  1. Seasons in the sun. Terry Jacks.
  2. This has to be my favourite view in the world. Hopefully not another 20 years to see it again.
  3. Beautiful car, you must be very proud to own her.
  4. Watching Open All Hours...Do any shops like that still exist? Or is it another part of my youth gone?

  5. Very nicely done. The weathering is nice and subtle, you've captured the look of a working locomotive very well. I got to see Evening Star herself at the NRM last year albeit all pristine. Mark.
  6. I think Hornby produced a MK 1 restaurant car and a 12 wheel dining car (ex-Dapol). Possibly others, I'm sorry I don't know what diagram numbers they would have been. Mark.
  7. WTF I've lost the tender to my partners late fathers Marx 3 rail loco, it looks naked on the shelf without it. It's in the apartment somewhere, she'll be home soon.....

I don't see the problem. If someone is prepared to bid more than you does it matter if it's in the last few seconds or the previous day? If you want it badly enough, be prepared to bid more. If someone outbids you at any stage, fair enough, that's their privilege. If you don't wim an auction, you didn't want it as much as someone else, move on.

  8. Not quite sure how , but I made it to 50!

been there and done it now a year later and all still seems the same still surrounded by f**kwits and even more of them failing to run the country.

  9. Not quite sure how , but I made it to 50!

  10. I will keep an eye out for some, but British outline is pretty thin at a lot of the shows here. There is the Great British Train Show, but it's only every two years and was held earlier this year! It's a fantastic show where I always spend way too much money!! There are a few specialist dealers though, I should try emailing them to see if any of them keep second hand stock. In answer to your earlier question, the length of the Emily body is 106.3mm. Mark.
  11. Thanks for the additional comments and thoughts; hayfield; I'll try replacing the handrails and door handles as you suggest, and as you say this is a learning curve. If it all goes wrong I can start again with another project. Compound2632; I'm not sure I could cut up Tri-ang Clerestory coaches.....they're so much part of my childhood...LOL I will get the measurements for you. Guy; Thanks for the suggestions and links, the stuff from Shawplan looks amazing! Ravenser; The brown surrounds are part of the glazing, I painted them brown thinking they were frames. I will try changing the door window sizes to see how it looks. Thanks again for the input. Mark
  12. Thank you both for the suggestions. Given the errors in the basic design I probably won't go too much further with it, I would still like to fiddle with it a bit more to make it at least passable, but it might end up on a scrap road. It looks ok from a distance but I don't think it will ever stand more than a cursory glance. I should look to see if anyone produces a kit that no doubt be more accurate. A much better use of my time and energy. Thanks again. Mark.
  13. In an attempt to produce something like this, I took a Bachmann Thomas coach, (Emily, I think) and made a new roof, repainted the coach, painted window 'frames' and did a little weathering. I ended up going from this: to this: It's by no means perfect, the photo is rather cruel in this close up, any tips to improve it further would be appreciated. I would really like to do something about the door handles, hinges etc. I have a second coach to convert to a brake as well as a Henrietta to do something Titfield like with but I would like get the first one up to something presentable first. By the way, if you're wondering why I chose these to convert? first they were quite cheap at the time, and second British outline(ish) is tough to find on this side of the pond without going to shows or mail order. Thanks for any input. Mark. edited for mistakes made when typing in a hurry.....
  14. Beautiful model, one of the first kits I built, nowhere near as good as that though. I will have to show this to my girlfriend, her grandfather flew Wellingtons then went on to Lancasters with the RCAF in WW2.
  15. Laid off after 27 years in the company. What a kick in the teeth.

How sad. I don't know the circumstances but sometimes though, these things prove to be for the best.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'm tempted to return to the UK to carry on in the same job, but my GF isn't keen on it and we couldn't bring the dog. Oh well The Archer's is on soon LOL.

  16. That made me laugh so much, it reminded me of a birthday card I got a few years ago.....
  17. Thank you DaveF for this thread, long may it continue....It's the first place I look every visit, which is just about every day. I'm afraid I don't comment often as I don't remember much about the UK railway scene being only 13 when when we left for Canada. Thanks again. Mark.
  18. I'm looking forwards to it. I think I'll go Saturday, as it looks as if it's going to be a rainy day......now it's finally stopped snowing! Edit: for clarification...
  19. David, Many thanks for the information, I think it would make an interesting model. Mark.
  20. In C7458 there looks like a green DMU(?) with a big grey door in the side of it in the background. Does anyone have an idea what this might be? It looks very well cared for, even having what looks like white wheel rims. Mark.
  21. Thanks for posting this Phil. I got a chance to visit Sharpness last summer, it doesn't look much like the film anymore. I spent a little while looking around the engine shed and the various restorations going on, unfortunately its very hard to take pictures as its such a cramped facility, but still worth the visit. I did have a nice chat with a gentleman in the rear yard for about an hour discussing everything from railway preservation to politics!! I really hope they succeed in their goals of reopening the line. It would be nice to see a preserved railway somewhere 'local'. (I grew up in Cam, coming to Canada in 1981 when I was 13).
  22. Thanks for sharing these, please keep doing so..I'm sorry for your loss but this is a great way for you to share his memory.. Mark.
  23. I'm not sure that happened on ex GW locomotives as their numbering system never changed with the formation of British Railways. I believe they weren't renumbered because of their cast number plates, but they of course had to fit the smokebox number plates. I really like the thread even though I'm not very familiar with the area. Mark.
  24. Sorry for your loss Darren. I look forward to seeing his other photo's. I'm surprised I hadn't found this thread before, I went to Barry once, I begged my dad to stop the car, but he wouldn't. Just got the briefest look at the loco's from the car and that was it. Mark.
