  1. Take it easy Andy - any sort of pain is a sign of overdoing things, even if it’s not cardiac related
  2. Someone gave me the same box of ‘Classic Ales’ for Christmas!

    MRJ 262

I have fond memories of Brian Monaghan and his helicopter....
  4. Does the design of the mirrors create some downforce, however small?
  5. Public humiliation? - far too soft: public disembowelling might be considered lenient.....
  6. None of the layouts I have built in the past have had a backscene, so I have a few questions: Background: I am building a branch line terminus (in 00), 10’ x 8’ in an L shape on 2’ deep Boards. The layout will be operated from a sitting position using the ‘Kirby’ uncoupling method. My questions are: 1. Preferred backscene height? 2. Preferred thickness? 3. Preferred fixing method? I would prefer the backscene to be easily removable (and replaced) for maintenance (the baseboards have been built to be easily separated and removed- this will not be exhibited but I am mindful of the need for maintenance and would like to allow for the layout to be easily moved if necessary. One other thought is to add a ‘proscenium’ (is that the right word? !!) like exhibition layouts, so that I can have a ‘roof’ and either curtains or drop down flaps at the front to keep light and dust out
  7. I too followed this from the start and also got the impression that everyone else was outside my area (West Midlands). It would have been no trouble to knock together a few baseboards with basic scenery and get together to prove the concept (I know of at least one possible venue - in a very good pub with large parking facilities!!!). I have had an interest in what I call ‘system ‘ layouts- ie ones where trains run from station A to B through to C, branches off to D, E, F etc. The sort of thing seen in old modelling magazines, and probably the preserve of those living in big old vicarages! - the sort of thing Cyril Freezer used to touch on in some of his more ambitious schemes.Let’s face it, anyone could build an interconnecting board, a small station (branch?) etc with not much effort, even if the scenery is sparse, just to prove the concept. I seem to recall Andy Y promised some support, but then seems to have got busy at the crucial time then things petered out..., If anyone in the West Midlands fancies having another go (or from further away if you are prepared to travel (the venue I’m thinking of has a reasonable B&B attached!) I’m willing to have a go.....
  8. Impressive bit of thinking there Andy - who needs all those fancy catches/ bolts/ dowels etc: well done!
  9. Wow! How have I missed this thread before? Looking forward to more
  10. Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s our local Toys R Us used to have a large part of an aisle filled with glass cabinets displaying Scalextric cars, along with boxes of sets filling shelves, not sure about Hornby railway models as I was out of the hobby at this point, but I seem to remember shelves full of train sets.
  11. What a shock! This is very sad news. Rest in Peace John.

    Little Muddle

That grass looks fantastic- the weather has obviously been good this summer!
  13. This morning I have been mostly nodding at my Dapol GWR Railcar - had to test it, as you do - arrived yesterday from Sheffield at a bargain price. I will adjourn to the sleeping quarters shortly though to contemplate the finite existence of the 5 pints of Batham’s finest bitter that I have also just tested......
  14. And then run to the nearest psychiatric facility?
  15. That’s wrong. It only takes one .... but it then takes another 14 to write a paper on ‘dealing with darkness’.......
  16. Thanks for that - just purchased my grandsons birthday present!!
  17. That wouldn’t work- surely DCC only requires two wires......
  18. Made my first order from Track Shack (based on posts on here) at around 1am yesterday (don’t ask - it was a quiet night shift!!) - and it was here for lunchtime today. I was in no rush, but service like this can’t be faulted!
  19. I agree with ‘claw-tun’. He is/ was a distant cousin of mine. There was a school here in Dudley (closed, but the very ornate building survives) named after him. His former house, Priory Hall, is now the local Register Office, situated in the grounds of the former Dudley Priory.
