  1. Actually, these volume sellers 'are' automated. When an item is out of stock, it resets the sale price from say £1.99 to something extreme such as £1,234.56. When they have the items back in stock, the price reverts to the original selling price £1.99. This is far easier for them to control ad manage, than having to delist/relist items constantly. It's pretty common across eBay, but pretty frustrating when you search and find an item, only to see a ridiculous 'price' on it.
  2. A few of the liveries for the modern day stuff - Merl Evans / Evening Star etc - are of interest but not enough to have me buy new. These are the sort of things I would either relivery myself or pick up 2nd hand. With all the rumours that 2 manufacturers were doing an 86 & as we now know a Hornby 87, I was really hoping for a Class 86 announcement. Really disappointed with that and also that the Class 90 has not moved on at all.
  3. Yup. October 1988 and a staff open day to 'celebrate' the conversion of the depot from locos to the new sprinter fleet. Some more pics on my Flickr page, scanned from the original prints. Quality is a bit iffy as I was - still am - just a point & shoot snapper who knows nowt about exposure settings pr composition etc. https://flic.kr/s/aHskm84V4w
  4. Any Scottish Routes are fine by me but would like to see a Glasgow Central to Stranraer version. Would really like to see the original Provincial Super Sprinter livery, with the 'running man' sprinter logo.
  5. Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Bargain Hunters thread or here. Of no interest to me (It's my favourite kettle but they ruined it by putting that streamlining back on) this listing has mis-spelled Hornby, so is not likely to get any views. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/horby-train-/322375684420?hash=item4b0f169144:g:OykAAOSwo4pYLI7R The chap has low feedback and the very basic title/description does make me wonder if its either a scam fake add or someone fencing stolen goods, who doesn't know what he's actually selling and how to list its features. Looking at his feedback though, the majority is for Hornby models. Searching for mis-spellings is often a good way of picking up a bargain on eBay, as this could be with other sellers selling this NRM exclusive for £150 or more. I take no responsibility if you bid and it does turn out to be a scam. Buyer Beware, E&OE, Caveat Emptor, Do your own research etc
  6. I'm currently looking for ScotRail 47/7's and have just purchased the Heljan 47715 Haymarket, a depot where I used to be based. Spotted this Bachmann repaint. Nothing too major other than taking the original RES liveried model and painting it back into the former Scotrail livery it carried. However, the error occurs in retaining the Waverley nameplate. As while 47 701 in RES livery was indeed named Waverley, this only happened in 1991 with the RES livery. When 47 701 was in its ScotRail livery, it carried the name Saint Andrew, and the Waverley nameplate was allocated to 47 708. Guess it's easy enough to remove plates and source/fit the correct ones but just sad to see someone has gone to the trouble of carefully repainting a loco, and then fitting the wrong nameplate to it! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-Class-47-701-Waverley-Scotrail-conversion-Locomotive-/351944757919?hash=item51f18ad29f:g:7k4AAOSwA3dYVumv
  7. Tonights programme just as enjoyable. Never thought I could/would be enthralled by a programme about a Kenwood food mixer Nice name check for Sir Kenneth Grange and the HST 125 too.
  8. Delighted with 60 087 Clic Sargent in Colas livery, which will go on the top of my OTA log train. Pic shows the loco at Wrexham on the Kronospan twigs. Might also go for the 87 in blue, other than that, I'm done. Just as well really with the 8 deposits/crowd funders I'm already committed to.
  9. Hattons email says 13th February for y Valiant pre-order.
  10. What happened to my passengers with flickering iPhones
  11. If there'll be an option for fitted passengers, like the 143/144 had, then individual illumination of their iPhones and Tablets would be good. I may have hit the Xmas eggnog a bit too hard
  12. Wow. Just discovered this thread this morning. I'm up to page 11 so far Great seeing the layout develop from the initial baseboard build. I'm about to embark on something similar, a 2 level uppper / lower deck. The track plan is just very vague in my head, as I'll be designing / building it as I go along. Unconventional, but I just can't 'see' things on paper so prefer to try it all out in-situ so to speak.
  13. Yup, saw the wagons today and pretty smart they looked. Being modern image I just have no use for them but I do keep swithering when I see these 'local' private owner wagons, such as those made by Dapol for the West Wales Wagon Works.
  14. As I work in Crewe and drive home to North Wales via Nantwich, then this shop is great for me but unfortunately with me working office hours, I don't often get the chance to visit. However, I wanted to pick up the new Bachmann Sealink coach that has just been released so left work early to call in on my way home this evening. An expensive - but worthwhile visit. There were a load of discontinued Gaugemaster modelling tools at upto half price so it would have been rude not too Having bought these and left the shop, I happened to spy the glass display case outside with some 2nd hand locos. There were 4 Bachmann Class 20's very reasonably priced and far cheaper than what they sell for on eBay. I say 'were', as they aren't there anymore, but now reside on my layout
  15. Thanks for the update. Can't wait to get the 2 I've ordered and then to expand the fleet with the future planned liveries.
  16. A full range of Class 26's & 27's with TOPS numbering would suit me fine
  17. Visited yesterday to grab some peco items for this weekends task. Hadn't been in the shop for a year or so and it has changed a bit. The section in front of you at the top of the stairs, that used to be all model railways, including a centre display rack, is now all model aircraft kits etc and diecast buses and the centre racking has gone. Still a fair bit of model railways by the till area, but a mere fraction of what it used to be. I assume they give prominence to what sells most for them. Guessing model kits etc have more of a footfall purchase than model railways. My own buying habits probably back that up, as despite this being my local model shop, I've not been there in a year, picking up most things either online or at shows. It was only because I need some things in a hurry that I popped in yesterday.
  18. Where there's a will, there's a way! Now then, who's going to be first to fit a sound chip ....
  19. Humph. And I splashed out £100 in notes at Warley. Should of waited and paid by card!. Still, the flip side is not having to find as much to pay off the balance
  20. Will be at Prestatyn show tomorrow but may have to get out my scratcher to be there first thing, so that I can get back to Mold for 2pm where this is showing at Theatr Clwyd: https://www.theatrclwyd.com/en/whats-on/britain-film-railways/
  21. Paid a deposit at Warley for the 2 Saltire variants. Can't wait for these and to also add the planned Strathclyde Orange at a later date. Happy St Andrew's Day everyone from a rather happy Scottish-Exile
