  1. The Bachmann and Peco couplings should be compatable, as seen here: The ones on the loco don't have loops as they aren't normally needed, and they look better without them. If you find them reluctant to couple up it could be because the Bachmann coupling is a bit thick. It can be improved with a bit of filing to slim it down, as seen on the right: The slate wagons also come with short couplings for use within the rake only, they won't couple with anything else.
  2. I eventually found another red brake van and coach, which meant the inevitable happened. The two combined bogie coaches: Into service: Happy new year .
  3. The later, which are fine if not mixed with other stock.
  4. I could muddy the waters even more by mentioning 55n3 , which uses On30 models for 3ft gauge in 5.5mm scale.
  5. There must still be some interest in On30 for Matt Chivers to resurrect his kits at Five79 .
  6. They already tried, and failed, to do LNWR livery.
  7. The label on the box is wrong, there is a replacement for it inside the box plus an explanation why. Quite frankly Rails should have known this and offered you the correct decoder.
  8. I've not had a problem with the theoretical short circuit at the point blade, but the experience of others may be different. In the past I've done this modification with the older style points by replacing the fishplate hinges with insulated ones, not possible with the current ones. I don't bother now as I don't find it necessary.
  9. That's not part of Peco's wiring . Not if it's connected to a switch, which is what you must be doing for the above mods to work. Are you using DC or DCC to power this layout?
  10. Why not just wire it up as Peco recommends? I don't see the need to cut any rails.
  11. The long ones (floor to roof) are part of the plastic moulding. The short ones just below the side opening are metal.
  12. Q2 seems quite reasonable given current circumstances. Plenty of other (expensive) goodies due before then.
  13. It's in original as built condition. The longer smokebox came later with superheating. Looking at another drawing: Length over buffer beams - 35' 2" Length over buffers - 39' 0" Width of footplate - 9' 0" (that seems a bit wide to me)
  14. Length over buffer beams = 35' 7.5" Width of buffer beam = 8' 6" Width of cab = 8' 0"
  15. The only one I'm aware of is from Digitrains .
  16. Ramrig's photos above show that the gap won't normally be noticeable when running on a layout. If it's just going to sit on a shelf it could be more of an issue, one of those things that cannot be 'unseen'.
  17. It looks like all your frogs are live, so you should have no problems. Most of my locos are 4 wheelers and run just fine.
  18. I've not seen, or experienced, any issues with the Heljan Baldwin. It's a different beast to their previous model, the Manning Wardle. But I think a quarry Hunslet would go better with those slate wagons.
  19. They seem to be 1/24 scale, which would match most other car kits. The old Airfix car kits were 1/32, same as Scalextric and other British car kits of the time.
  20. Whether this 'rival HST' is more false jeopardy or not, it's an interesting insight into the company's attitude to competition.
  21. It just so happens that I have an Electrotren body to hand. This photo shows the round part in its original location. I must have sliced it off of there and glued it to the new floor in Polly. Exactly how I can't remember.
  22. It's no wonder Hobbycraft have dropped Humbrol paints when even Hornby HQ can't get hold of Humbrol products (like glue).
