  1. Am really enjoying the Alan Harrison Collection on you tube. The latest video at Stratford in 1986 features a MK 2a FK or should say the Mk2a FK in Scotrail at the end of a rake and later in the video a ScotRail full brake behind an electric again as part of a rake of coaches. I've seen the FK in blue grey pre 1986 as part of the 1984 Jacobite service 477 Mk2a and DBSO between Edinburgh and Inverness but think it wasnt part of the rake in ScotRail livery that did Dunblane Edinburgh push pull rake by 1986. Perhaps no longer required it wondered the country looking for something to do!
  2. Have been making progress - slowly anyway. Have added extra framework underneath the boards to prevent sagging. Now that the points and motors are in place and since I know where the Heathcote Electronic units will go for the signals. I was able to add the extra framework below the tracks. In the meantime, years ago I got a Railfreight Redstripe 37, however it apears this livery didn't appear until 1987. Must admit although I liked Railfreight livery, personally I did not like the Redstripe version on 37 or 47s anyway. I managed to get an original Railfreight version, 37906. I assumed it would just fit on however a little bit of work is needed as the new body nose end are a little different to the old one. By the summer of 1986 some Welsh 37s had started appearing in Railfreight livery. Just need to find one to renumber to with the clips above the head code box. 37906 only fits into 1986 by a couple of weeks being converted mid December 1986. Some of the 3769x were converted in the summer of 1986. Will also have to change the overhead warning stickers to the older version. Will just have to imagine this Welsh machine came on a trip to Scotland. Before above, after below.
  3. As a result of buying Bachmann 37906 I noticed it has two "things" above the head code. I then noticed the same things on some of the 3769x locos ( lower photo above). I had not really noticed them before and initially I wondered if they were connected to the conversion to 37/5s. Looking at more photos I see they were not restricted to 37/5s. A few questions then. What were they for? Did all 37s originally have them? Why do some have them and many, (most?) don't by the mid 80s? Did a higher proportion of 37/5s have them and if so was there a reason for that? Thanks
  4. Andrew has been busy uploading more videos of our show this summer.
  5. More details to follow of our 2020 show once they become available.
  6. I have been scouring books and the web for a while and I cannot find a Railfreight Red Stripe 37 pre 1987. I can find some Railfreight 37 without the red stripe in 1986 and even one or two in 85. The good news is that I have managed to source an original Railfreight livery body for my 37 so I can swap it for a Railfreight Red Stripe body. It is 37906 which just as in a matter of days hits into my 1985/86 timeframe. I may look to remember to one of the 3769x locos some of which appeared in Railfreight during the summer of 86. A question, 37906 and some of the 3796x locos have two fittings above the head code box. Does anyone know what they were for?

  10. A video about our new premises. Exciting times for our club as we look forward to developing the hobby as part of SMET.
  11. A few of us went to the DRS open day at Carlisle at the end of June. Lots of blue diesels and a surprise encounter with Royalty in Carlisle station on our way home in the form of LMS Princess Elizabeth.
  12. Some photos of the new shed from our BBQ on the Saturday night of our 2019 exhibition and a video of he exhibition by Craig Watson of Dean Park Station. As ever accompanied by Robbie our resident piper. Worth saying although our new facilities are first class, the bar in the corner was a temporary fixture for the BBQ rather than a permanant feature.
  13. Please see the below link for details of the group.
  14. Press Release Dated Feb 2019 Perth & District Model Railway Club The committee and trustees of Perth & District MRC, a charity registered in Scotland No. SCO45282, are pleased to advise that the club will formally merge with the Scottish Model Engineering Trust (www.smet.org.uk), a charity registered in Scotland No. SCO 32308 on April 1st, 2019. Within the SMET organisation, Perth & District MRC will function as an interest group, the identity of the club being maintained. This merger will ensure the long-term future of the club’s activities and has several advantages: The club will move, this summer to new permanent accommodation at the Wester Pickston Railway which is located a few miles west of Perth. As well as room to store and work on our layouts, there is also access to an established workshop and social facilities. The Wester Pickston Railway is situated in 7.25 acres of countryside and consists of outdoor railways in 7.25” and 5” gauges as well as an established 16 mm scale interest group. The addition of model railways from gauges N to O will enhance the activities on the site and create a centre of model railway engineering and railway modelling excellence in Scotland. The Wester Pickston Railway is open to the public 4 times per year and at other selected times. The model railways will also be open for viewing during these days. The well-respected “Celebration of Model Railways” exhibition held annually at the Dewars Centre in Perth will continue as normal, in 2019 the event is to be held on 29th & 30th June. This exhibition has been steadily built up over the last 27 years and its future as one of the UK’s top events is assured.

  16. Oops - wrong open day. I thought this was the Carlisle one, ill need to find or start a thread for it.
  17. For those who missed it this year or for those wanting to see some of the layouts gain, please see David Watson's video. As Stan say the night shots after the lightning strike make for some interesting viewing. Enjoy Only 361 sleeps to Perth 2020!
  18. Had a great day today even though it got very warm. When the rain finally came late afternoon we had a proper downpour, rain bouncing of the ground accompanied by thunder and lightning.
