From what I understand reading between the lines, ATW were trying to run a service with one hand tied behind their backs. I don't suppose it helped that gubbermint withdrew the finances for the Valleys and west of Cardiff electrification.

  8. East Lancashire Railway attacked by vandals http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-40742336 Another one? Really cannot see the attraction is such a thoughtless and destructive act. Why preserved railways?

Too many young people have nothing to do, not welcome at home, nowhere else to go and the feeling that society has forgotten them. The only way to get attention is to kill someone, blow themselves up or vandalise historic artefacts.

  9. Friday before Christmas and TOCs are playing their annual game of how many people can we fit in a unit. TPE are winning, closely followed by Virgin. And I’ve got the best seats, and by a seat, I mean a vestibule end.

Friday before Christmas is always especially bad, Virgin had only called off todays strike yesterday but some services are still cancelled and many booked with TPE because at the time, they couldn’t with VT.

I found my way to Marylebone one day, was probably in my pre teens. An exhibition train was in. I rushed over with my notepad and some geezer grabbed it and started writing in it. I grabbed it back with an OI!. It was Booby something footballer apparently. I just wanted to see the coaches.
