  1. Are you thinking of upgrading your class 25 to modern standards, have a look at the Black Beetle Range. These are are pretty good, but I have heard of haulage problems on gradients. I'm thinking of using these on my large range of planned DMU & EMU builds. Some people like to use the current Hornby motors as well, they are pretty good, and I haven't had any problems with them. If you don't want to motorise your 'Ethel' then I think just go with the Bachmann wheels. EDIT: Also, if you don't want to motorise your model I wouldn't recommend the Hornby wheels. I've had problems with a Hornby Railroad Gresley Teak Brake Coach and also my Hornby Mk1 Tailisman set. Perhaps it's just Hornby Railroad's poor quality. Either way I really should replace them wheels one day...
  2. I'm not sure if this may help, but have a look at Bachmann's range of wheels. And what diameter are you looking at? This will help you get the right size wheels and look at the different types (eg. Spoked, 3 hole, etc.) so you can give it. prototypical appearance. You will also need to look at the gear sizing.
  3. Oops.. Must be going blind already... Or I'm just forgetful!
  4. I've tried buying kits from DC kits before. I wanted a class 504 and a 128 (LMR), but apparently they didn't have them. I asked if they have any others, and they simply replied 'no'. I don't think they would take any orders if they're making replies like that. EDIT: An interesting thing I found on Railcar.co.uk was that three ex GWR coaches were converted for the use as DMU trailers for working with class 117's. The conversion involved changing around the end buffer beam equipment to be compatible with DMU vehicles. These were converted in the very early 1950's (I think 1951) and were withdrawn in 1967. None were preserved.
  5. They seem really expensive too... And I would like to see how this turns out.
  6. Very nice, very interesting... Good to see the thread has gone to a good start.
  7. The same mistake is in the N Gauge thread too.
  8. Hi all, As mentioned in the description, this is a continuation of the various Fictional Designs of the 'Mk2 BG Full Brake' thread. I will say it now, NO BOARDROOMIFICATION PLEASE! There is a separate thread titled 'Imaginary Boardrooms' so TRY KEEP THIS THREAD ON TRACK! Thank you, now you may post YOUR Fictional Designs HERE!
  9. Imaginary Locomotives was similar, although it turned into a boardroom. I even tried making a separate boardroom thread but that didn't stop them from continuing the 'Boardroomification'. I'll see if I can make a Fictional Units Thread though... NOT FICTIONAL BOARDROOMS! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/128805-fictional-units-not-boardrooms/
  10. I have a collection of Model Rail issues ranging from 2008 - 2011. Most of these were given to me by a friend (not sure if he had a subscription) after he no longer needed them. I have a couple of 1998 - 2001 issues as well. These are pretty resourceful, in my opinion more resourceful than some of the other magazines I own.
  11. From memory, the first locomotives were fitted with the smaller ones, and later on they were retrofitted with slightly longer versions, and in prior to nationalisation some were fitted with longer smoke deflectors, one famous example being 34006 Bude. I have a Hornby model of this train and it runs really well. One of favourite models I own...
  12. Announcement: I am cancelling this project due to many problems with the model, in particular the front windows. A replacement MAY BE made on Sketchup, but chances are that this won't happen.
  13. I may go for an app called Withrottle, which I can use on a Moblie Device. It costs around $14.99, and if you are uncertain there is a 'Lite' version that can be used as a trial.
  14. Yes, from what I know there are still avalible. You could look at motorbogies.com or http://steameramodels.com/default.htm I WAS going to use them although I may reconsider. Don't be drawn away from it though because from what I have read they are pretty good.
