  1. The Spontaneous Multiple Unit Generator has spawned again, another one I don't remember buying, a class 150 this time... Makes a change from 108s!

The 150 had never been out of its box, it's the Trains4U one, how old are they now? It finally has a decoder..

I appear to have one of them also, just looked at my workbench and went ( in my best James may impersonation) oh cock!

I used the PH Design false seats etch on my Trains4U 150  (I do actually have one running on the layout). It is very effective - and still available

      cravensdmufan

Yes I still use red and black wire for my feeds - and yellow for the polarity switching for "common frog" feeds to the Peco SL-E's!  Actually doing mine right now as part of layout rebuilding!

    3. Dungrange

      Dungrange

@Hroth said "Red and Black date back to the pre-1977 mains cable colours, you really should start thinking in terms of Brown and Blue"

... but Blue doesn't rhyme with track!!!  That's why it's still Red and Black to the track. 😀

  5. My new Antex XS25 is a lot hotter than my old one. Both still work, both same model. Is this a change to reflect lead-free working?

That could just be dirt/corrosion leading to reduced heat transference on the old element.

Was your original one made for 240v and the new one correctly rated for the now 230v mains?

    4. Dagworth

      Dagworth

Both say 230v 25w on the handle. Not that the mains voltage actually changed in most places, a quick check with the multimeter here says mine is 241 volts

  6. Moving home this week to a place with a huge garage. This means work should be able to restart on Ravensclyffe. All progress has been halted for six months while we were house hunting

Not sure - but I think I might have met him a few hours ago, when I had to print out some web pages.

Firefox had changed all the printer settings - so everything printed out in miniature.

Took ages of hunting through "help" files - and looking online - to work out how to fix it.

Ever wondered why there are lots of "search engines" - and rather less "find engines"?

      Liam

I’ll admit that often I do have my bags on the seat next to me, although that’s normally because the train is quiet enough to allow that. Any time I’m asked to move my bags, or if the train gets busier, then I will do so, although one time in July 2020 going from Carlisle to Glasgow a request to move my bags came rather rudely.

      Hi Andi

I know mates just talking together. :drinks:  I ran a rebuilt Patriot with six LMS coaches behind it, and a B17 with four Thompson coaches behind it tonight as I done some modelling. I have now filed all the main windows to size as I convert a Tri-ang Sleeper coach to a SK. I also listened to the last weeks new releases as suggested by Spotify. This is one the best this week.

I hope you and Sheena are OK.

    3. Huw Griffiths

      Huw Griffiths

What do you mean "toy trains"?

Surely it's all "precision models" - and "serious research", presumably into all the vitally important details, such as exactly how many rivets were fitted to a specific loco (and precisely where they were fitted).

There's also the critical matter of how much fun operating potential is offered by various layouts, loco / stock combos and whatever else.

I probably shouldn't add this - but, when I was much younger, it wasn't exactly unknown for me to use the "serious research" term to describe mucking round with thoroughly testing radio controlled buggies - throwing them round ridiculously tight "doughnuts", "figure 8s" and all manner of other stuff nobody would ever be allowed to try with a real, full sized, car.

Saying that, though, it was great fun I'm sure I must have learnt a lot from all of this stuff - if nothing else, that I'd never want to drive like that in real life. (No prizes for guessing that my driving licence has always been clean.)

Anyway, that's more than enough of my thread hijack. Back to the trains (and whatever else).
