  1. Thanks Kevin. I must have the wrong magazine in my head, but thank you for looking. I appreciate it. My memory isn't nearly what it was , must be an age thing....:( Thanks again. Mark..
  2. I seem to recall an article in (I believe), Airfix Model Trains magazine, of a conversion of a GWR brake van into a Severn Tunnel variant with the enclosed veranda. Does anyone know which edition it would have been? It must have been 1980 or April 1981 at the latest....We left the UK on March 31 1981...If anyone knows and could let me know I would be very grateful and try and source a copy via e-bay or somewhere as my copy has been thrown out at some time over the years, or is hiding somewhere very clever. Thanks. Mark.
  3. Tim Hortons now have donut shops in the UK??....another excuse for me to return home!

Mrs Dreyfus lost a similar argument a couple of years ago...

  8. Is the UK rail industry in that bad of a state? I became a chef because I read a ladybird book, I think it was called "life on the railways" after seeing a chef cooking in a kitchen car. I loved trains and I loved cooking. What could have been better, combine both!! I would have loved to come home and done it! Mark. Edit: Missed last sentance..D'Oh!!
  9. Home By The Sea - Genesis. Oh crap.....giving away my age....
  10. Hi Dave, great pictures as always! In J3691 there is a brick structure in the lineside next to what I assume is a signal box, it's right where the 4th and 5th carriages are coupled. To me it looks like the base to a water tower, but I wondered if you knew what it was? Thanks. Mark.
  11. I still have a roll of Kodak Gold Ultra 400speed 36 exp and Supasnaps 100sp 24 exp in my desk drawer......sad I know. It's getting harder and harder to get accessories for the Olympus OM 10..I should have bought when I could.
  12. Do not buy a Ford made in Mexico.....:(

Quick rule of thumb, if they don't make a car in the UK I don't buy it. Bought a German car once, couldn't afford the repair costs so I scrapped it aged 10

It's a Fusion (the Mondeo in the UK) looks nice, awful build quality. And to think I traded in a Subaru Impreza for a 'sensible car'...what was I thinking.

  13. The Rover P5 for me please. Plus my first car, it would have been 40 this year... Edited for punctuation....
  14. The cows are probably jealous of the 'horns' on the diesel........ Running for cover.....
  15. A rather tired fireman at Bitton on the Avon Valley Railway. Around 1991 (I think).
  16. Great looking loco's, the weathering is fantastic. I especially like the 1F because, as you say, it ran on the Dursley branchline. One of these days I will get hold of a Bachmann 1F and have it renumbered.
  17. I'm not surprised on the CBC findings either. We flew with Air Transat last year from Toronto to Birmingham (a shame they've dropped that route now, it was really handy for me) and the seats were sticky and chewed gum stuck in the pocket! yuck. At least one of the flight attendants got a wet towel and wiped the seats down for us. Thankfully the flight back was better, but I wonder what nasties were lurking there!! Sorry, straying off topic here. Mark.
  18. No problem, I had to purge, there gets to a point when the shelves can't take any more....I'm glad someone got the joke
  19. I have around 200 magazines, mainly Railway Magazine and Railway Modeller, but there are also editions of Steam World, Rail, Hornby Magazine and other titles I'm sure. They cover approximately 1990 - 2015. If anyone is interested in them they can collect them. I'm located in Acton, Ontario (it might be worth the drive for someone LOL) which is between Georgetown and Guelph. GTA area, sort of. Ideally I would like to get rid of them all at once, but I'm flexible.
  20. I noticed this section of rail being used as a header in a church basement in Guelph, Ontario. I had to find some chalk to highlight the lettering, but it reads "Sheffield Toughened Steel 4mo 1879". I wouldn't be surprised if it has been there all that time as I think that was when the church was built.