  15. Trends I see going to prices like these are brass built RTR or even kits. You could say I'm on the wrong side of the currency exchange, as for Australian Dollars is typically worth around 3/4 of a British Pound. (Don't bother correcting me, this is an approximation from my perspective!) And Australian Outline can REALLY rip you off. A normal OO Gauge Steam Locomotive would go into the $190 - $290 price range, whilst an AUSTRALIAN OUTLINE model would go the $600 dollar range, AND THAT IS FOR THE STUPID THING WITH NO DCC OR WEATHERING! Weathering is plus $25, and DCC is an additional $100, both of these add on prices are reasonable, BUT $600 FOR ONE BLOODY LOCOMOTIVE? AND APPARENTLY ITS A BRASS ONE! - I've read that particular model may actually have been been molded plastic on a metal chassis, WAY TO RIP EVERYONE OFF! In short - I need to know what I'm buying, and Australian Outline rips you off. If I was to buy the 6 Car APT, that would be around $1000 so I am kind of biased when it come to pricing of models.
  16. Try the NCE Powercab, I tried it on a friend's layout and once you learn the basics (which can be picked up quickly) you will be driving away absolutely free! Although he did say that they are pricey, so if you are on a tight budget (like me) either you will have to save up or look for something good but still cheaper.
  17. Question: From what you guys know, how is the quality of the sets? I don't mean to be judgemental, but that seems WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than your typical train pack. Not even Bachmann's Blue Pullman went to these staggering prices! I have only just discovered this thread (I've been looking at the 'N' scale thread for a while), and I wasn't at Warley myself, so I have only a vague idea of what this new APT will look like.
  18. That's interesting to know... Just a couple of questions: 1. Does this SIGNIFICANTLY affect the performance of Black Beetle installed units? 2. If so, what do you recommend as an alternative motor bogie? I am planning on using Black Beetles on my scratchbuilt DMU's, but if they aren't as good as they seem, then I need to make decisions NOW before I come around to motorising my currently non-existent DMU's.
  19. Using a Mk1 chassis would be MAY be good for such a conversion, although the sides are your biggest issue, especially if your DMU is a Class 101. Go to railcar.co.uk and look at the DMU Types page. Then click on Class (e.g. 101) and go to numbering. This will show you the diagrams for the carriages, although with some classes there are millions of the same type, obviously tailored for different batches and operations. There is also the fact that a lot of DMU's became 'Hybrid' sets, some of which had Class 101 centre cars added into them, despite NOT BEING CLASS 101's!
  20. I think it should be an easy fix, but I do agree on the note that quality control didn't notice this error. I thought they'd be better than that...
  21. This photo of preserved D832 Onslaught might be of help. It gives a good and clear side view of the bogies.
  22. The Re Worked Roster: Multiple Units: - I'll try my best to keep the class 123 in the roster, although I'm still finding an ideal way to build it. - Remaining in CrossCountry service. Although the 123 DMS will be replaced with a Class 124 DMC car to add variety. - A new Parcel Service will be needed to substitute for the 128 and two car 120/129 set. - I found a Class 108 in refurbished White/Blue: I'm considering this to become my post-1976 stopper service, although it's not guaranteed! Locomotives: - The 47 may be retained, although this is pending decision. - The 22 project has been cancelled due to model distortion. A replacement will need to be found. - A Shunter is still pending decision... There WILL be one, although the class is yet TO BE ANNOUNCED!
  23. I am now going to (nearly completely) rework the roster. See DMU's for Kingsborough for details.
  24. Would this be of any help? EDIT: Check out the Class 309 (Clacton) Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/groups/1683283@N22/pool/page1 - You'll find LOTS of interesting photos there, I even found one with a Wrap Around Yellow Cab! I found this too: https://www.flickr.com/photos/108923052@N02/24842357446/in/pool-1683283@N22/ I even made a song about it: PERFECT FOR WHAT'S COMING SOON! Dashing through the snow In a clunky old Clacton! On the rails we go, Clunking all the way. All the tracks are squealing, Annoying everyone. What fun it is to ride and sing, A Clacton song tonight, O! Jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way! Oh what fun it is to ride In a clunky old Clacton! Hope you like it! Note: Not supposed to be historically accurate on ride quality of the Clactons, nor their service lifespans!
  25. I've received word from DC Kits that the 504 is not in stock, so chances this won't be happening anytime soon. But if they ever do go back in stock I'll be sure to try buy one and make it Rail Blue with Small Yellow Warning Panels.
