Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows of anything which can be done to speed up Bachmann 150s (this is the older version where one coach is fully blacked out i'm talking about). Out of the speeds I get out of my MUs the old 150 seems to be one of the poorest performers. The new class 150 gets up significantly quicker than the older ones, but still perhaps a little slower than others, but then again they are slower in real life. It would be ideal if there were a way to increase the speed of the older 150s to match that to the speed of the newer 150s so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this? I find the old ones can be quite slow to reach their top speed when they haven't been run for a few days, and if left for a few weeks they tend to go through a stop-start cycle until they eventually get going. As this is rather consistent across many 150s I have and has always been the case, I'm not sure this is a fault with the ones I have, as otherwise i'd be really unlucky (i think it might be a DCC thing).
The simplest thing could be to just swap the chassis around, but I think I heard the design is slightly different, and this would be a far too costly option for me (I have 5 of the older style)
I was wondering if perhaps there are maybe any electrical things which can be done to increase it's speed?
[i use a Hornby Elite controller with Hornby Sapphire decoders in the 150s]
[Please don't get the impression I have lots and lots of trains, that may be true to some extent, but 150s are my favorite class, hence I have many more of them than anything else]
[i have read other 150 threads but found nothing specific for modifications to speed them up]
