  1. I notice that another thread has appeared which Andy Y has locked and directed all to here. This is OK in one sense as I can see that there is duplication of sorts, but, with respects to all, N gauge is a minority interest and this subject is of great sentimental significance particularly at this time. Perhaps there is a way around this. Regards
  2. My only experience of Peters Spares was a recent one were I ordered the body of a Hornby LYR Pug of ebay and it arrived by return of post.
  3. Have any announcements been made re changes to the side grills? Regards
  4. Really not sure about your point re rail contact. Don't think it's relevant in these circumstances. My point is that when a coach leaves the rail it ought to stay up right and unless the conditions are truly extreme it is a design failure if it doesn't. Echoing an earlier post we ought also to be thinking of the driver as well as the hurt, the deceased and their friends and family. Modern day working shifts are such that that fatigue could easily have played a key role in this matter. I'm sure the RAIB will get to the bottom of it. Regards
  5. I use the Comet jig. Works fine for me.
  6. After the dreadful deaths and injuries the thing that most concerns me is the fact that the tram fell over onto its side. One of the concerns in any railway accident is that the vehicles should not fall over because that causes far more passenger injuries than when they stay upright. I wonder if these trams have been tested in such a scenario? Regards
  7. Driver reportedly arrested. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/nov/09/croydon-tram-crash-five-trapped-40-injured Regards
  8. When SPA wagons were in infrastructure service what were they used for? Regards
  9. To be fair, the Manchester/Liverpool/Preston electrification was done reasonably well. I think they just took on too much too quickly. Trying to do London/Bristol/Oxford in one big bang was always going to be a challenge. Having said that it seems to have been the civils rather than the electricals which have caused the greatest problems. NR should be able to do civils without any problems at all. Regards
  10. It's nationalised now, but that's a pretty recent development in IIRC the last 18 months or so. The reason George Osborn did it was to bring expenditure under control not to ensure delivery of electrification of the GWML. Putting that to one side, I'm astonished that there won't be any wires into Bristol Temple Meads or am I reading the runes incorrectly? Regards
  11. I was looking forward to these models but I think I shall limit the purchase to two bearing in mind the price.
  12. 8F Class locos did run on the Southern indeed a batch was made at Eastleigh. I can remember seeing one at Clapham Jc in 1964. Regards

  14. Last time I passed Willesden engine shed there was an 08 with a converted container wagon used as a runner. But it was about five years ago. Regards
  15. I think that Bachmann have probably underestimated the potential market for this product and have de-spected it down to a price as a result. Now they're being criticised because their design won't handle sound when they have encouraged the market to want sound. I do wonder if they had been more adventurous in their design they could have had space for a speaker and have more weight built in so they could have omitted the traction tyres. The model may well have cost more but it would have better met the needs of their target market. Regards
  16. No matter how impractical or how much people disagree he is entitled to his view. He is not entitled to express it by being abusive or unkind but he hasn't been abusive or unkind, just pretty straight forward. For what it's worth I disagree with him too. I don't understand the obsession with sound particularly as it's only the sound of the engine. There are other sounds on and around a railway and only having the engines make sounds seems to me to be most unrealistic. Regards
  17. I have always thought that reproduction CLC station would be a nice addition. The CLC was very important to the GCR and it would be good to have it recognised by the current GCR
  18. My understanding is that before the EG extension footfall was decreasing year on year. When the EG extension was opened footfall increased dramatically but has since declined. Whether it continues to decline I can't say. Regards
  19. In 1968 a loco turntable and watering facilities still existed and was used in the August. There's a film of it in one of the B&R videos. I think it was as single track even then.
  20. I recently saw two EM HST power cars with a Virgin East coast train at Werrington. I have previously ( two years or so ago) seen a complete EM HST set at Retford. Regards
  21. I'd quite forgotten about valve gear! That complicates the plot a little. AGW do the wheels for a conversion, Dave Franks the coupling rods, I suspect that the RTR connecting rod and Walchaerts can be adapted, perhaps. Looking at the Brassmasters website, I see that the boiler is a resin casting, so the rest is possibly possible, but it costs £165 with the Ultrascale wheel sets getting close to doubling that. I think that if I do this, I'll stick to the cheapskate method! I too would like to apologise to 'mikemeg' for causing his excellent thread to wander. Regards
  22. There isn't the slightest chance that I have the skills to do the Brassmasters kit, it would just be a waste of money . I might, though, be able to modify the Comet chassis kit to suit and use AGW adjustable coupling rods. That might work. I wonder how many kits of the Jubilee chassis Comet sell? It's market is going to be very restricted if it doesn't fit the Bachmann body, not matter how accurate to the prototype it undoubtedly is. Regards
  23. That's a blow, I bought a Bachmann body and tender to do just this conversion at some point in this life. Which one is at fault, is it the Bachmann or Comet item? Regards
  24. Me too! Most appreciated and it shows other manufacturers that it can be done. Regards
