  1. Drooling over this. It looks fantastic I've wanted a model of 89001 since she was built. The detail around the underframe is fantastic.
  2. I have overhead wires on my layout as well. Unfortunately they are currently on the baseboard because two cats decided it would be a good place to lie down. 😭 I used the Dapol masts with the peco wires. I used thin clear fishing line to tie the pantographs down so they run just under the wires without making contact. Nice looking layout you have there.
  3. EMU preservation is a nightmare since you have nowhere to run them unless you go mainline which is very expensive. So until a preserved railway is electrified they will be static exhibits. OK so the class 313 would not be difficult to put back on the mainline just now as it has only just come out of service and has all the up to date saftey equipment fitted to it. If you were taking something older say the class 303 at Bo'ness then you would have to fit it with data recorders GSMR radio TPWS and in future ETRMS you would be talking about a million pounds just for that. Then the transformer and all the high voltage equipment would need overhauled and recertificatied. Etc hugely expensive. Next problem is how do you make your money back? I'm not talking here about how do you make a profit, because you won't. With a steam powered railtour you will have a lot of the general public willing to pay to travel on a steam train. You can get them to pay extra for first class and even more for a dining experience. You can add extra coaches to accommodate more people. With an EMU railtour it's mainly going to be enthusiasts only. No first class no restaurant coach and you can't add extra coaches. So you are limited in how many tickets you can sell. To run a railtour with the class 313 from say Southampton to London and return you will have to pay track acsess charges and pay to hire in at least one driver and one guard. So probably in the range of 40 to 50 grand that makes tickets for the tour very expensive. Then people will complain about how expensive it is. Especially for standard class no toilets and no food. With the Brighton Belle at least you will be paying for a pullman experience including a sit down meal and some luxury which will appeal to the general public. Don't misunderstand me I hope they are successful and I really wish them well. As someone who is involved in EMU preservation (a static EMU) I understand the challenges they face.
  4. These look amazing I like the etched steps on the front. Accurascale are raising the bar yet again. I love the multiple working jumper cables on the front they look fantastic. Any chance of selling them individually as they would be good for models of class 86 and 87 and all first gen EMUs
  5. Quite. I'm sure they will complain when their drivers lose their jobs due to not having any trains to drive. The DFT will be rubbing their hands with glee. ASLEF are asking for any train that does not meet current standards to be withdrawn. Good bye to class 150s 156s and 158s and any branch line that they operate on. And once all the passengers have been forced onto the roads due to a lack of trains, they will be exposed to even greater risk of death and injury. Turkeys voting for Christmas Let's be honest the unfortunate driver at Carmont would not have survived the crash regardless of what type of train it was. The accident report even said that.
  6. From the drivers union ASLEF TO: ALL BRANCHES, REPS AND HEALTH AND SAFETY REPS Fellow Members, RE: RAIB REPORT INTO THE CARMONT RAIL CRASH In their March session the Executive Committee gave consideration to a report from Executive Committee Member, District No.7 dated 10th March 2022 and a report from District Organiser District No.2 dated 9th March 2022 regarding the RAIB report into the Carmont Rail Crash. The Executive Committee dealt with the matter by adopting the following resolution; 311/496 “That the reports be adopted, and the General Secretary be instructed to make the necessary arrangements for the following to be actioned:  That ASLEF demands that the ORR to begin the immediate process of withdrawal of HST’s from service across the entire rail network by 12th of August 2023.  That ASLEF demands the ORR initiate an immediate industry review of crashworthiness standards of all rolling stock in service today and insist that classes of train or locomotive that do not meet minimum standards of crashworthiness be modified or be given a timescale for withdrawal.  That ASLEF demands the ORR ensure that going forward there are regular reviews of the crashworthiness of legacy rolling stock to take into account the “state of the art” at the time of the review, and the introduction of any new cab equipment.  That ASLEF seeks changes to legislation to meet the demands made in these recommendations and campaigns to do the same.  That the RSSB initiate research on the design, specification and effectiveness of lifeguards with a view to specifying a new standard that would prevent the derailment of trains in scenarios such as the one experienced at Carmont.  That in line with the RAIB report ASLEF calls for the RSSB to review its previous research on the fitting of secondary impact protection devices for train drivers (including seatbelts) in the light of the circumstances of Carmont, future train accident risk (including derailment) and the capabilities of current technology.  That in consultation with relevant stakeholders the RSSB evaluates the case for fitting specific secondary impact protection devices into new and existing trains; and where justified and incorporate requirements for improved protection measures into standards for train driving cabs.  The RSSB to initiate a workstream for the introduction of robust rules and standards in relation to route proving criteria. Further that the General Secretary be instructed to raise the issue of:  The fitment of Guard Rails with Network Rail.  Bogie retention concerns with the ORR and all relevant TOCs.  Fuel tank battery fire risk with the ORR all relevant TOCs. Further that ASLEF calls for:  A full public enquiry into the Carmont rail crash.  The removal of Alex Hynes as Managing Director of Scotland’s Railway.  The ORR and Crown Prosecution Service to pursue prosecutions of Network Rail and Abellio Scotrail for corporate homicide/manslaughter in relation to the deaths caused by the Carmont rail crash. All Branches and Reps be advised.” Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of your members Yours in solidarity MICK WHELAN General Secretary
