  1. Looking forward to these. I've got 3 Lima/Hornby versions that will shortly be disposed of.

  3. Yes, Lidl. They've done them the last 4 or 5 years, always the week before Xmas as a special. Last year they were £59 each or 2 for £100. They're just floor standing but I have wedges under the front feet, which is keeping the tipped back onto the wall with no danger of falling. They are designed to be either floor or wall mounted. It's a spare bedroom that was destined for a planned model railway this year, but it's on hold as it looks likely that I'll be moving house this year.
  4. No can do. 135 is weathered and 200 isn't, therefore I count them as seperate liveries Ahead of you on that one.
  5. New club magazine arrived today. The limited edition model is a Mountsorrel Granite mineral wagon. 504 models each in OO guage £14.95 and N gauge £14.50 + p&p
  6. Looked at the Pics first and thought "I actually quite like that". The sort of thing my Grandson would love and a half way house between a basic train set and starting to make a proper model railway. Thought you were being a bit harsh and was about to say so. Then I saw the price ....
  7. My turn for a newbies question. Are you varnishing the whole loco bodyside, or just the area over the new numbers? I guess it's airbrush if the former and paint brush if the latter?
  8. Fantastic. Those are the exact 2 I have models of. Just need to buy a load of engineers wagons now!
  9. My DRS Limited Edition 68 001 arrived today. Despite the somewhat inferior wrapping it arrived intact. Nameplates are straight, no glue smudges and valance securely fitted. No lose or broken bits and the certificate (66/350 - if only it had been 68/350!) in the box. Livery fault aside I'm delighted with it. It can top & tail with my Scotrail version. I'll just need to troll Fickr to see if such a combination was ever prototypical
  10. Went to my local Toy & Train fair at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight this morning. Surprised to see in amongst all the tat, was a trader with a range of new Dapol locos & rolling stock, all at keen prices. He had a Chiltern 68 there for £125 which I thought very reasonable. Not surprisingly, it soon sold.
  11. £150 for Hornby's 'Rare' Greyfriars Bobby !!! Bought one recently myself for £29. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Scotrail-Greyfriars-Bobby-R-886-CL-47-Diesel-Locomotive-RARE-OO-guage-/262867180393?hash=item3d341adb69:g:svIAAOSwr~lYry8U
  12. Item closed this evening and I was the winner Before I bid, I could see that there was only 1 other bidder, with it still sitting at it's opening price of £60, but they had made three bids. In other words, upping their maximum bid price. I was therefore expecting the final price to be quite high as I was clearly up against someone who badly wanted it. I was surprised therefore to win at just £64.50. On reviewing the bids after, my competitor had made an opening bid at the list price of £60. An hour later they thought they better increase this, which they did by a whole £2. Then 10 minutes later, they must have thought that's not enough and they raised their stake by a whole 50 pence!
  13. Their silence/head in the sand approach is somewhat bizarre. I made comment on their digest last week having seen their reply to someone who dared to raise the QC issues. Their approach seems to be a general, hey, they're selling like hot-cakes so we don't care. To be fair to them, the models ARE selling, despite the noted issues, so why should they worry!. Will be interesting to see what the reviews are like in the various magazines. The model truly is excellent, and I'm delighted with mine, but paint finish, nameplates, glue marks and wiring issues are in my view, too significant to be glossed over.
  14. And this with a model where the prototype is still in production. You can imagin the furore with the model makers in a 100 years time when some manufacturer proposes producing a Class 68. Much akin to the noise that accompanies todays new models of pre-war steam locos etc
  15. A seller in Inverness - so should know better. 37 413 Loch Eil being advertised as Lock Eli http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ViTrains-V2035-Class-37-BR-Large-Logo-37413-Lock-Eli-Outward-Bound-/292027730299?hash=item43fe35897b:g:ARwAAOSwTuJYogdJ Wrong in both the title and the description, so can't even claim a typo. Also my other pet hate, why oh why do people use out of focus blurred photos when they're trying to sell something
  16. I've bought a lot of diecast models etc from him at really good discounted prices, but that is obscene. A £100 more than what they've been on sale with other traders this week.
  17. I bought the ViTrains Northern Belle twin pack from them, and seem to recall it came the next day, or certainly within 48 hours. I also recall it didn't have any bubble wrap or packaging but just brown paper wrapped around the loco box. Thanfully the ViTrains box itself had a really good foam inlay. Ordered 68 001 on Tuesday night along with a DRS polo shirt. Not received them yet though.
  18. I've been able to have my first proper play with Valiant today. It is totally stunning and is by far and away the best model in my collection. It runs superb and everything abouth this model is just streets ahead of anything I've experienced before model wise. Mike Modelling Scottish Region 1980-1995 +1 from 2017
  19. THIS. My Dad was an electrician and was colour blind. Used to tell some great stories of when he would be re-wiring a customers house, and would ask the woman, excuse me, is this wire red?. Poor folk would be mortified!
  20. I got Scotrail (well, what would you expect!) 68 007 Valiant. Totally stunning but I only had a 5 minute play before packing it safely out of sight. Got the Grandson staying this weekend so it's the old Lima class 26's on my layout until Sunday. Don't mind too much if they get damaged!
  21. Their weekly mailing list today said they've only received part of their order, and were hoping for the rest either later today or Monday. They just listed the Chiltern one as being available on their mailing list.
  22. It's here!!!. 68 007 Valiant has just arrived. Opened the box with some trepidation, but needn't have worried, as it's a true Mary Poppins "practically perfect in every way". Livery design and application surpasses any of my other models, all those warning flashes and stickers. Buffer beam detailling is tremendous. Number plates perfectly level and no sign of any glue marks Just one big gripe. I was hoping 68 001 from the DRS Shop would also arrive today but no such luck!
  23. I work in Crewe three days a week, Mon-Wed. The three days that Haslington Models are shut At least I can call into Trident Trains on my way home if I can skip out the office early Model looks good. I'm staring out the window every 2 minutes awaiting the postie.
  24. The old addage: It's Volts that jolts, Mils that kills
