  1. It is essentially a simple calculation between what calories we consume and how much we use. As an example when I did a bit research on the building of the GN mainline, I came across a note on the health of the navvies, their diet was bread, meat, cheese and beer (partly for food and also because water could be unsafe) and their average daily intake was 7-8000 calories. Admittedly they wouldn't live a long life on that diet but they were never overweight.
  2. I asked this of the nurse but as she pointed out I work in an industry where strength/muscle is built up and there are a lot of us who are fit and well and have no issues but who weigh a lot more than someone who does a sedentary job and looks similar.
  3. The surgery I use say they use the BMI as a guide and not fact, as people who play sports such as Rugby can fall into the Obese/Morbidly Obese category due to muscle size/bulk. They look at you as a whole and adjust it. IIRC my BMI weight should be 12-12.5 stone but the nurse said that for me and the job I do 13 stone is more realistic. Mind you when she weighed me and I came out at just under 16 stone she did say 'put the pastie down fatty'
  4. If he switched off the website it would, nothing to stop him taking what he has to shows to sell, then at least people could walk away with an item if they wanted it. Isn't it often said that the most vocal form a minority, if that is true then there are likely more out there awaiting a delivery that'll never arrive.
  5. Just looking at a pic of the inside of N2 1744 shows the boiler/firebox as black, and the cab side sheets in green. This could of course just be its colours since preservation and not the same as in service.
  6. Yes, I've just looked it up. Clive's been producing models out of plasticard for quite some time and he's very good at it.
  7. If you look at Clive Mortimers thread (Sheffield....something...maybe junction ? ok I'll come back to you with that one) then you'll see he's a dab hand at producing emus and locomotives from plasticard, the main thing is to build up a box with laminations on the curves and to then file away the excess.
  8. This is not a new picture but was the first I found. The totem was purchased at auction about 4-5 years ago and was originally under the canopy on the up side at Sandy. It was the second totem I had bid on but turned out to be in much better condition than the first, and I secured it for several hundred pounds less. The plan above is a copy of a 1911 GN boundary plan at 50' to the inch, it covers the GN main line from Stratford Brook to just North of Sandy and the flyover of the LNWR to Bedford (just over a mile)
  9. You're right, but out of interest does the shop you give the deposit to sit on it for a long time before ordering the item, or does it give you a idea of timescale for supply ?
  10. Plenty of Starlings about and the feeders are all seeing some action. As a pressie to our neighbour across the road we got her 2 feeders (seed & fat balls) and put them next to bushes outside her window to encourage more birds in her front garden, She's thrilled.
  11. Yet another with no idea. I have no 'Beef' with Bill at all and having met him (just once) found him a very pleasant fella. The recent products are very nice and those that have purchased have been happy with them. If you bothered to actually read the thread and where it emanated from you'd notice that Bill started the thread himself. Left in the original discussion it would have been in context but for some reason he decided otherwise. To me it seems that some want to see an argument, where it's actually a discussion.
  12. I'm sure someone will correct me but an EOI is usually a written agreement/notification whereas a deposit signals the start of a contract/process to supply, by taking a deposit it infers the item will be produced but Bill has already stated that quite a lot won't be. A contract can only be open ended if both parties agree, but there are no timescales given.
  13. Why has he got a South Sea islands passport . . . .is he telling the truth about this. .
  14. I'll just post this short reply as Andy looks to have removed access, but to me tends to confirm it was posting purely to inflame last post was and yet earlier. Here's hoping the New year brings a resolution for those out of pocket.
  15. As I was the one that posted this last I'll spell it out again. A simple search does not always bring up the home page with the warning, a search done just a few minutes ago on Google produced this page as first result. http://shop.cooper-craft.co.uk/index.php?cPath=61 As you can clearly see you are straight into the purchase pages and bypassing the warning. Of the 25 pages on the site only one has the warning that there is a problem with stock, and yet it also says Our full current and up to date catalogue is here online and can be browsed. Should you wish to do so, it is also possible to buy online over our secure server all items from our catalogue, using credit/debit cards. Mind you even the warning is out of date as Slaters are now going to restart production of their own kits again. So does the customer have to bear the cost of the trader accepting payment when he shouldn't have ? If he didn't take payment there wouldn't be charges. You obviously haven't read the thread, as those with more technical knowledge of plastic injection moulding have already stated that the moulds might well be degraded as they have not been used in years. Mr Dunn has never (knowingly) produced an actual plastic kit, he does not have a suitable machine to be able to use some of the moulds, and has traded on the stock that was transferred at the time of purchase. The kits that you mourn the loss of were actually lost several years ago. Do you not think that has been tried ? Believe me it has.
