  1. OK I can now confirm that the one I bought was blue. So it looks like it is the new one. Working fine so far but only fitted and tested really.
  2. You can earn £1000 without paying tax so I think the OP should be OK.
  3. There is a lot of talk about getting done for 1 mph over but there is a bit of a problem with that. ACPO guidelines still are 10% + 2mph. OK they are only guidelines but if they start doing people for 1mph over the limit they will need a huge amount more staff. The Chief Constable who is hyping up this 1mph stupidity is asking to be checked wherever he drives in his own car. Guarantee it would not be long before he got stuck on! Massive discussion on retired Police FB page about this and the consensus is that it is stupid and sod all to do with safety as speed on it's own is very seldom the cause of accidents (or collisions as they are now known). Speed combined with something else is the cause and it is usually driving like a pillock!
  4. It is a good deal so don't keep yourself awake at night worrying about the banks.
  5. When I typed that I thought it would be a pay cut for you!
  6. I would like to be on £108 an hour.
  7. Johan like I said above a lot of the sub sections have 'pinned' threads. One of the problems certainly has been in the past 'some' people join and want to have someone do all the work for them and they are not prepared to look around first. That isn't to say that people on here aren't willing to help because they are. This is now a huge forum and the amount of posts daily that add to the vast amount of information on here already would make it really difficult to even know where to start with FAQ. What you and I may want to know the answer to will not automatically be what others want. Don't think that it is because people don't care about newbies. They do but there is only so much goodwill in the World and the umpteenth time someone comes on and ask a question that could be researched in a millisecond it tests that goodwill to the limit. Google has been my assistant and I find it useful because not only does it provide lots of links to here it also points to other places to look which means I can see a different point of view as well.
  8. I will let you know. They arrived today, installed and runn7ng OK. Only problem was I forgot to check! I will take the body off tomorrow and have a look. Doh!
  9. Pressing one place on a phone while driving is using the phone. Have no doubts about that.
  10. It was an internal publication but you are not wrong. Not that people didn't know where the Police Houses were of course. Even though all of them will have been sold now I can go to many a town and recognise one straight away.
  11. This was posted on a Lincolnshire Police retired and present facebook site taken from an old copy of the Force magazine. Thought it would interest some on here. Smashing bloke and a gentleman, much missed.
  12. Richard have you tried contacting Hornby customer services about this? I expect they will be keen to know of problems so that they can rectify them rather than leave them and damage the reputation of their product. From other threads it would seem that they have been receptive to contact. Just a thought.
  13. Not when the phone is held up to their ear.
  14. You make good points but you have not said who is going to compile them and keep then up to date. Who is going to decide what questions to ask? As I said before there very often is more than one answer to one question or at the very least the original question often needs questions asked back to clarify a direction. Johan the forums you have been on in the past did they have as many sections and sub sections as there are here? Who formulated the list and kept it up to date? You will receive plenty of help on here and there is a vast amount of knowledge on here that can be tapped. Very often the same question is asked over and over again so yes if that question was added to the FAQ then it may help others new to the forum BUT only as long as the information is current. Like I posted earlier when I looked for information about what decoder to buy the information was all old and therefore not really useful as products have moved on in the intervening years. So a FAQ may be useful at the point of being posted but can very soon be out of date. Martyn I take your point as well but the question about tankers can very easily be asked and answered by Google or one of the others without it having to be a FAQ as the information is out there already done by the search engines on everyone's behalf. Why duplicate that effort? In fact I just did exactly that but refined it to 'Where can I find pictures of railway wagons' and the first hit was Paul Bartlett's site. I am not trying to put people off the hobby, rather I am trying to show there isn't really a need for FAQ as the resources are out there on the net already which means the Admin here do not have to create yet another area to have to be updated and policed constantly. EDIT: By the way if you look at most of the skills sub sections you will find 'pinned' threads which are virtually FAQ.
  15. I am always gob smacked why these phone calls are so important they have to be answered straight away. These days most cars either have hands free built in or it can be added for very little. You see a car value 40 - 50k and you just know it has hands free yet the driver is still holding the phone. Having said that even taking hands free calls is dangerous. Couple of people have been killed here lately by someone on the phone. What did we do before mobile phones? How on earth did we manage not being in contact with someone every second of the day?
  16. It was ordered from Rails Ron so if it the old one I am sure they won't have a problem taking it back but thanks for the advice.
