  1. Also missing from the job description is the ability to keep a straight face and say September each and every year when asked when the DBSOs will be released! All the best to Dennis who has always made time for a wee blether when we met at shows.
  2. Another great video, with the exception of 47712 in Large Logo and a GWR liveried Inspection Saloon everything is BR Blue Grey. The film is well set out starting at Inverness and workings its way round various locations. Enjoy.
  3. A video from 1983 which also includes an inspection saloon North of Inverness, this time a GWR liveried one.
  4. Thanks for your post and advice re additional pick-ups. However neither Lima HST power cars used to stall before the motors were replaced and since both the original pancake motor and the CD motor replacement use the same pick ups I am not sure that was the issue re the stalling. Also the replacement motors did not stall on the club layout (Kent Panel Controls). My original question relates to the motors failing altogether and in particular whether others have had any issues using them with a Gaugemaster controllers and or high frequency trackcleaners?
  5. I bought two of them on eBay that were already fitted specifically for Lima engines. That said looks very straight forward if you can source motors and the cogs. YouTube has videos of the process.
  6. Bought a couple of the CD motor replacement motors of eBay from a seller who had added the gear specifically for Lima Bo Bo. Fitted them to two Lima HSTs, ran them in separate 2 + 8 formations. Really easy to fit. At the club they ran very well with no issues, v high top speed and good slow speed. At home I had to nudge them occasionally when restarting them for a stop. Then last week after a running session they would not restart at all. No short, no smell of burning out. Contacted the seller who was v good and provided a full refund. Seller advised he has only had a few returns, most have been from layouts with Gaugemaster controllers. Interestingly at home it us a Gaugemaster, as the club Kent Panel Controls. Was running for longer at home than at the club, but stalling issue only occurred at home even after a few minutes sometimes, I.e not just after a long running session. Seller also referred to high frequency track cleaners possibly being an issue. I have one but it is not connected at the moment. Would like to retry as the running was excellent when they were going. Any thoughts?
  7. There was a bit of debate on here about whether or not an inspection saloon was used North of Inverness as an observation coach for the public. Those who said no suggested when seen at the end of a train it was as part of a move. More footage has appeared on YouTube of it heading out of and returning to Inverness in 1986. Oddly enough unlike the converted 101 used later on they seem to have gone to the trouble of shunting it to the rear for the return. Video from the days the ex 101 as used often had it behind the loco on its return. I suppose there would have been little point in shunting an ex 101 unless it could have been turned. The ex LMS has forward facing windows at both ends unlike an ex 101. Mind you let's be honest some of us would have enjoyed looking at the nose of a 37 on the return leg on the ex 101. Departs about 11 mins into film returns about 31:40 mins. When it returns you see the occupants but not clear enough to see if they are engineers or tourists. Mind you its such a great video watch all of it anyway!
  8. Am still really enjoying your posts. Am thinking you will enjoy this video as much as I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCRYKXhmEm4
  9. Ya dancer, Another three excellent videos from Scotland in the 80s! This time the Alan Harrison Collection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKCLRM6MPt4 Manchester to Dundee, mostly Dundee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6bMHetcD9g Part 2 Inverness and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCRYKXhmEm4 Waverley and Haymarket. Enjoy.
  10. The one at Rails was for sale for £39.50, I could not believe my eyes then I noticed this was from 13 years ago, current price around £100.
  11. 1986 at Waverley can it get any better! The rather clean looking Bathgate Link 101364 is probably looking so fresh as 1986 was the year the line to Bathgate reopened. Hoping you stayed long enough at Waverley to photograph a 477 using Plt 14, maybe a 27 on the Circuit to Dundee and maybe a 47 on a portion train? Guess it is 20 odd years to late for requests now. Thanks again for all the photos.
  12. Said farewell to Run Rig last night, 45 years of great music. 1973 - Run Rig, and TOPS numbering what a great year!

  13. Always enjoy Ayr, well worth the journey. Looking forward to running Laurencekirk, to seeing Blair Atholl again and interested to see Stanley Junction. If its the Stanley Junction I am thinking of perhaps we could link it to Laurencekirk! Couple of photos of Laurencekirk, a Three Hour Express and Fish train.
  14. Found it at last, the photo of the Peak at Dundee on a freight heading South in an Edinburgh direction. I thought it was on my PC and spent ages trawling through photos I'd downloaded over the years. However it was in W.J Verden's excellent book Diesels in Scotland. So no need for Rule 1!
  15. Glad to see the website is still accessible. Was an interesting read, are all of the pages still available?
  16. Link to more details and photos of Carstairs. http://www.jhowie.force9.co.uk/carstairs.htm
  17. Next year's exhibition - 29th & 30th June 2019 - A Celebration of Model Railways, Dewars Centre, Perth. Will start a topic nearer the time.
  18. What looks like the Edinburgh portion of this type of service appears in this video. At 36 seconds and again at 2 min 30 seconds. Have got carriage working for Midland Region from 1985 or 6 so have combined portion, buffet coach was unusually in the middle of combined portion. Days out spotting at Waverley usually started by getting one of the two that stopped at Inverkeithing on Saturday mornings. I understand the Edinburgh portion arrived (including the service from Dundee and Aberdeen) first at Carstairs the loco facing towards Glasgow, the Glasgow portion arrived and the Edinburgh portion was pushed back to combine with the Glasgow portion. The diesel from Edinburgh would be detached and the rest of the combined train headed South. Northbound combined services would arrive into Carstairs on the Glasgow line. The train would split. The electric hauled train continued on the Glasgow line whilst the diesel hauled portion would head round the tight bend to Edinburgh. Both directions of travel Edinburgh passengers would reverse at Carstairs as far as the direction of travel was concerned. Have seen photos of 20s and 26s on Edinburgh portions, however normally these would be 47s. One of Trevor Ledgeway's rare videos from Scotland shows an Edinburgh portion arrive. And then a combined portion from the South splitting and the Edinburgh portion heading to Waverley TSO TSO BFK TSO TSO RMB seemed a common arrangement for the Edinburgh portions.
  19. Still enjoying this topic very much. Although Class 45s were an unusual at Waverley I do remember seeing a photo of one on a Speedlink service about to cross the Tay Bridge heading South. Have had a quick search but could not find the photo at the moment.
  20. Since I am on a roll. From spompeytransportvideos Glasgow Queen Street 9th October 1986 Remastered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUvBQP025Zs And Glasgow Central 9th October 1986 Remastered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZTVFq7pFlE Mr Spompeytransportvideo has assured me he has footage from Waverley which I am looking forward to seeing. Am hoping Soi also visited Waverley with his camera. Wee reminder as they were already posted on this thread, Bruce Galloway has an excellent set of videos from the 80s including one of Waverley. https://www.youtube.com/user/jbg06003/videos?disable_polymer=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtmUzB5NCEk

  22. If you search Soi Buakhao on you tube you get some interesting videos! Perhaps best as Legend says to search under contributed or uploader. Best of all subscribe to them and you get emails when they upload something new. Anywhere here it is, great video except for the Sprinters of course.
