  1. Hi Graham Perhaps I could have worded my statement "the underframes are pretty common to all" a little better! What I mean is, from a distance, they all look pretty much alike, even though some of the bits and bobs below the solebars can assume different positions, depending on the actual body and bogie type. I would be more than happy with a generic (but accurate for at least some body variants), underframe (long and short please Mr Manufacturer!), if the bodywork was accurate and fully finished in whatever livery I chose to purchase. Time is one commodity that always seems to be in short supply and the thought of building umpteen coaches to the same standard as the loco pulling them, is a daunting prospect. If the various underframe components were just plugged in to the underframe moulding, it would allow the purchaser to move, remove or even replace components as they see fit, in order to better correspond to the prototype's bodywork. It would also be a satisfying exercise in modelling, that could be achieved in a few hours per coach, which is a whole lot less time than building and painting an entire rake of coach kits. Regards Dan (With apologies to Chris for the thread hijack!).
  2. I would love to see some 7mm BR Mk1s so the same standard as Bachmann's excellent 4mm versions and think £200 - £250 to be a fair price. The underframes are pretty common to all, but with so many body permutations, I suppose cost is the main reason that it's not happened yet (Bachmann, having done all the hard work, being the obvious contenders). I imagine Minerva would be taking a huge financial risk if they took a stab at them, though at least the quality (unlike the awful Heljan efforts), would be assured. Regards Dan
  3. My copy arrived a couple of hours ago, but has unfortunately been confiscated until Father's Day.... Regards Dan
  4. Hi John I had the same problem with my BR blue version (which I'm ashamed to say, after several years, is still unfinished...!). I designed some suitable transfers using TurboCAD and had them printed by a company in Australia called Steam & Things, as I couldn't find anyone in the UK to do them at the time. This was before Railtec came on the scene. Anyway, if you're modelling BR blue, I believe the PMV/CCT transfers are now part of Steam & Things' range. The numbers are from another source, hence the difference in colouring! Also, it was me that designed the etched window bars seen in Pencarrow's build, but I only had about two or three sets done, as part of a batch of assorted stuff and have none spare. Good job with your scratchbuilt ones though - I thought it too much of a faff, hence the etches, though why Slater's don't include these (or indeed, suitable transfers), is a mystery! Regards Dan
  5. A top issue in my book - well done to all concerned. Regards Dan
  6. Here we go again - another serious Wild Swan/Cygnet thread appears to be descending into a spiral of nonsense! For the benefit of those of us that don't speak French or (I presume), Welsh, could we please have another serious thread where the merits of the book and/or cameo competion are the topic of conversation, in a language we can all understand? Regards Dan
  7. My particular interest is BR Western Region, circa 1948 - 1975, so I find it hard to get excited about stuff from much earlier eras. I have to say though, that Semley is very well executed indeed and with a bridge of my own to build, I was particularly interested in the skew overbridge on page 94. The rest of the magazine looks to be worthy of an in depth perusal as time allows too! Regards Dan
  8. Paddington Station, 17th September 2016.... Note incorrect spelling of "complied" in first picture! Regards Dan
  9. Thanks Dave, that's just the ticket! Happy New Year to you too and good luck with your modelling endeavours in 2017. See you at Bristol! Regards Dan
  10. Hi Andy Very much liking the track plan and concept of Beale Street Sidings and will be following your progress. I like this prototype picture too.... Could you (or anybody else), tell me where it is please? Regards Dan
  11. Hi Paul Good to see a JLTRT Mk1 build on RMweb, but before you paint the outside, please remove the end steps and fold the the triangular ends down so as to be at 90 degrees to the treads - they shouldn't be flat! Regards Dan
  12. I've been unable to quote Worsdell forever's post #1443 for some reason, but funnily enough, I found a use for a penny on my (as yet unfinished), 7mm scale MRJ Project "Wantage Tramway No.5" build. I needed to blank the front of the boiler off (made from 22mm copper pipe), to enable me to attach it to the smokebox and not having access to a lathe, I discovered a penny was just the right size.... Regards Dan
  13. Not strictly true - 3D printed bottles (and crates), can be seen on Richard Lambert's "Heyside". Check out pictures 3 and 4 in post #42.... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/66142-heyside-group-miscellany/page-2 Regards Dan
  14. It was a few years ago, but I seem to recall simply gluing the full thickness part of the etches directly to the glazing material with canopy glue. That then leaves a gap between the half-etched part and the glazing. I used canopy glue because I didn't want to risk fogging the plastic glazing material I'd used with superglue fumes! (Looking good by the way Chris). Regards Dan
  15. The one I saw at Newport recently had corrugated steel ends. Regards Dan
  16. Hi Alan. Just wondering if it's practical to swap heads (or even hairstyles), around amongst your figures? This would add some more variety and perhaps avoid the same characters/poses populating everyone's locos or line sides, whilst you're working to expand the range of figures on offer. Nice paint job by the way Ian. It's reminded me that I have some 7mm prints of myself to have a crack at soon. Regards Dan
  17. Popped along to NEWGOG yesterday and saw "Bakewell Street" in the flesh. It's a thoroughly nice layout and with a scenic section the same size as my modelling room, it's certainly provided a lot of inspiration and ideas for a small layout of my own. The locos and rolling stock were very convincingly weathered too. Regards Dan
  18. They are S7 Phill - look at my waistline Regards Dan
  19. Funnily enough Chaz, I had myself scanned at the recent Bristol show, both in civvies and in my DB Schenker uniform.... These are 7mm scale and I'm very pleased with how they came out. I showed them to my 5 year old daughter the other day and she instantly recognised her daddy! I have no connection with Modelu, other than as a satisfied customer. Regards Dan
