    Panic buying

I doubt it, the Wail smears more dirt on than it removes...
  2. Thanks, its not the way I work. I'm having the same sort of cognitive disruption with new versions of other web software. The new version of Firefox on Android has become completely unusable as far as I'm concerned and the Alexa app has changed its appearance too. I believe its all being done to facilitate those who are devotees of various social media apps, which I don't use...
  3. Oh lord.... btw, the ability to edit own posts seems to have temporarily vanished.
  4. One could comment on the singers knob, but one won't... Please just think of the CHILDREN!!!
  5. Norman Cross. I was trying to remember where it was, you saved me having to look it up! Only if you want to have to run cover-up each time he decides to go for an eye-test...
  6. Then again, self-defeating as it would encourage an influx trying to beat the imposition of such measures. Rather like pre-lockdown parties and gatherings...
  7. Non-Steam Punk! Looks like the designer had fun glueing lots of gears on it! Make your own with Hornby accessories!
  8. The land-based prison camps (Time Team excavated one) were a bit better, though still grim. Perhaps these proposals for hulks and inescapable and inhospitable island detention are the first fruits of that Aussie bloke the Boris recently imported as an adviser?
  9. Thats the one... I'm sure its useful info for whoever started the topic, but its disconcerting to appear in the top four posters!
  10. I'm not sure about the "Highlights" box at the top of the page....
  11. "On The Beach" is contra-indicated at the present time. "A Town Like Alice" is a bit more uplifting. As for the rest of the books, GMFs "Quartered Safe Out Here" is an interesting read, whilst the Flashman series, is pretty good and even over the whole series. I might essay a re-reading of LoTR when the nights really start to draw in! I've just scrolled up to the top opf the page and encountered the Highlights box...
  12. White Rabbits!

And a pinch and a punch for the first of the month if you're so incautious as to breach my 2 metre zone...

  13. The people who complain about "blackface", cultural appropriation and racism in general wouldn't bat an eyelid. Others would be silent for fear of their complaints being labelled "hate speech". I think the rest would think it was a comedian being a comedian.
  14. As noted above, surviving series from the 50s and early 60s are rare, with missing episodes and are of poor quality. There might be room for a "retrospective" on BBC4 or one of the digital channels that go in for that sort of thing. Other problems arise from performers who are "non-persons" nowadays, and with difficulties with intellectual rights over part of the content. Another major problem is over the entire tenor of the content, with behaviour and dialogue that is impossible to broadcast nowadays, even with the most heavily caveated introduction before being shown. I would like to table, as examples of this, "Love Thy Neighbour" and "The Black and White Minstrel Show".
  15. Probably one of those children that you "think" but don't say out loud "Shut up, or I'll give you something to cry about!". Going by the Donks expression....

Its sure to come. The Daily Mail kicked off the current toilet roll story, I'm expecting the Grauniad will leap on the wine waggon...
  17. Over the weekend, Amazon was offering R3814 (the "LNWR" one) for £294* on Sat, which then went down to £281 on Sunday. They had 3 locos on offer. On Monday it was back up to £476 but they were out of stock. So if you were in the market for a black "Hornby" tinplate loco, then it would have been your lucky weekend! * Inc delivery!
  18. I see you've visited March... On topic, I don't know. Perhaps the current health situation is contributing to a hiatus. I've not been that active because of other personal circumstances (space/time wise) so apart from amusing myself in other parts of RNweb, I've nothing (in)significant to add! However, I'm enjoying your virtual adventures! (RNweb? Sounds like a Warship modellers forum!)
  19. My very first train set.... Image source: http://www.tri-ang.co.uk/rpcset.html A Triang RP.C "Primary" set. Now long gone. It was initially powered using the P.40 Battery Controller, but the folly of driving a train set using three EverReady 126 bell batteries at a time soon became apparent and a mains controller turned up!
  20. Well, it was near enough half price compared to the Hornby list price! If a potential purchaser was thinking of getting one and the Hornby/Amazon price tag was keeping the wallet welded shut, then the price cut must have sprung a few seams...
  21. A bar of Aldi's cheapest should be the best that Sharl should expect... At least thats not quite "cooking chocolate"!
  22. It WAS the Amazon slow selling stock algorithm. Back up to £471.50 this morning.
  23. Isn't that the Blackpool Tower? Book early for the Illuminations!
  24. I've a softback book called "25 Years on Independent Television" that covers shows broadcast from 1955 to 1980 year by year considered "important" by the compilers, with photos. I could just find it and start listing old, forgotten stuff.... Off the top of my head: In the Kitchen Sink Drama category: No Trams to Lime Street. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Trams_to_Lime_Street Turgid multi-episode drama: A Family At War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Family_at_War Both, oddly enough, set in Liverpool...
