  1. The classifieds have been closed for 3+ years, what have you done in the interim ? Sadly that is not what happened, if you read back you'll find that Andy had quite a few problems sorting out disputes as just because someone was on RMWeb it didn't mean they were a modeller. Many people will look for an opportunity to purchase for a reduced price and then sell on elsewhere (as happened). Having sold a deceased friends estate, mainly through the classifieds then the remainder through B&S I'd say that there are quite a few 'chancers' on here who will take advantage if they can. Sadly no one's your friend when it comes to handing over money.
  2. Which one are you....Simon or Garfunkel?
  3. I can't say I miss a place to sell items, for me this place is about the exchange of ideas and somewhere to learn something. If that's not what you want there is always Ebay, which has proved useful to buy and sell stuff.
  4. I can't say I'm too fussed about who is staying and who's going. I would like to say though that I scored 30 on Popmaster this morning......it's rare but it happened.
  5. In truth they were probably not a bad kit, but in the hands of a 14 year old they didn't really stand a chance. I do remember using some pretty good brick papers at the time. All of this came from Bryan Scale Models in Midland Road Bedford, a most salubrious area then and now. Go on then, who is he?
  6. You're so lucky. You missed Flares and the Osmonds. The card kits were bowed walls and nothing on the inside.
  7. I'm not saying anything quality, but does anyone remember those card kits from the 70's.........
  8. This always makes me smile, what those on other forums don't realise is that when they look down at RMWeb they are just the same. I note it's referred to as "The Dark Side" and other such names and yet is the forum where most other forums members link to for information. Back on track (plastic or otherwise)
  9. I keep blood donating (O-) 2-3 times a year. Now as part of the process they send you a text message and say where your blood has gone after it's been taken. I'm half expecting someday to see your name in one of these texts.
  10. A 2 Bedroom will cost you a G1 0-4-4 in full GN lining, a 3 bed is a pair of A5 7'6" singles, and a 5 bed is Great Northern* in full GN lining. . . . .I know I can build a house quicker than me lining.
  11. Many thanks Tony. I have a feeling most of the stuff I make is a bit 'dodgy' well thats the look on Berns face when presented with it. Look forward to seeing you both in Feb, if not before. I'm on the door as usual putting visitors off.
  12. That's reserved for the 25th when there's a repeat performance, luckily all the drains in Bedfordshire are directed towards Luton.....explains so much....
  13. I used to, But it needs qualifying with 'Badly'
  14. I'm reliably informed that both locations are full of the same substance.
  15. I went on Tuesday and they put a camera where the sun doesn't shine. As she started the procedure she asked if it was ok, I replied "I'd have preferred a handshake as a greeting"
  16. Yes it's one long rod which I must admit I'm not keen on, I did think about splitting it up into 2 pairs of axles. I think I've got some Gibson universal frets so I'll have a play.
  17. This might be an awkward question to answer, but how much 'play' do you all put into rods/crankpins ? On the bench is a Cotswold Long Tom (GN 0-8-0), I've a Mashima motor and Branchlines box that run well, the chassis is the old brass bar that has been altered to accommodate the mashima setup, The wheels, axles and crankpins are Markits and the rods are from the kit. I've run the motor and gearbox and they are fine. I've assembled the chassis, wheels and rods and they run/roll. You connect it all together and it just won't spin freely with the motor getting very hot, if you spin the worm gear with your finger it helps but it is still a bit tight. The rods are accurate to the axles so I can only presume I've got the rods a little tight on the crankpins. I'm used to either large 7'6" Singles or 4/6 coupled, it could be I've had a similar scenario before but the 4 axles have shown it up this time. Any ideas ?
  18. This is Some relatives joined a Happy Clappy in Norwich. We were invited along to a re-affirmation of wedding vows and went to see what it was like. The service was 2 1/2 hours long with the 'sermon' being over an hour. I started to count the amount of times the Pastor said 'Amen' in that time but got bored when he hit 120 times. They also asked for a 'Silent collection' (no coin) so I was happy to help on that score. whilst sitting in the pews I did ponder that the service would be the same for joining a collectors club
  19. I like this analogy. But thinking about it If OO is CoE then P4 is High church (Catholic maybe...) but what section does the 'Happy Clappy' Pentecostal represent ? as regards modelling, I do it for me and no other, Modelling the GN there isn't a lot of RTR but if something is produced I'll take advantage of it as a finished model or a base layer to adapt.
  20. If it's any help this is the underside of a Long Tom (GN 0-8-0) which is on the bench. I've used .5mm Nickel silver wire which has been soldered to copper clad pads epoxied to the underside of the chassis. If you look in close up there is one wire along the length to join them all and some short lengths which will be bent to 'wipe' on the back of the wheels (all insulated) there will be 2 bends put into the wires for 'springing' and they have some sleeve on them. You will also see 2 wires soldered to a pad which go to the motor/decoder.
  21. Modelling 'Sandy' as I do, I had to think long and hard about this. The route is on a gentle curve at this point, but to get the operational interest that I wanted South Box and the entrance to the yard has to be on the curved end boards. The radius is approx 9' for the GN down to 6' for the inner Ox-Cam lines. At the North end there is 'Station rd bridge' which acts as a scenic break, but I decided to continue the scenic area around onto the curved boards to 'Cambridge Rd Bridge. This has turned out as a scenic area on its own which I'm quite happy with. Maybe not to everyones taste, but I figured out that if I wasn't building this, then I probably wouldn't have built anything.
  22. We try as a club, but one layout takes 5 operators of which 3 are linked by headsets so any interaction has to preclude them, at least one of the others will make themselves available to answer any questions and if there are any spare they will do the same. It has to be said that occasionally you'll be talking and concentrating on the headset about the next move, and a member of the public will lean over and start talking to you, we always reply or shout for another to answer. This usually works and we've had no negative comments.
  23. Not if you went to an 'All Boys' school......
  24. And yet of the 5 I know (1 GP, 1 surgeon and 3 consultants) all of them are quite open that they went into it for the challenge and the money. I won't count the Dr (GP and owner of practice) who up until 18 months ago lived next door, He went to prison for fraud and was asked to 'retire' at aged 52.
