  1. It is Ashington, here's another shot from Disused Stations website, with the nameboard in place. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/a/ashington/index10.shtml
  2. Four of those coaches came back from Sierra Leone, initially to Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, although I believe they only have two of them left in service.
  3. There has been some more maintenance on RMWeb done a couple of hours ago, some pictures are re-indexing, including recent ones. I would leave it a few days until the site catches up with itself, the pictures may reappear in due course.
  4. There's nowt wrong with that, they are my favourite EMD loco as well!
  5. These are the surviving ones I know of, based on the info in Don Thorpe's book Steam 31 Hamburg 32 Gothenburg 67 70 Diesel either 4001 Alnwick Castle or 4002 Arundel Castle (one was used as a source of spares for the other, not sure which number/name the revived one carries.) Not preserved, but still in active use is DH16 Sentinel 0-4-0, currently working for Ribble Rail at Preston hauling bitumen tanks. EDIT: See below, it's actually DH23 at Preston.
  6. Link HERE to the Bachmann Henrietta with a picture. (No connection to the retailer concerned, just a satisfied customer.)
  7. Hi Wayne 'Garratts 1' was in July 1976 covering converting 2 Triang 4-6-4T to a Garratt. 'Garratts 2' is in the September 1976 issue, but that is about 009 versions made from Minitrix 2-6-2T. Hope this helps
  8. I remember them on the Blackpool - Manchester run as well, they used to come through Bolton about 08:25. When I lived in Bolton & worked in Manchester, that was my train of choice. A Regional Railways 31 and half a dozen slightly shabby Mk1's, including some ex-Network South East examples. A proper train!
  9. Thank you for the clarification, happy to stand corrected. My interest is in the Manchester Ship Canal one. With the OP's request about the PLA, I had mis-remembered the Hornby one was PBA. Apologies for the confusion.
  10. I don't think they did. Port of London diesels were Yorkshire Engine 0-6-0s. A quick search of the net has not thrown up any Sentinels owned by the PLA. The Hornby one might be a flight of fancy.
  11. Mabex are part of Kingfisher Models Here is their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/KingfisherModelsMabex/ Last updated January 2022
  12. Some of the early kits may have had plastic wheels, but Dundas 009 kits have had metal wheels for a number of years. Peco haven't taken them over, Peco took over the Parkside standard gauge kits, Dundas are still trading from the previous address. https://dundasmodels.co.uk/
  13. No, it's a Rover SD1. The 800 radiator grill was visible between the headlights. If the Granada & SD1 are new in that picture, that puts them around 1977/78. The Rover 800 didn't appear until 1986.
  14. I don't have a spare copy of MTI 81, but I'm happy to photocopy an article for you if you want. Drop me a private message with your email address & which article you want, I'll see what I can sort out this evening. Paul
  15. MSC 77 is a Peckett W6 (1724/1927). The W4's MSC had were Nos 11 (654/1897) & 25 (907/1902).
  16. Ninelines kits are not available at the moment. I believe there are some interested parties trying to acquire the moulds, but nothing definite yet. The Colin Ashby open wagon kit is available from the 009 Society, but as far as I know, that is the only one.
  17. First one appears to be a Wickham trolley, the second one is a Ruston, possibly a 48DS?
  18. They were made by Wardie Master Models http://binnsroad.co.uk/railways/master/ There is also a thread from RMWeb where the links to Merit (now Peco) and Slaters are discussed.
  19. A dirty pale grey, or replace it with rusty corrugated iron. There is a thread here with plenty of inspiration, although some of the early photos from 2010 appear to be missing.
  20. My interpretation of the illustrations is that a lot of the diesels in 'Railroad plus' are the ex-Lima tooling, so you are getting a 'Lima' version and a 'new Hornby' version of the 31. Happy to be corrected if my intrepretation is wrong. Also happy to see the Lima tooling being used. While they may be less detailed than more modern offerings, they are good basic models in their own right.
  21. Dettol is my paint stripper of choice. Find a plastic tub with a lid big enough to contain your model. Put model in it and cover with Dettol. Come back about 6 hrs later, the old paint will have started to soften. Wipe as much of the old paint away as you can using paper towels. Repeat the bath in Dettol as many times as you need until you have got most of the paint off. The last bits of paintwill need to be removed by tooth picks or old toothbrushes, scrubbing the model under running water. The Dettol may discolour the plastic, but as you are going to repaint it, that doesn't really matter. I have attached a couple of pictures of a Triang crane runner, showing before and after Dettol.
  22. I agree with you on that score, it wouldn't be my breakfast cereal of choice. I find there is often a difference between advertising and reality
  23. Fascinating stuff. I have an interest in Lima British H0, and I know they put continental wagons into BR liveries, but I had no idea they put their British 00 stuff into European sets. Link here to their British H0 range http://www.limabritishho.co.uk/LBHO-Home.htm The J50 was supposed to be in H0, but by the time it came out, they had changed to 00 scale, and the rest is history.
