  1. Will be at the show and hopefully secure one of these. From the pic though, the livery is wrong. 708 was infamous for being one of the first to appear in the ScotRail livery, but they had a gap between Scot & Rail, which as far as I recall, was never corrected. Not my pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/52g_sunderland/16254006330/in/photolist-9cXMgk-9N3JPx-dRYrBW-9EzQd6-QMMQSi-qSwTDh-fKMKht-9DmEx6-UnDzvp-qLj2Ns-pE1c4E-g7KPVm-9siQvQ-dKu9gu-9dzzSV-iKBz6b-dkHsz6-CFWkK4-asyAi4-n78Do4-9DmF7g-cH9HbJ-JX2A3L-QMMQHa-dTMoPo-obpRTy-eSC1dR-CsdQYb-dTG6ne-h5Qg9H-dVwdWF-dJDBuh-9sfRni-dRhQUu-kUmUet-cpKkVd-qGFepi-9fr1mz-9cdnik-jfpdEw-982ZCk-9fMV4w-dT3A8s-cZ6v2L-e73eEm-fxUrS5-dT3AcJ-B5ZFbu-dHUKtH-Egum7L Edit: Further searches show that it was subsequently corrected. The other mistake we made (I was based at Haymarket depot) was that on one side only, the BR logo appeared after the Scotrail legend, when it should have been before Again, not my pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wilster200/14347967485/in/photolist-aVV7dt-dNEPYN-8HkAdq-eHxbti-pakUoq-dNVQPF-bSC5sv-Cvz1x7-CsdQYb-hjXGxd-jaBq72-FPsiz-nRT5RK-pE1c4E-eHDejh-9EzQd6-aVV7kn-dKu9gu-CFWkK4-aVV7he-VmzcpY-bAQrTN-gYUPHt-9v2KQZ-gLAsiU-h5Qg9H-6PBaBS-VQc8Wd-9dzzSV-9DmEx6-6qxwYU-b4NbZx-9N3JPx-9fMV4w-UnDzvp-Y3Y9kj-6Px3ra-qLj2Ns-dkHsz6-anF2fS-g7KPVm-B5ZFbu-VJkEK3-6CnTz8-kdGnhQ-SktU1u-CUohfG-StQEoQ-9mMKqx-6qobHy
  2. That's my thinking as well. I model Scotrail in the early 80's, all blue 26's & 27's. But I have very fond memories of Duchess of Hamilton coming to Ayr in October 83 for the depot open day. So, it's just been duly ordered
  3. Nurse, Nurse! . I'm coming down with something. Locomotions new release of Duchess of Hamilton has just been orderd. Very fond memories of seeing that with my Dad at Ayr Depot Open Day in 1983
  4. When you've finished respraying but forgot to order transfers from Fox (Glasgow Central to Stranraer, passing Ayr Townhead, Feb '86)
  5. Went across the new crossing last week for the first time, as I had blagged myself on a visit of the new Alstom factory at Widnes. It's a stunning bridge and very distinctive styling. Must admit, I've got a bit of a thing for bridges, both road and rail. Paid my toll online that night. There are options to buy a card up front to save some money, but to be honest, despite being on my doorstep I rarely had need to go across the old Runcorn crossing and this new bridge won't be any different. The few times I go to Liverpool I use the Queensway tunnel. Anyway, as it's a railway forum, a few gratuitous photos from the Alstom visit
  6. I don't model the steam era and being honest, have little or no interest in steam trains at all. My dad however was an 'LMS Man' when it came to railway modelling and an old Wrenn City of London is etched in all my memories of him from my childhood. As such, I started reading this thread last night and had a mini pang of regret that such a beautiful looking model (SWS) is sold out on release, as I would have loved to have one sitting in my display cabinet in memory of my Dad. Roll on this morning and with a few hours to kill I took myself down to Wrexham for the local swapmeet and model railway show. Whereupon the trader 'Along Classic Lines' who I've happily bought from at many a show, had 2 Sir Williams and 3 Atholls on display. So having decided that having just one steam loco would look decidedly out of place, I'm happy to report that I have one of each taking up residence in my display case. Just hoping this isn't the start of a slippery slope and my D & E fleet isn't about to become redundant
  7. Will see if I can get down tomorrow. A busman's holiday as I work in Crewe during the week.
  8. 46100 Royal Scot on its return to mainline steam, after 50 years. Chester 06 Feb 2016
  9. Track-Shack certainly seem to get glowing reviews for their mail order service. One for me to bear in mind next time I need to order something.
  10. Totally agree, I'd love to have a modern tooled 86 in all its guises. Although in the past 6 weeks I've picked up 5 of these Heljan models (for the aforementioned stupendously daft money). I'm happy with the Heljans and would curse a bit / a lot if Hornby were to announce an 86 at this years Warley. Would prefer to see some EMU's first but would welcome an 86 announcement say next year for a 2019-20 release.
