  1. You've no idea how tempted I was to say 'which was the better rid........' but then I thought better of it.
  2. They're not your friends then. They may not understand the appeal of what we do, but if they dismiss you they are shallow and not worthy of you spending time with them.
  3. Books and paper don't go to landfill they're pulped for re-use. Books that are taken into charity shops end up there if they already have copies as it gives them instant income. We have a depot in Bedford that pays for old clothes, books and ornaments by the kilo.
  4. Did it do anything for the hairballs ? I'm tempted to ask if you can lick your ar..........maybe not...
  5. Surely that's a "Fistful of Dollars"....Joe/blondie.. Sadly I shall now be reciting various lines from that film genre this afternoon.. "There are 2 kinds of men in this world Tuco..those with guns, and those who dig"
  6. In the long run you may be able to do that, although I don't know whether claiming ownership in such a way is legal. For instance if you said X = 14 days you might it too short a timescale and find that 30 or 90 days would be more likely. You would in any case have to wait until the Ebay/Paypal refund has run it's course.
  7. I've always found the service and product excellent. Ordered a couple of motors only last week and a reply within seconds confirming the order and whether I needed any worms etc. I await the postie as I type.
  8. That's really impressive. It's good to see you've started a collection of old and redundant coinage too.........best use for that now would be a weight.
  9. Because the communication is via a third party I don't think you can ever call it yours if you've been refunded the monies. The refund is by Ebay/Paypal not the seller. There could be a legitimate reason they are unable to respond but your refund will happen automatically. The seller may well look like they've been active and listed items, but they could easily have been set for automatic listing some days previous.
  10. IIRC there is an article in 'Which' magazine this month about how quick some companies are to send instructions to a debt collection agency. By co-incidence, as part of my work I sometimes have several power supplies to sites, the latest is a shop conversion and I am signed up to E-ON as that was the existing supplier, I had a bill in December which was estimated so sent in my actual meter readings (our usage is so low we would be way ahead if I paid the estimate) and had a note to say a new bill would be sent. 10 days after the original bill I got a text message and an automated call telling me to pay the amount owed, I emailed the company and said I wasn't impressed but the tone of the text message "You still owe us for the energy used. Please pay or call us asap" while waiting for a reply I had a repeat of the text and another automated call. The reply I received didn't apologise but re-itterated that I had used energy I had not paid for, I relied that I had never been late before and that as a developer part of the bill was payment in advance so they were in effect demanding money before supplying energy. The next reply was more apologetic but used the excuse that the texts were date/time related and were 'automatic' I told them to find the 'off switch' then. Whoever purchases will be given the info about suppliers in the folder I produce, including those that I've had issues with.
  11. Were they in a Blue or a Red uniform ?
  12. I'd write an email to building control and check, as I may be wrong. It's some time since I checked.
  13. Only your local planning dept can answer that, a short email with a picture or a sketch with the basic dimensions should do. One issue you haven't mentioned is where it is. If it is on the boundary (or within a metre) then you couldn't have a Timber building as you must have a metre between it and your fence/boundary (last time I checked it was a metre).
  14. How are you drawing the artwork for the etch ? Depending on what it's drawn on/in, a sheet of plastic would fit in the post. Feel free to PM.
  15. You'll need some for scenery
  16. There are bridge strikes .....then there are M&S Bridge strikes..
  17. If this is any help to you, I am currently working my way through things required for the layout that need etching. As I'm a tight 'so and so' I only like to pay for one phototool, so when I draw up the etch I convert it so I am able to run it through the Silhouette cutter. Being able to put a chassis together in plastic first has been a great help and a sheet of plasticard is far cheaper if I ruin something. Also it's easy to be able to add and change the parts to fit then change the drawing to suit.
  18. Pop over when you've got another 5 minutes....
  19. If there was a bit more room it could possibly have gone over the axle rather than slung under. In this case though it would either be in the well tank or up in the firebox. To give an idea on how little room there is, A Mashima 1020 would be out the top of the fire box! I'm figuring on finding a motor then making up a motor mount to fit.
  20. Thanks, The ideal one is out of stock but I reckon I could get another to fit. I like the idea of hanging it off the axle with belt drive. I'll draw it up and see how it fits.
  21. Out of interest has anyone tried building this in 4mm ? I'm playing with an idea but trying to find a motor/box to fit inside is proving......difficult... She really is small!
  22. Do what I did (many moons ago) I purchased from a club stand some secondhand kits and built them for experience, then sold them on eBay ( a few years after building) and recovered the initial cost + a bit. You don't have to build a wagon kit but you need to try some techniques with the iron, what about any buildings or small items you might need (BRUTE trolleys for example) that are available. If all else fails, scratch build a rail bufferstop from scrap rail, it'll get you into bending and cleaning the metal ready for soldering and can take a fair bit of heat and brute force so doesn't matter if you're a bit clumsy to start with. I would say that the kits look good and if you are going to scratchbuild they have already taken you a fair way down the road.
  23. There may well be some people that don't want relatives to know what they've been surfing on the web...... I've got 'post it' notes stuck all around the Mac screen, I can't remember them myself!
