  1. The PW team had to fund their own Kangol hammers to tamper the track in the early noughties. They were getting no assistance at all from the railway, but then the Bluebell is notorious for its cliquey politics, both internally and the way it behaves towards its enthusiast base. Best left alone to get on with it! Regards
  2. I do wish contributors would refrain from putting external links to photos. They take ages to upload. Regards
  3. I've got an ABS kit of a Warwell somewhere in the loft. It's probably easier to buy the RTR than to try and find the damned thing.
  4. Pity, they used to run visitors the previous weekend it was nice to go and avoid the crowds. Thanks
  5. Are the 8F and B12 running this weekend?
  6. Many thanks, I've bookmarked the page in two places, just to make sure! Regards
  7. I'm getting the impression that these have been removed from the Hornby website. I'd be grateful if anybody could point me to where they are on the web. MTIA Regards
  8. Do any of the diecast vehicle producers sell an appropriate load for one of these wagons? Regards
  9. TPE! I would have thought that it would be appropriate to the XC service. But then so would the Manchester Airport to Edinburgh service. Regards
  10. http://www.steamindex.com/jile/jile52.htm , and scroll down. The journals of the ILocoE are available. The RCTS Library might have a copy of this one; it has many others. Regards
  11. These might be useful. http://www.enuii.com/vulcan_foundry/magazine/Vol5_no8_1961/page_37_s.jpg http://www.enuii.com/vulcan_foundry/oddities/gt3.htm http://www.enuii.com/vulcan_foundry/magazine/Vol5_no6_1961/page_3_s.jpg This includes some photos: https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/diesel-electric-gas-turbine-prototypes.427861/ If you page down on the second link there is a cut-away drawing of the loco showing the engine. This seems to be very similar to the turbo-shaft engines then being fitted to helicopters, so the sound could be similar. There might be a fly in the ointment however. One source says that there was a pump on the air intake which gave an audible 'thump' when it was running. Could this pump have been a reciprocating pump similar to the Westinghouse? Don't know. Regards
  12. Turbofans? they were a long way into the future when this loco was around. RR was putting the Conway into production in the mid 1950s or thereabouts.
  13. Can I make a request for the push-pull gear fitted to Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T please? Regards
  14. Dave, Will it be possible to buy the body only of the J94? Regards
  15. I doubt if it would interfere with the galvanising but it would need repainting every 5 years or so. To do so costs money, so I really don't think it will be NR preferred option. That said they could have used the sprayed/heated treated finish used on my garage door. But again it would cost money! The galvanising will tone down in time and become more of a grey. Regards
  16. The issue of fitting w-irons to plastic kits isn't restricted to the LRM design. I haven't used the LRM w-irons but the S4Soc and MJT designs have the same problems (if it can be actually called a problem). A bit of filing helps and it doesn't take too long, just a few minutes. Regards
  17. I'm sure this is true. A sheet of mild steel plate, bent and galvanised will probably last for at least thirty years without any maintenance at all. It is probably cheaper to make and install than the old fashioned BR style of electrification bridge as well. But it does look dreadful. Regards
  18. Are you saying that you can't afford another one?
  19. Our next meeting will be at St Andrews Church on Monday 26th September starting at 8pm as usual and it will be a talk on 'Modern Prototype Signal Control Systems' by Jim Summers. Jim has given talks to the Group before on signalling and they are well worth attending. The new NLG web site is now available see http://thenlg.org.uk/ . The rest of the programme for 2016 can be found on the website but for convenience it is as below:- 24 October Modelling workshop 28 November Film night 19 December Christmas social evening. The current Newsletter is attached NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2016.pdf Regards
  20. Interesting that the dive-under will start from the Midland Line on the west side of the railway when most of the freight is up/down Felixstowe which is on the east of the ECML. There is very little freight up/down the ECML to the south of Peterborough. I'm a bit confused ... Regards
  21. If it were possible to preserve a 442 perhaps battery electric power would be the way forward. Preservationists have done things that were a lot more ambitious than that. Having said that I suspect that they are for the scrapman. But a complete HST might be a possibility! Letting all those go would be a serious ommission. 442s are really a footnote. Regards
  22. Would it not be possible in future to have a P4 specific version for pre-order only and charge extra for it? Regards
