in/photolist-ziuTEy-qaY1Zv-bV6tJr-oe1d6P-x9Bd8R - First vehicle is a BR CCT So the 1959 appears to be incorrect. Should it be with the caveat of "unless of BR MK1 design" ?
  4. I have read here: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/7-fops/fo-motor.htm that "After 1959 four and six wheeled stock was banned from passenger trains". Yet I have a 1964 Train Marshalling document that states the Glasgow - Newhaven boat train used 12 CCTs for carriage of motor vehicles. A similar number are listed for the York - Inverness sleeper/motorail I am assuming that the former used BR CCT stock, whilst I am aware that the York - Inverness service using LNER CCTs. at least initially, due to weight restrictions north of Perth. I've also seen a number of photographs from the 1980's showing a single CCT in a Fort William sleeper service. So, I suppose the question is: is the statement above completely incorrect, or is it correct but with some kind of caveat? Best regards Scott
  5. Making good progress, and knowing the area reasonably well, it will certainly have a good dollop of the flavour of the real thing. Will you be laying a cosmetic representation of the truncated C&O line under the bridge?
  6. Just when you all thought the thread had withered......., and if anyone oat RoS is watching........ N Gauge Falcon. Please and thank you. Four livery options (albeit the first livery is tenuous). It has an association with the Master Cutler and the Sheffield Pullman, to boot.
  7. I would hazard a guess that it was because that's what they had to hand on the Hornby layout, and therefore it was convenient. Either way, it illustrates the locomotive pulling something.....
  8. What a cracking little layout. The weathering on the roof of the station building, for example, is extremely well achieved. I like the 'jig' you are using for maintaining the the gap between the track and the platform. The grot and grime on the milk tanker and it's locomotive is inspirational. Did you weather them yourself?
  9. Thank you for taking the time to summarise your experience with the Megapoints. I too considered the Cobalt as the most serious alternative, however, having seen a demonstration of the system at Model Rail Scotland, I was attracted to Megapoints by a) the apparent ease of plug-and-play, b) the built-in programmability, particularly for route setting, and c) the semaphore operation possibilities. That said, the demonstration was on OO equipment, whereas I model in N. The advantage, of course, with Cobalt is that it has two built in electrical switches, one for Frog switching and the other, perhaps, for LED rout indicating, or signalling.
  10. The scenery and placement of the railway looks fantastic in these shots. It all looks very well thought out.
  11. This is shaping up beautifully. How did you get on with setting up the Megapoints gadget? I intend to use that system for my S&C control, but I'll need in excess of 40 servos............ What is the purpose of the block of timber adjacent each of the servos in the picture? EDIT: Ah, is that for mounting the polarity microswitch?
  12. Can you advise where the sidings are? I'm not aware of any sidings at Insch at all now.......The site of the old goods yard and associated sidings are now, I think, the station car park.
  13. So........if an N-gauge modeller was to buy one of these, because it's kind of quirky, in BR Early livery or LNER for that matter.....what kind of RTR wagons would be suitable on a small, not-necessarily-prototypical-geographically, four foot shunting micro-layout?
  14. I agree with Roy L S. A unique model for the trade, to incentivise them. If that's what it takes to get the model over the line, then that would seem a good option. I have to declare that I have signed up for one, mainly to help the project.
  15. It is certainly the way to go with these vehicles.
  16. Indeed! Bauxite for me, maybe 3 or 4 in a mixed freight train as well....some tractors would be nice. I see in another thread, you were in for a couple dozen of the Oxford LMS carflats, in 'orribly 'oversized.
  17. Not sure how I missed the video, but they look like the run very well. The coupling distance doesn't look too bad either, from the resolution on the video anyway. I have 22 on order, for a loaded and empty rake of 11 each. If I can find funds, I might add 3 or 4 more..... Is that a Revolution Class B EP sitting forlornly in the loop?
  18. Hi Kris, Yes I fully agree, I was really just highlighting the fact that the pre-order wasn't honoured because Hattons had sold out. I was questioning how they could sell out if the knew how many they'd need to honour all the pre-orders.
  19. Just been emailed by Hattons. It seems they have sold out of the A model, despite my pre-order having been on the books since January. I thought the whole point of offering the pre-order facility was to enable the retailer to know how many they'd need? And of course to guarantee the customer would get what he/she was looking for. The person i spoke to said he'd check with his buyer to see if Dave can supply more, but I've a feeling they will all be allocated. Disappointing. If I'd known they couldn't fulfil the order, I could have ordered from elsewhere. I wonder if anyone has bought and received an A model, who didn't pre-order?
  20. To clarify, I meant I have one of each of the black models in order. And then also two Indian red. And a shark. Combined with the Dapol Grampus' (Grampi?) should be a decent ballast renewal train.
  21. Great news, Dave. I have one of each on order and looking forward to them.
