  1. I can't remember all the details but if something a piece of music or film is remastered or remixed the copyright starts from the date it was released to the public A few years ago a number of previously unreleased early Beatles recordings were released unannounced on the Internet for about 2 hours all remastered. Before being taken back down. Apparently the reason for this was so they could say they had been released to the public and increase the copyright period. I presume they hoped that nobody would notice and download the tracks. Well someone did and managed to grab them and they now circulate between collectors. I'm presuming the same will apply with the BTF films if they were released on DVD Or blu Ray remastered then the copyright date will start from then.
  2. From speaking to the guys at model rail Scotland an EMU is out of the question in the short term. As they want to focus on popular classes of locos makes sense for a new company. I would love to see them do a class 03 and 08 the current models are getting on in years and while hornbys class 08 is a very good model it does not have working lights, it's overpriced and they don't release many versions of it. Lots of potential livery and detail variations if they chose to do it. The class 03 is a much older model and could certainly be improved on by accurascale.
  3. Imagine you take the layout out of the club room put it in a van transport it to the exhibition set it up in the hall, in the winter with the hall doors open test the layout it all works. Overnight the doors in the hall are closed and the hall heats up the track expands and in the morning when you start running the layout before the doors open.... you find all sorts of issues that were nor there the night before. It's happened before to one or two of our layouts
  4. The GSMR radio in the cab can be used as a two way radio. The driver in the leading loco will still have control of the brake. The horn will still work as there will be air supplied from the loco at the rear
  5. Could the mk 5s be converted to sleeper coaches and used on the GWR sleeper services?
  6. If they are taken on by a different TOC it will be good news for Accurascale as they will get to do the model in another livery.
  7. Hardly surprising when Hornby are only selling at the RRP and the retailers are selling them cheaper. Why pay more to buy direct from Hornby?
  8. I have the thunderbolt set ordered so I was going to give the model of lion a miss. Then I saw the photos and it looked so brilliant but I thought no I must not give into temptation. No I don't need it no you already have thunderbolt ordered no you don't need it, must not.... Anyway Lion arrived yesterday and its gorgeous detail is great paint work is great. What a brilliant model never thought I'd see the day when anyone made a rtr model of it. And now there are two companies doing it. Rapidos looks like the better of the two, I'm not keen on the paint colours from the red box mob. And after the underhand attempts from the red box mob I'd rather give my money to Rapido. Its also my first rapido model and I'm very impressed by it.
  9. Got my 37043 yesterday. I used to watch the real thing go past my primary school on a 1 in 58 gradient. Accurascale have done a phenomenal job of this. The detail is superb it looks amazing. And despite that they have managed to keep the prices reasonable. I absolutely love it. Even if the lads from Accurascale are slowly bankrupting me. Can't wait for the class 50s and class 89s. Hopefully they will have a shot at the class 08s at some point in the future......
  10. I'm surprised at their age. When I heard about it at first I thought there most have been someone with some inside knowledge. I've heard a bit more than what is in the public domain which I won't go into but there must have been pre planning that went into this. Despite their age they knew what they were doing. It think it's been inspired by the original robbery in the 60s but time will tell it will all come out in the wash.
  11. I don't suppose you would be kind enough to translate it for those of us who don't speak French?
  12. Saw this formation several times passing my primary school taking the Mexican bean to and from eastfield
  13. I would like to see the dft stop micromanaging every aspect of the railway and let the people who know how to run the railway get on with it. More electrification at least here in Scotland we have a plan which has already started unlike England. Simplified rail fares. The current system is way too complicated and passengers are unwittingly paying more than they need to. A proper rolling stock policy with standardisation. Too many different types of trains for no reason that are incompatible with each other. A proper cascade of rolling stock instead of perfectly good trains going for scrap before they should while older trains that should be scrapped are still running around. More freight on the railway. HS2 built all the way to Glasgow and Edinburgh. With a connection from HS2 to HS1 A strategy for reopening railway lines not all the ones that were closed. But the ones with the best business case. Building new lines to all airports. New light rail / tramways for all big cities to take buses off the roads.
  14. They won't though. Maybe at a large stations but a small station like Appleby there will be no staff
  15. Don't forget at smaller stations the ticket office staff grit the platforms during cold weather. And clear away the snow. Who is going to do that? At unmanned stations there is a cleaning squad that will do that. But you will need more of them you will need to buy more vans for them more diesel and road tax for the vans. And even then it will take longer for them to get round all the stations. There will be more compensation claims from customers slipping and injuring themselves on untreated platforms. There will be extra costs fixing all the additional vandalism that will happen. Also staff are trained to approach people acting out of the ordinary. The person who has stood on the platform and not got on the train, perhaps their waiting on a friend who is running late, maybe they are an enthusiast. Or maybe they are considering suicide. Many lives have been saved by staff making an intervention. If there is no one to stop them then the number of suicides on the railway will increase along with the resulting delays and cancellations. Not that this government care.
  16. Smiths couplings don't actually screw up if that's what you were looking for but you can still use them to couple up. They do look the part. Only time I have used screw and 3 link couplings on a layout was on the clubs 0 gauge layout and while they looked good they were very fiddly especially on some locos with snowploughs. I can only imagine how fiddly they would be in 00 gauge.
  17. Except it isn't Avanti have proposed closing their ticket office at Glasgow Central. The RDG claim that there will still be ticket offices at large stations is a lie other avanti ticket offices to close are Euston Manchester picadilly and Birmingham new street. The claim that you can still use cash by buying on the train is also a lie. For example Birmingham new street. How do you get through the barriers to get on the train to buy your ticket with cash?
  18. Was there any difference between the two power cars? Or could you just buy two and renumber one of them?
  19. On our trains the secondmans seat is like a brick with no padding no lower back support and is extremely uncomfortable. There is no sun visor either. The union approved this. Yes drivers don't care about DTMs however the DTMs are also in ASLEF and the seat has to be used by driver instructors for hours causing them back pain.
  20. It's a brilliant book. Pity there are no models of the subway cars original, current or new.