  11. I've been having a McRat evening tonight, with my collection of these Heljan models now standing at 11 Class 26's & 4 Class 27's.
  12. Hattons have just emailed advising that the 121 in Arriva Trains Wales livery, is now scheduled to arrive in December.
  13. Press release today from GBRf. New wagons on the way that will hold 1/3 more. 26th October 2017 New hoppers will allow GB Railfreight to carry one-third more biomass. Following the signing of the rail haulage contract Lynemouth Power Limited, GB Railfreight (GBRf) has announced that it will be leasing 50 newly built, lidded biomass wagons from Nacco. These wagons will provide a more efficient service, with a payload of 70 tonnes instead of the current lidded hopper wagon’s capacity of 53 tonnes. The new wagons will run in two sets of 24 wagons, delivering 1,680 tonnes of biomass per train, are auto-loading and discharging, and will be delivered at the end of November 2017 and in January 2018. GBRf previously demonstrated its reliability along this route whilst running coal services to Lynemouth when it was owned by RWEST. The last coal train into the station was April 2015. John Smith, Managing Director of GBRf, said: "We are delighted to be able to make this investment following the start of our partnership with Lynemouth earlier this year. It demonstrates GBRf’s commitment to providing the best levels of customer service and the company’s desire to ensure the most efficient fleet of rolling stock is available. This investment will also enable GBRf to carry more biomass to Lynemouth, reducing its carbon footprint and the emissions of the whole of the UK as well. This partnership is just one way in which GBRf, and the whole rail freight sector, is contributing to the UK hitting its climate change commitments.” ENDS
  14. If I do spot any of me in my 70's style brown corduroy flared trousers, I'll be paying YOU to destroy the negatives !
  15. Just me?, or does anyone else study all these old platform shots from the 70's & 80's thinking that maybe, just maybe, they'll spot themselves!
  16. I've longed for 90 024 in Malcolm livery since the prototye was first announced (post #369). I agree it is more likely to be a Retailer commission than a standard stock livery. One of the real issues will be obtaining the relevant permissions, of both DB Cargo, The Malcolm Group and possibly even the photographer Colin Prior as well. With regards to Colin Prior, hopefully this will be assured. Corgi have a 1:50 set of trucks which go for £500 (discounted) a pop!. The image on the Class 90 is of Ben Mo`r Coigach and readily available in a number of prints. I wonder therforefore if one of the respray companies, could mockup the 90 by putting the image onto a waterslide type transfer? https://colinprior.co.uk/shop/ben-more-and-stac-pollaidh/ Not my picture:
  17. Thanks for that. I was just 1 month into my BR YTS scheme and did the trip with my Dad and other members of the Ayr Model Railway Group, hence why we boarded at Kilmarnock. It was my first and so far only trip over the S&C. I really must do something about that.
  18. Just back from the show, my first visit to the Warrington exhibition with it coming so quick after Wigan. A really good show with a good mix of exhibits. For once, rather than spend all my time hunting out bargains at the various trade stands, this time I primarily went to view the layouts. It was good to take a leisurely view of each layout in turn, especially more so in layouts of N gauge, 009 or Millers Crossing, an American HO layout that normally I don't bother with at larger exhibitions. Will be adding this show to my calendar of shows to visit each year. Easy to get to, free parking at the door and just 40 minutes away. Perfect.
  19. 40 086 on an SRPS Railtour "The Whistler Special" from Kilmarnock down over the Settle & Carlisle on 06/10/84. This is where the loco ran round for the return trip. Can anyone enlighten me as to the exact location?
  20. Fab!. Expect a phone call from yours truly tomorrow
  21. Given that we are all in the UK, and allegedly "Better Together", it's a bit of a mockery that in Scotland, all bridges (Skye / new Forth Crossing) are Free, in Wales they are reducing the cost of the Severn Crossing come January (something to do with being VAT exempt, so 20% cheaper) and yet in England, they still persist with toll charges. Motorists are being penalised by postcode as to where they live or the routes they regularly travel. We shouldn't complain though, because if they ever went for a level playing field, no doubt they would have us all paying.
  22. Would have been such an everyday occurrence that no one gives it a glance. Cracking photo.
  23. It's for a good cause and I'm delighted for them, but this surely takes the biscuit ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-the-Class-37-enthusiast-that-has-everything-37219-Kit-Kat-Supporting-37003-/162691168635?hash=item25e126397b:g:7M4AAOSwBiVZzm0a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-the-Class-37-enthusiast-that-has-everything-37003-Kit-Kat-Supporting-37003-/152722379159?hash=item238ef69197:g:8BcAAOSwp0NZzmxT
