Brian's 7mm Diesel Workbench, Belated up-date!
meld replied to brian daniels's topic in Kitbuilding & Scratchbuilding
Hi Brian. Fabulous work on the TC, many many happy memories of working Waterloo - Weymouth and Waterloo - Salisbury early in my career. Just a point of note, have you realised that you have currently mounted the dual high level air pipe operating cock in the 'Open' position ? Whilst the star valve in the brake pipe will be forced closed the main reservoir will be venting to the atmosphere! Hope this helps .. Mike -
Hi Paul, I think these were used at Victoria during its reconstruction on the Central side all those years back. Mike

Why does the "new wagon" have to go with the all of the new releases? Anyway .. Time will tell and I'm sure there will be many, many, many supertankers worth of froth as well as silly, pointless arguments and people who are allegedly "in the know" who just upset people with silly mind games between now and then .. I however can wait for the Dapol announcement as and when it comes, in the meantime I'll get on with some modelling ( I know, I know. I'm a radical misfit here ). MC

Met Cam posted how to fix the PCB for the cab lights to be switchable via DCC. Whilst I find this admirable and thank him for his work why should we be doing this sort of thing to a brand new model? Dapol seemed to have taken a massive retrograde step with the PCB in this brand new release and I really feel that the very least they should be saying that they are going to correct the PCB and either accept models returned for FOC replacement of the PCB or for those who feel confident enough dispatch replacement PCB's to customers for them to replace themselves. TBPH, that's two pretty basic faults with the PCB now and it's time for them to stop messing about and admit the error and offer the replacement to their customers. My thoughts alone written down, but not just my thinking I suspect. MC

You seem to be confusing spare parts ( parts that are manufactured for re-sale in their own entity ) with replacement parts ( parts that may available from the producer to replace damaged or missing parts ). Semantics some may say, but "Hey ho!" Various people in this place have expressed an interest for the purchase of "spare parts", such as the Sprung Buffers. Phil basically has said "no" to spare parts at the moment and for some time in the near future ( no possible timescale given or suggested ) in this sense. However .................... If you receive a model and it's been damaged in transit then I'm sure that it would be replaced once returned ( so the Phil could work out how it was damaged in the first place ). I did receive a Vi-Trains limited Ed from RE that was missing a detail sprue, I contacted Phil and he had a replacement he could send as it was missing originally. If you damage it yourself, ..... well, lets put it this way from my own experience with a different supplier .. I have a Heljan 47 that I dropped and fractured the cab corners and roof... I have had to repair it the best I could, as the body in that livery was never available as a replacement. I would expect the same situation might possibly occur after that particular model has sold out. All I can say is that if you are concerned that you may damage your model yourself after receiving it in good condition, or feel that you need more clarification on the "Spares" availability would be to Phone SLW ( Number is 01780 470086 ) and enquire what you could do and where you would stand with regards to all or any replacement parts after your accident, probably before you buy. Phil Did say to me during a phone call that spares are available, the buffers for instance are £160.00, 'cause they come with a loco attached! He did also say 'never say Never, but that Never could well be a looooooong time'. I expect that getting into the "spare part" game for detailing other projects this early into the life of a new company would just be a distraction for both him and Jamie, whilst they are busy working on the next releases. Ah! But once you violently lowered the offending juice rail they ran very well I thought !! MC

From what happened on Sunday you don't even have to be at an exhibition with the layout to gain a straight red card .... poor old 'weatherman' MC

Along with new roof and new sides to allow for the New bodyside grilles, Radiators, Repositioned roof fans, Cab roof dome marker light etc ... So actually two differing NEW Body models required for the RVEL pair and the GBRf 12 to become model reality .... Never say Never, but probably a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way off. Mike

Hiya Big Jim. I have found model strip will take off the 'Hobbiest' applied paint and certain Tampo printed parts of the original livery application ( as well ass anything applied with "Super Glue"! ). I always use Precision Paint Stripper to remove all the Paint to start again especially if the base livery is going to be lighter or lots of detail will be added before the repaint. HTH. Mike

After looking at the Photo above I would say that it Does have a Grab ( commode ) Handle on the Plain door of the set of double doors, Although set higher above the door handle in this case. Sorry to add to the confussion. . Also there is a Picture in " Slam Doors On The Southern" Page 53 that shows the other side of an unRe-Furb'd BEP Buffet and it too definately has a Grab Handle on the plain door of the pair. The 'Cylinder' Is, IIRC, actually an MG ( Motor/Generator) Set. The preserved BEP Buffet ( on the East Kent Rly ) is from a Re-Furb'd set and apart from the red 'BUFFET' stripe looks nothing like the originals .......... Mike

Hi All. I have here what I belive to be a set of A1/Puffin Products etches for a refurb'd 4 BEP. This was, IIRC, a Nigel Burkin - in association with A1 Howes product and was only run once. Does anyone have a set of instructions that I could have a copy of please? TIA Mike

Hi Ian, I was just looking at the posted CAD's at the begining of the thread which currently show a solid ladder set, and I was just thinking that if it was left a solid ladder, anyone with 'tight' radius will possibly find difficulty getting the bogies to turn enough without some sort of 'homebrew' modification or having to leave them off. I was not aware of the split step on the EU1 prototype, until your pic that is, and I would suggest that BOTH versions, original and revised, are added to the frets, which will simply allow the possibility of the Modifcation your mention to be covered, give the maximum sales potential, a pontetial 'pat on the back' for thoughtfulness in reviews and also head off the whingers when it won't go around someones curves on their layout and the loudly broadcast it to the world! I'm sure Pete will add both step versions to the fret, but just thought it was worth the question anyway, . ATB Mike

Hi Pete ( & Ian, ). Will the solebar mounted access ladders come only as shown, or will there be a 'two part' version, to allow it go negotiate Std 'RTR' radius curvatures as well? TIA Mike