  17. Don't get irritated because someone has asked. Just point them in the right direction and then let them do their own research. I find the research to be interesting and enjoyable for the most part. There is very little that I have not found a satisfactory answer to and if that is the case I will then post a question in here. As an example when I was looking to buy decoders the information on here was quite old so to try and find out what is current now I just started a new topic. I have had the replies and that is another piece of research sorted. Newbies have to start somewhere and if we can help them along the way as I have been helped then all the better.
  18. Just to close this off from my point of view I decided in the end to go with the Bachmann 21 and 8 pin decoders. My reason being they have been spoken of as being decent on here and I would rather give them a try than spend that bit more so that if they are OK great but if they aren't that good I will use them on something else and see about sound decoders for the two DMU in the future. I am hoping that Hornby do a TTS decoder at some point of the 108 or 150 but if not I will stick with the Bachmann decoders as long as they are working well. It is an end to end of just over 11' long so slow running is going to be more important than continual running or speed as it will not be called for. I think the thread has served a purpose for me but hopefully for others as well if it has updated the thinking about what is on offer now and not five years ago. Thanks to everyone that has replied.
  19. I may be completely wide of the mark here but I waited for ages for the TTS 37 decoder to be released. It was on order for weeks and I suspect the delivery was delayed while Hornby sorted out some of the snags. At least that is what I am hoping anyway. Since fitting my decoder the loco has been back in the box and untried so I will see how it performs on the track when I have chance, I accept that Hornby sound will not be as good as the main players in the market but of course we all want the loco to run properly. I think it is great that we have a more cost effective solution to adding sound and am sure that in time all of the hiccups will be sorted and we will be delighted with our choice of cheaper. In the meantime it would seem Hornby are dealing with problems for customers rather than shying away from them and that is positive.
  20. I see three have agreed with you Pat and in principle I do but truth is drink driving is virtually unchecked now as well. Without turning this political the Police Force in the UK has been decimated in recent years. Budget cuts have meant loss of officers and certainly the loss of most of the Traffic Division as it was before it was renamed as Roads Policing. Those in the UK may well tell you of doing quite long journeys across the Country and never seeing a Police car let alone a Traffic Patrol car. People who are of an inclination to break the law be it criminal or Road Traffic know only too well how stretched the Police are and they see what we see. If you see a Police car out and about it is highly unlikely to be on routine patrol and more likely to be the way to or from a job. Hence a lot of people now take the risk of driving in drink/drugs or without a legal vehicle or documents because the chance of being seen by the Police let alone stopped are remote. As many many moons ago I was a Traffic Officer I am on a Facebook group for retired Traffic Officers and I can tell you that there is a lot of unrest about the lack Police presence out on the streets. None are happy about the revenue collection by speed camera and all will tell you there is no substitute for a copper talking to a motorist, finding out who they are and checking the vehicle and documents are in order. Good old fashioned bobbying!
  21. You have hit the nail on the head there. It would take an awful lot of time for someone and then it would need to be constantly reviewed and updated to make it worthwhile. Google (other search engines are available) and research is the best thing I have found but it means you have to trawl about a bit and sometimes ignore the older stuff for something recent.
  22. If you look at the Forum Index you will see how many sections and sub sections there are. If you want a comprehensive list that would be a list of what? If the list would be maybe the sections and sub sections and I am not even going to guess how many there are I think then a list of FAQ would be impossible to manage. It is accepted at the moment that the Search function is not as good as it was or in fact should be. That will hopefully change with the new forum software due soon. There are ways to search though. I, like you am a returnee to the hobby and I am constantly searching for answers to my questions. I just use Google and without exception have always found an answer of sorts. Actually a lot of the time the first answer is one from here. Every question you can think of will have answers that can change just by your reading of the first answer. Example as is often asked on here what is the best DCC system. First answer will no doubt be what do you want to do with it. From there your answer to that can also lead to a different set of questions and answers. It isn't simple to list a FAQ because there are so many different directions that the initial question can take you. I doubt my answer to your question has helped but it may have shown you that there isn't an easy answer. Use a search engine if the forum one doesn't help you and then you have somewhere to start. Above all else welcome back to the hobby and I hope you are enjoying your return as much as I am.
  23. Have a guess Paul! I suspect owner pays to return it then Hornby to send it back. One or two have done this already so they will be able to say for certain. I understand what you are getting at though. Under warranty terms they are being fixed but the owner should not have to pay for decoders not doing what they should.
  24. Have you changed the cv values as per the suggestions by Hornby first to see it that cures the stutter?
