  1. 00 gauge picket line with 3 00 gauge transport ministers which you can swap round every few weeks to make it realistic. A 2023 ticket office with a closed sign on it which on the 2024 edition will have costa coffee stickers applied to it. also coming soon a 00 gauge food bank.
  2. Definitely not a class 303. Although if anyone has a photo of a class 303 running as a 4 car in the Manchester area in the 1960s I would love to see it. When they went to Manchester for transformer mods they sent them out for test runs with two motor coaches. Never seen a photo though
  3. No idea what was going on there it looked normal until I sent it then all these blank spaces appeared. Wouldn't let me edit it. Had to switch to a different device to edit it.
  4. If anyone was looking for a what if livery, here is an oddball based on something that was considered near the end of the class 50s life in service. In 1991 the class 50s were being run down and some had been withdrawn. Meanwhile the cla158s had just been introducd were having lots of teething troubles. The situation was so dire that ScotRail was considering removing the class 158s from service as a temporary measure, and replacing them uled Scotrail had a problem though the class 47/7s had been transfered away to Network south east. One possible option that was looked at was using class 50s. One ScotRail manager who knew I was going to the open day at Laira asked me to have a look at the class 50 scrap line to see what condition the locos were in. I reported back that a lot of them had been cannibalised. And never heard anymore about it. The 158s were never taken out of service. And the class 50s never went north. Had the class 50s gone to Scotrail would they have been repainted? Maybe the red NSE band would have been painted light blue as happened with some coaching stock but what If one had been painted in ScotRail livery like the class 47/7s had been? I've told this story before, but it is little known. I'm not sure how serious the suggestion was or how far it progressed. But its fascinating to think of what might have happened
  5. Wouldn't rule it out. Since they have done all the 3d scanning for a brand new tt gauge one that is better detailed than their 00 gauge one. Hope not though.
  6. I've wondered in the past if these vapes could be used to produce fake steam probably too big to fit in a 00 gauge loco but should fit in 0 gauge. Alternatively fit one under a steam loco shed and have steam coming out of the shed.
  7. Paid my final installment earlier. Really looking forward to this model. The photos I have seen so far are stunning. Congratulations to all the people who have worked on this project.
  8. 1 no more expensive than a 3 car DMU 2. A class 313, 314,315,507 and 508 Class 317,318,455 Class 320,321,322 These families of unit operated over many areas of the country, over many years and in many liveries. 3 chicken and egg. If you want to make a model based in Scotland do you model OHLE when there are no models of EMUs to run under them? I would also say a class 303 would go down well operated around Glasgow and Manchester one even was based at Clacton. They would sell better than a North Eastern electric loco that only operated on one line. The only rtr emu in 00 gauge was the class 350 and bachman didn't even do it in transpennine livery.
  9. A new range of plastic kits to compliment the older range. For example a class 08. It would be a cheap way to populate a diesel depot with stabled locos. A modern breakdown crane. No one has modeled one since Hornby many years ago and it is not suitable for modern image. A tamper. Lack of a motor wouldn't be an issue as they spent most of the day sat in a siding. Some modern buildings And some modern unpainted people the current ones are great for steam age railways but not modern day layouts. Some road rail vehicles especially a BRUFF.
  10. I used to live in Skipton and its noticeable how many of the kits are based on real buildings in Skipton.
  11. I model 00 gauge I have built up a large collection of rolling stock over the years. If I was going to build a new layout it would be 00 gauge I wouldn't start all over again in a new scale. There are many models I want some are rtr others are available as kits, none are available in TT. Maybe I'm not the target market here. But I find it odd that Hornby has been recycling old models for years class 37, 47 and 66 that should have been replaced with better models. But they sat on their hands and let others make better models. Lima vi trains Bachmann accurascale hattons. Ironicly they are now trying to sell the lima models in the railroad range. Now they are going to bring out brand new class 37,47 and 66s presumably highly detailed in TT scale. Would the money not have been better spent bringing out some decent 00 gauge locos?
  12. Not had experience of this but I suspect the floor would need a lot of cutting to get it to fit. 2 options here. One would be to buy the Dapol version of the kit just for the floor. Or making a new floor from thick styrene sheet, this would be the cheaper option. As for an interior it would depend on how much of the motor is showing through the floor. You could make a fake floor to hide the motor, then make some seat backs from thin styrene sheet and glue some people inside with their bottom half cut off. I suspect the fake floor will be much higher than the prototype floor. I know a lot of other people on here will have motorised one of these kits in the past and will have a better idea than me
  13. While the prices may be high, it is almost fully booked most nights. Merging it back into scotrail would save money. You would be able to get rid of a lot of managers and office staff. When it was split from scotrail caledonian sleeper had to create its own managing director, timetabling, rostering, human resources departments and many more. None of which would be required if it was put back into scotrail who could use their own staff. Cutting all those staff would save a lot of money.