  16. And there lies the issue to me. It is immaterial to me what you do with your own money, although I would trust that anyone you supplied should pay what is owed, in the same way that any bills/invoices you incur should be paid. But when you take a deposit for an item you have entered into a contract to supply, if you can't in a reasonable timeframe then it should be returned unless the customer instructs otherwise, but your statement above makes it clear to me that because it's a minuscule amount (to you) of other peoples money it doesn't matter. Rather a sad way to conduct business. And so you return the monies if they're not to be produced. You do that don't you. Don't misunderstand, I wasn't miffed at not being able to purchase, rather I was taken aback that you stated you were unlikely to produce yet still willing to take deposits. I obviously inhabit a different world of business, I regularly take deposits that run into 5 figures and just once 6, but deposits come with an expectation to deliver and a clearly defined timescale, this can obviously vary but should never be open ended. But it always comes with the understanding that until you deliver, the money is the clients and will be returned if you fail to deliver. Whats different between your world and mine ?
  17. I don't. I see it as someone who realises that even though he's never been able to manufacture anything has got used to an income (of sorts) from an active website. As for shows if you read back through the thread you'll note that even though people have seen him they have not challenged him which is human nature. I have no time for someone who takes money and doesn't deliver, if he can't cope then he shuts the website, It couldn't be simpler. It doesn't stop him doing shows with actual stock but it stops the fraud.
  18. If you've read the thread why point the blame at customers for not reading the CC home page. You say you are a fan of CC so I'm interested to know what kits you've purchased from him recently ? I would add that I'm always suspicious of posters that register and then comment on a long standing thread such as this CC one with comments that looks to inflame. As for the bit in Bold, you are the one who has now questioned whether there is an issue.
  19. You've obviously commented without reading the thread. You can order from the site with a simple Google search that brings up the relevant page and bypasses the page with a warning. But even then, the fact that he receives an order and the the monies does not trigger him into contact to return the monies and explain. And if you doubt that he actually gets the order and monies then why has he returned some but not others. I would also add it's not "bitching and griping" it's someone not trading as they should and being fraudulent. You can't defend the undefendable.
  20. Seems you've already got that covered. I didn't even look at the loco's just the carriages and wagons. But looking just now reveals another half a dozen 'in preparation' with 30+ deposits. I know how much work I can get done in my full time job and also how long it takes to draw and get etched items for myself, just how realistic are the various 'in preparation' for actual production.
  21. Just some of the blame ? So what part of the blame belongs to the customer ? not getting his moulding machine working? taking monies and not supplying goods ? not responding ? Never ceases to amaze me that some seem to think that someone out of their depth and unable to make something work, is somehow the full of others. As for miraculously restarting, I think you've more chance of a virgin birth in Essex.
  22. I don't have a problem with a deposit if there is a very good chance of production. With EOI I do wonder that in the case of a small supplier it might be better to ask for EOI and when enough have registered an interest to then ask for a deposit with a definite timescale, if insufficient numbers don't come up with the actual deposit then the project is shelved with deposits returned or registered to another product.
  23. As a business owner I'm very surprised that you should wish to question my post in a dedicated thread, I actually thought I was going to read a thread about your production timescales. My original post you've quoted was in the Coopercraft thread, in that thread you were at odds with those that seek to stop him trading with a website whereby he can take monies and not supply goods. One of the responses made by yourself was that you had written off small amounts but might think differently if the amount were £1000. I merely pointed out the reverse position you held, whereby many individuals had deposited small sums with you but that it added up to just short of a thousand pounds, with many of the items probably never going to see the light of day. I never said anyone ordered a 1000 kits. Your own website listed 100 kits 'in preparation' on Friday, I checked before posting. My post came about because you were defending an individual whose business practices have become less than honourable, that made me look at your own website as when I had looked before it come across more as a 'wish list' I have seen one of your more recent products in the flesh and was impressed, I looked to order a couple but you only had limited stock of one and none of the other, I wrote and asked about future production. I have two of the brake composites left, and none of the brake thirds. I'm not sure, at the moment, if I will be re-running either of these kits in the foreseeable future, However I will be producing a brake composite, which was more common than the brake third, and a full brake later in 2017. This reply from you was over 12 months ago and it's quite clear that you're unlikely to produce another batch of either product, and yet on your website I can leave a deposit for them. I won't comment on the other 2 products you also mentioned for 2017 which haven't materialised but I'm able to make a deposit on. I would say that if you are trying to imply that I'm attempting to hurt your business in any way then I'm afraid that you're able to do that all by yourself without any help from others. My own experience of your early work nearly put me off kit building for life, part way through the build I remember emailing and asking a question as there were no instructions and the reply you sent was "if you need instructions you shouldn't be attempting it' I'm not alone in having a reply such as this and I know of some that have sent etches back as unbuildable. I think the replies you made on the CC thread have also raised a few eyebrows and made people think about your own attitude to trading. I know there are many here who are happy with your products and the more recent ones do look very good, they also seem happy to pay a deposit and wait for some months (even years) before receiving them, so quite why you want to continue this from another thread is beyond me as it makes no commercial sense whatsoever. It works fine but I don't lend it out, I'm happy to take a deposit on it, but I'm not sure when I'll deliver it.
