Heljan’s skill set is definitely diesel, their steam hasn’t really set the world alight has it unfortunately. On the other hand Dapol seem fo excel at steam and their 08s aren’t half bad either.

To be honest I’m only looking at one more medium sized loco maybe a 31 or 37 then I’m done, but as prices increase it does build a barrier to the younger people who want to come into the hobby. We maybe should ask the question why Dapol can produce a loco (66) at half the price of a comparable Heljan offering l, considering both products use similar factories in China, and perhaps sail on rhe same ship to Europe. I’d rather see wagons that “don’t sell” and have “no call for” produced rather hugely expensive locos - although there are obvious gaps in modern traction which Heljan are well placed to fill, not to mention the untouched 2nd generation DMU fleets, which I suspect people in my age group (35-40) grew up with….Class 150 in O anyone ?

They also announced an increase in prices as well, so expect standard locos to tip the £700 with discount point! The first? £100+ wagon as well maybe…exciting times

Delighted to report my two 60s arrived from Rails of Sheffield in tip top condition, I was very anxious about opening a kit of parts but it looks like Rails got a good pallet which is a huge relief. I am however still waiting to test on DC power though.

Freightliner 66565 returns to the Mainline at Gear Junction (Newport, South Wales) leaving Park Junction after coming off rhe Machen Quarry branch with a Mendip contract train for Stoke Gifford (Bristol). 24/09/21.

Their getting 2 to 3 trains a week up there now which is great news, the rocks are being taken to a embankment resilience project in the Cardiff Valleys, recess at East Usk overnight then up there into a T3 tomorrow night.

Dapol have announced a rerun of the BR standard brake van for 2022 this time with the addition of roller bearing type.

Dpaol had a working sample of the 66 at the SVR show today, to be honest it looked very nice indeed and extremely heavy ! The very nice Dapol chap said it’ll have smoke generators as an option as well as sound etc - expected Q2 2022.

Just to update - I ordered with KGR yesterday phone, as others have said the website is currently off online. Model arrived 10am today as usual fantastic service !