  14. Hi Scott work has stopped due to other commitments, hope to restart it soon will re add the photos
  15. As I recall at some point during GNER days probably during the mallard refurbishment, the bogies were turned round to face the opposite direction. This was to improve ride quality. Someone may be able to give a better technical explanation as to why this was. So on the original Hornby mk4 coaches the yaw dampers pointed one direction and the new coaches have them facing the other way. This means the original ones are correct for intercity livery. But the new ones are incorrect for intercity livery. Conversely the original ones are incorrect for later liverys ie LNER but the new ones are correct.
  16. Spraying the track is definitely the quickest. However be careful spraying near points. They are best hand painted. I learned this the hard way on my box file layout. It knackered the points.
  17. A trick I used back in the day with lima locos was to put some sellotape over the printing. Push it down lift it back up and the printed numbers and logos would lift off.
  18. How many locos? As many as you want. I have far more than I really need. I could fill my diesel depot 10 times over.
  19. Is this the furthest away from a railway and the furthest north for a pair of grounded vans? Next to the road to Uig, Isle of Lewis
  20. Before going test every set of points test every inch of track test all the locos. Be prepared that even after testing everything and ensuring it all works when you get there something won't work. It's just the way it goes. Give yourself lots of time to set up. When you are set up test everything again. It will probably all work. Be prepared for it to stop working in the first hour of the show. These things happen. Take some glue with you to stick back on the bits that will fall off the layout even though they were glued down. Take some scatter material and ballast with you to replace the bits that fell off in transit. Remember to take a tool box with you. Essentials are a multimeter a soldering iron screw drivers. Track rubber wheel cleaners. Of course if you forget to take something it will be the very thing you need. If you are on your own operating the layout take sandwiches and a flask of tea, strong coffee, or stronger whisky. OK so it's opening time and you have the layout running perfectly, well until it goes wrong...... Remember why people go to shows in the first place, to watch trains running. It's also called a show for a reason. So put on a show run as many trains as you can, try and keep something moving at all times. People well normal people, not enthusiasts will stand at a layout for two minutes at most waiting for a train to run, after that they walk away. If there is something running they will stay longer. Be prepared for questions some sensible some not. "Is this based on a real place?" Is one of the most common questions. Remember when the layout starts giving problems , and it will, don't swear in front of children. Difficult I know. Your layout has moved from a stable temperature in your railway room, outside in the car into another hall. Now as the hall gets busier it warms up. Your track has been expanding and contracting and things that used to work now decide not to. Listen most of all enjoy it. It's great to get positive feedback on your layout its nice to meet new people and to be able to show off what you have built. Before you know it the show will be over your feet will be aching and you have to pack it all away and take it home again. When you get home leave it for a day before setting it up again and give it a test. at that point you will find the bit that had stopped working that you spent ages trying to fix has miraculously started working again for no reason whatsoever. After that you can start to look forward to your next show.
  21. My personal preference would be to have the chips removed as I run on DC. Others may disagree. Many years ago I bought some locos put them on the track and they wouldn't work. Opened them up and found zero one chips. Had to sit there and remove them.
  22. I have to buy online as my nearest model railway shop is 73 miles away. The second nearest is 120 miles away. It's not like the old days when I had 2 shops in my town selling model railways and 4 shops 24 miles away in my nearest city. One new shop opened a few years ago but Hornby would not supply him unless he had been open for a certain number of years. Therefore he didn't have much to sell and went out of business. Now if I order a loco from one of the big retailers I have to pay postage, I don't mind that. But if I want to buy a small tin of humbrol paint i have to pay the same amount of postage, which is more than the cost of the tin of paint. If I'm buying direct from Hornby it costs more for whatever item I'm buying. Compared to buying it online from a model shop. I get why Hornby want to sell directly to the public, more profit. But it should not mean we have to pay more. Nor should it be to the detriment of their big customers like Hattons or Rails of Sheffield.
  23. Hope everyone boycotts their model of Lion. I have already got my order in with rapido. And I won't be cancelling.
