  1. I'd get the Tardis checked it took you back to the same point twice.
  2. I find that the majority of road users will move out of the way safely when they hear and see "Blues and Two's" It's when they realise they're on a Nissan Cabstar towing a Kubota digger that the fun starts. . Can't see the problem myself,
  3. A friend in Frankfurt would ask if it was "light or dark red" it matters apparently.
  4. This thread will soon be as old as my Cabstar (18 years) and with just as many holes in it. I work on the basis that every driver on the road is a blind deaf idiot who is on the phone, so far it's worked well for me and with the A1 at the end of our road I actually see quite a few drivers that fit the description well.
  5. Same at Sandy, although moving to the diesel era 47's were Duffs, 31's were Brians ( refering to Brian the snail from "The Magic Roundabout") and the cravens were Fart carts
  6. An ex Midland (steam) driver friend refers to them as "Jocko's"
  7. Picking up on those 2 towns, St Neots is now the largest town in Cambridgeshire and set to grow even bigger with a further 3700 houses planned for East of the ECML (next to Loves farm) Population is over the 40,000 mark and set to rise to something like 60,000. Camborne is approaching 10,000. When the B&C closed Sandy pop was 5,000 but is now 13,000, it is unlikely to have any major further expansion as it's constrained by the A1,ECML & River, Biggleswade is being expanded (Kings Reach) and is 18,000 with 25,000-30,000 planned. With the straight line strategy it ignores the topography of a large escarpment (Everton) in the way which is why the original B&C went via Potton to skirt around it. There's also the issue of no towns or population to actually use it.
  8. It's off topic I know, but my fathers attitude was very simple. When you are C/E on a 250,000 ton tanker en route from the gulf to Europort and the bathtubs with sheets get in the way in the channel, they must understand that you can't manouvre so therefore if they are run down they only have themselves to blame. I do remember being on the bridge (sea trials) and even with radar there was an awful lot you couldn't see especially when running with no load and 70 - 100' out of the water.
  9. I like it when on the approach to Black cat roundabout the lanes are defined as right hand = right turn (Bedford Bypass) and left lane= Southbound A1, always being in the left lane as I head South it tends to move faster than the right so people will pull out to undertake and then try and squeeze back in at the roundabout. Sometimes when I've passed cars have pulled out not seeing that I'm towing the digger, makes great entertainment in the mirrors Black Cat roundabout has just undergone an "upgrade", it's quite amusing as those that used to undertake and then push in on the roundabout have found themselves in the Southbound lane with kerbs stopping them pushing in. Strangely enough the slow speed accident rate has gone down too as there are fewer shunts when traffic avoided the push ins.
  10. Good luck there, I was going to invoice as it's his fault I'm re-building "Sandy" "Nothing from a dry well" was the reply
  11. On returning from working in America in the 80's my Father moaned about the state of driving in the UK and how it had deteriorated, he then promptly set off on the right hand side of the road and attempted the High St roundabout in the original "French" way. Nothing changes but don't blame those in cars such as BMW.Merc etc for the worst, it's just another unfounded generalisation.
  12. That's looking really good. When you start roofing I presume you're going to make a scaffold of sorts or get a couple of towers.
  13. How far South of Peterborough ...... is there a road nearby......and would it fit in the back of a Nissan Cabstar...
  14. The issue for a proposal between the MML somewhere near Luton and the ECML near Hitchin/Stevenage is avoiding the density of population/Housing and the topography of the land. A route further to the North is not quite so hampered.
  15. Yes, if you look at a map the shortest route is on the alignment through Bedford (which still exists) then bridge the Bedford bypass (road over) skirting by Willington (as it did) with a slight deviation around Blunham, cross the A1 (again road over) and you are in open country North of Sandy, with plenty of room for a flyover the ECML to the up and a chord from the down. At Hitchin there is no reason why a cambridge bound service could not use the up platform and then reverse and utilise the old down Cambridge line, for West bound services it could utilise the flyover to access the down platform (I'm sure it's bi-directional) and again reverse to head North.
  16. A bit further East. http://www.eastwestrail.org.uk/2015/07/27/study-identifies-two-most-viable-corridors-for-east-west-rail-central-section/?utm_source=EWR+website+subscribers&utm_campaign=6af7cec9dc-Project_Progress_July_20157_31_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_2857d8a26e-6af7cec9dc-242417729
  17. 3D print from Shapeways again ? or real wood......
  18. It looks like the motor is in the trailer and the coupling between that and the trolley has electrical connection too, so pickups on the trolley as well ?
  19. Anything can be Dcc'd so long as you can isolate the power feeds, the problem is where to put the chip, I'd figure on a small "N" chip under the roof of the trolley with the wiring down a pillar
  20. I saw this on another thread and thought of this layout http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/details.php?id=368
  21. I might be wrong but haven't Bachmann already done one ? if not there's possibly a kit out there somewhere.
  22. Thanks Paul, much appreciated, I find now that when I start something I try and have as much stuff on hand to finish as I hate being stalled on a project, like Mike I enjoy "teaking" but lining is something I really don't and have tended to weather so as to cover it (not successfully either)
  23. I may be wrong but weren't the Wickham trolleys given a run along the Buntingford branch or is that beer glass talk I've heard ?
  24. Interesting Paul, for info was it any specific tape you used ? I'm working my way through a back log of kits at present (another 4 D & S wagons last week) but these are very much on the "to do" list and getting closer.
  25. I've heard you've got a V2. . . .