  7. Gwr inspection saloon oh well nothing I need whats that scotrail livery, count me in.
  8. I've been having a look round and drawn a blank. Does anyone make 00 gauge tightlock couplings? I have a resin body for a class 318. It needs a tightlock coupler. It does not need to be a working coupler for my purposes. Any suggestions would be appreciated
  9. Yes it was along with Cyril Bleasdale as general manager
  10. Just because basically. Scotrail did things like that. 2 class 26s in br green class 303 in caley blue. The 37 was used on a few specials from Glasgow Central to East Kilbride top and tailed with a black 5 and got the oor wullie nameplates that had been removed from 37402. (The Sunday Post has 2 long running cartoon strips oor Wullie and the Broons in case anyone wondered about the name) Scotrail set up a special trains unit and ran its own railtours class 305 round Ayrshire. Union of South Africa and blue Peter on Edinburgh glasgow services and class 26s to Oban.
  11. Just seen they have some new products bufferbeam detailing for locos and coaches which look fantastic and very reasonable prices
  12. Mine arrived today. I've been wanting one in West Yorkshire livery for a long time. I used to drive them in this livery when I was based at Skipton. The fact the destination screen at one end says Skipton is an added bonus. Looks great not had a chance to run it yet so can't comment on the how well it works.
  13. Class 06. But the Hornby model isn't that accurate, but it is cheap.
  14. I notice the complete lie told by the DFT in the press release. They claim ASLEF withdrew the rest day working agreement. When the truth is ASLEF and TPE agreed a rest day working agreement, only for it to be blocked by the DFT. Also blaming the unions for the strike action when the DFT refused to let the TOCs negotiate with the unions.
  15. Since class 66s sound like ying ying ying ying ying ying ying. Will this go "god save the king king king king king king"?
  16. When is the Prince Andrew one coming out with the number 12,000,000 on the side?
  17. A class 319 would make a lot of sense. They have already done it in N gauge wide area of operation and lots of livery options.
  18. When I drove class 308s in Yorkshire it always amused me to see passengers press the rubber door stop on the side of the coach thinking it was a door open button.
  19. Looks great pity no one does these rtr in 00 gauge.
  20. I never bought the 00 gauge one as I was waiting on them doing the transpennine livery. They still haven't done it.
  21. Since I started in the railway its been 5mph in the depots. Although I've seen some Liberal interpretation of yard speed in the past. In the washer road of my nearest depot line speed was 2mph. On one occasion the depot manager was sat drinking a cup of tea in the shunters cabin when a train passed by on the washer road next to the window. "What the dickens" he said or stronger words to that effect. "Its OK its just an express going past quipped the yard supervisor. When the driver had changed ends and came back into the main part of the yard he was met by the depot manager inviting him for tea with no biscuits in his office.
  22. With samsung it has smart switch you can connect the two phones by either a cable or over WiFi and maybe Bluetooth. It will transfer everything between the two phoned. All photos documents apps video contacts passwords etc took about half an hour as I had a lot of stuff, but very easy.
  23. Cars waiting at level crossings and none of them have drivers or passengers in them. Buses at bus stops and none of them have drivers or passengers.
  24. Good thing we have forward facing cameras in a lot of trains these days. In the event of an incident like this one they would back up the drivers story. In other cases drivers have claimed a signal was off but the footage shows the signal was on.
