  1. Hi Simon, I tried to go for that one but swmbo does not like it....and given she is very supportive and indulges me with me hobbies I don't mind a compromise. Cheers, Ade.
  2. The builder has made a start today! The shuttering for the log cabin concrete base is down and the concrete is coming first thing Saturday morning. The cabin is now on order and should be here in 3 to 4 weeks. This is the manufactures photo of the cabin I have on order. It is 3m x 8m in size. I have ordered an extra couple of windows for the side. Thinking of going for a GWR inspired chocolate & cream paintwork. Cheers, Ade.
  3. I think one day I might do a loco. But lots of wagons and carriages to go at first. Forget to mention that I decided to upgrade to some Slaters buffers and added these today. Cheers, Ade.
  4. The Toad is almost built. Just the handrails to do now. I managed to solder the white metal parts ok. The roof is still just placed on for the photo. Given it a trail run and pleased to say it runs nice. Finally got a start date from the builder too! Cheers, Ade.
  5. Hi Martin, I was really nervous of trying a brass kit at first. Much credit goes to George for showing me how to solder and also to Jim McGowen. I explained to Jim that I was a novice at these but had been making plastic models since I was a kid and he said those skills were easily transfered to building a brass kit. I am really enjoying the build. Give it a try! Cheers, Ade.
  6. Went to the show on Saturday. Did not arrive until late due to work so did not have time to incorporate a train ride. As you all know it was a hot day. Several layouts seem to suffer from dirty track, most likely due to the dusty conditions in the shed. The were about 6 or 7 layouts. Naturally I spent most of my time looking at the O gauge stuff. The resident model of Ruddington Station was good. Cheers, Ade.
  7. Update on the brake van build. Solebars done, roof finished (but not fixed on yet), windows ledges added, sand gear and brakes fitted. Still awaiting the builder to do the concrete for the cabin which I am now a bit hacked off about.... Cheers, Ade.
  8. I think I have read using talcum powder sprinkled onto wet paint to give it some texture is one possible answer? Cheers, Ade.
  9. Looking good John. Nice work. Just doing my first brass 7mm kit at the moment. Cheers, Ade.
  10. I am a Ruddington lad born and bred so I am looking forwards to this weekends show. https://posts.gle/d9vLS I will be attending Saturday afternoon as I have to work util midday Cheers, Ade.
  11. Looks good already and I look am looking forwards to seeing it completed.
  12. Excellent weekend spent at SVR. Photos to come. Got home in time to do some more work on the brake van.
  13. Project X revealed! The usual rapid rate of progress. Looking forwards to see it in person next week. Cheers, Ade.
  14. Got the ends on now. The door joint could do with a bit more solder.
  15. Thanks Andy. Yes, honestly first time. Will be great to catch up and get to hear about "Project X" Cheers, Ade.
  16. Had a go at my first attempt at some soldering of the kit tonight. Inner doors put on and one end fixed in place. After a quick wash and brush up I am quite pleased with the results. Thanks again to George T for the lesson! Cheers, Ade.
  17. Not much to report since my last post. The lousy wet weather has set my builder back, so no start on the concrete base. But the brake van build is progressing. Got all the rivets embossed and all the folding done to the van sides, solebars etc. We are off to the Severn Valley Railway this coming weekend in the camper van. Cheers, Ade.
  18. Slightly confused as to when these and the A4's and the Teaks will hit the shops? In the flyer given out at GCR it says August 2020 for the A3's and Q4 2020 for the A4's and the Teaks. I suspect this is a typo? But Hattons website says August 2019 for the A3's and between June 2019 & July 2019 for the A4's (I suspect this will not be happening given we have not seen a fully decorated loco yet?) and between July 2019 & August 2019 for the Teaks? Cheers, Ade.
  19. To me, one of the star layouts was the vintage 00-9 narrow gauge layout "Llareggub" based on Dylan Thomas novel "Under Milk Wood" built by Dave Rowe. It was one of the first layouts as you entered the show on the left exhibited by the Llanfair & Welshpool railway. I remember this layout from being in Railway Modeller in the 1970's and I was realy pleased to see it is still around.
