Thanks for the unexpected words of support everyone - that never crossed my mind, I saw this as more of a sales pitch :-) BTW, if anyone does want the layout, PM me and make me an offer.
This decision has been a long time coming, so there's no chance of wanting to go back to 4mm scale. The 7mm stuff is staying for now - there's more chance of me getting back into that at some point in the future.
-
Thanks for the comments everyone - I wasn't expecting that kind of response!
-
Brilliant!
-
Nope. But you're getting closer!
-
Mikkel is the closest so far
I'll leave this one as a mystery, until the next update, when it should, with a bit of luck, look more like what it's supposed to!
Mikkel - It doesn't leave much time for getting things done which is, I think, why my projects always take longer than I think they should
-
Merry Christmas to you and Ruth too!
-
Glad to hear it's going well for you!
-
Thanks everyone!
-
Thanks both.
I'm fairly sure that shrinking the real thing would have been quicker!
Tom - the light has to be in just the right place to make the ripples visible, but I think it was worth the effort.
Looking at these photos, I think the marker lights could do with being a bit dimmer, thankfully that's just a matter of adjusting a CV. The headlight could also do with being a touch brighter - that's going to have to wait until the body comes off for another reason though, as I'll have to change the resistor.

Good luck with it all!

Of course, if you're going to call it Minion, then you'll have to paint it yellow
-
That's coming on nicely b)

Another vote for redoing the chassis from me, I'm afraid. Although a pain, it's definitely the easiest option.
-
Im not nuts, just stupid enough to do something like that! I really regret starting it if I was honest.
Heh, I think most of us have reached that point at some stage, I know I have in the past.
-
You're nuts!
It's looking great, there's some serious attention to detail there.

See if you can get a cheap Bachmann 66 body and graft the radiator section into the Lima body. It's hard work, but makes a massive difference to the appearance. It also means that you can reuse the Bachmann grille.

Thanks for pointing that out Ian, all I need to do now is to find out where to send the invoice
-
Will you be painting the wheels before handing it over?

The problems with FUD seems to be related to the support material, which is probably what has caused the problem with the cubed ones vs. the others. They should be fine on a linear sprue.
The 7mm Roe-Vacs should have been OK though.

Thanks Pugsley, I wonder if it can also be the other way round sometimes: That the camera records things exactly as they are, while our mind picks up all the different impressions and blends it all together into a processed version of reality? Wow, this is getting into philosophy now...
It can definitely be the other way round as well - the number of times that I've taken photos of a finished model, only to see in the pictures where I'd missed bits! I think you're right about the eyes and mind blending things all together - it seems to work that way.

Hi Jan, thanks and yes you have a point. It's just annoying when the photos don't match exactly what I see. I have a new compact camera, and I'm quite happy with it but I think I need to work on the settings a bit. The contrast is quite high.
I often find I have the same problem when photographing weathered models, the eye picks up things that the camera doesn't see. If you then see the photos in print, it's even worse!
The walls look good to me b)

Looking good! It looks like a working loco, but not overdone. Gave me a chance to try out the new buttons as well!
-
Thanks James, sorry I missed this comment somehow. You've missed no layout progress whatsoever, that's pretty much on the back-back burner at the moment! I'm planning to do a bit to it later in the year, with any luck.

Top stuff! Excellent modelling is always good to see, and as a self-confessed tank wagon perv, this is a particularly appealing subject You don't fancy etching up some monobloc tanks in 7mm scale, do you?

Never finished. They're still sat on my workbench in pretty much the same state, only with more dust.
