  1. Got to be Waterston - Albion tanks late 60s early 70s A pair on 1500 tons - 15 x 100 ton gulf tankers Slowed to a crawl through Worceter Shrub Hill then all hell would break loose... Happy memories Phil
  2. And have now reminded myself of the cantrail grille differences D1500-19 were different to the rest in this respect - look at all other class members you will see two finer ribs in each cantrail grille section between the main members, the first 20 lack these. Unfortunately the Bacchy D1500 is wrong as it has these two finer ribs - but depends how picky you want to be. They are clearly visible on this nicely weathered example - but that makes the body shell correct in this respect at least for later locos. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Bachmann+D1500&view=detailv2&&&id=90F6A7453CB3F1628B986C69D792F421212BA786&selectedIndex=2&ccid=gUwzX3c1&simid=607995223081224888&thid=JN.9oagJkeiLKHSHIfApTlWrw&ajaxhist=0 Of the Bacchy locos, I reckon D1547 is your best bet for an accurate loco that could have appeared on the High Dyke Branch - she was a Tinsley Loco 69 - 71. https://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6263063125/in/set-72157627649152349 http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v3.php?img=0925020503000 Kind regards Phil
  3. Hi again Yup thats the same body shell too. Serck grilles were designed to give better control of coolant temperatures as they opened and closed to help regulate this and also presumably to help protect against freezing - original 3 grilles were fixed. All locos that were built with the 3 fixed grilles were subsequently converted to Serck - often but not always at the same time as they acquired blue and air brakes Photos will be a great help in selecting your loco to model - http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_intro_v2.php is a great starting point if you havent already seen it, along with Flikr, smugmug and photos on this forum Kind regards Phil
  4. Hi there Bachmann has done 3 models in this area that may help you Things to watch out for are the fixed grilles v serck and boiler ports - apart from hoses on the buffer beam nowt else was visible externally with the addition of air brakes IIRC. Which locos has Bacchy done that might help you? 32-800 D1500 - TTG with fixed 3 part grilles 32-805 D1547 - BFYE with fixed 3 part grille 32-804 D1572 - TTG with fixed 3 part grille All of these have the same round boiler port as D1764 so assuming Bacchy got it right then the D1764 shell would do for an AB Serck version of any of the locos you mention - except I think there is something different about the cantrail grilles of D1500-1519, am sure others with a better memory will be along to advise on that Think it unlikely that any of the boiler fitted 47s would have had their boilers blanked off in this era - 68 - 73 essentially, the same as the one we model - as they were still very much mixed traffic locos Hope that helps Phil
  5. Nice video Alex Take off was fairly gentle given they were routed in to the goods loop! Phil
  6. Pleasant lunchtime stroll in Sandford Park today watching the trout in the river feeding on the surface. Then a long tailed tit was flitting around in an oak tree but typically wouldnt keep still long enough to pose for a photo Lucky to have such habitat 5 mins walk from work Phil
  7. Insider information or very lucky? We are so used to gen on mobiles these days but of course nothing like that then - things just turned up! Phil
  8. Roadrailers shot alone is fantastic! How often did they appear? Phil
  9. Was it the first blue of the year in Cheltenham today? Most likely a Holly Blue at this time of year but never kept still long enough for accurate identification. Phil
  10. Cracking layout Alex - well done! Cant beat DCC sound in 1970s diesels. Look forwards to seeing it out again. Kind regards Phil
  11. Great stuff Flood!! Maximum length of empty milk train = 45 28 were bad enough at Trainwest thanks! Phil
  12. Hi John Have a 71-72 WTT for Barnt Green to Awre Junction At the beginning of this there are several tables Point to Point Times - Passenger and Express Parcels trains is the first and is opposite the page you have scanned. This allocates locos to a timimg column reference dependant on load. In mine 6 is the lightest and 1 the heaviest - so for Class 47 6 = 365 tons, 2 = 550 tons (nothing rates heavier than 550 tons, seems to be max probably governed by length of train...) These timing column references then relate to point to point timings in subsequent tables, the heavier train the slower of course. Then we have a similar table for Motorail, freighliner, parcels and express freight trains which uses G1 to G6 for the column timing reference - again class 47 G1 = 400 tons to G6 = 1300 tons - followed by relevant point to point timing tables Then finally H timing column references for parcels and freights - H1 to H4 interestingly these don't specify weight limits in my version. So a 47 on 365 tons passenger 1V61 0700 Derby to Cardiff (Timing column reference 6) is allowed 8 mins from Abbotswood to Ashchurch, on a 600 ton parcels (!) 4V07 02.15 Crewe to Bristol 9.5 mins and on 8V53 Bescot to Stoke Gifford a whacking 19 mins! Hope that helps If tables not in your wtt then as Mike says they must be elsewhere Phil PS Love the moniker - once had a pet goldfish called Grimly Feendish
  13. That's whats so great about RMweb isn't it! But if you decide to go down the etched brass road we have used these... http://www.kato-unitrack.co.uk/a1-models-a9012-air-horns-turned-brass-19754-0.html Cheers Phil
  14. Bring on the Mole!!! Excellent Phil
  15. Hi Jinty Absolutely! Its those 40s isn't it? D200 behaved impeccably - had also done D211 for Pierre and he did D369 both of which were also spot on. Its definitely the answer to that problem Cheers Phil
  16. Now the dust has settled time for Trainwest post mortem Was great to see so many friends and fellow RMwebbers - thanks for calling by to see us So what is to be addressed? Train lengths: 50 empty minerals is too many for reliable running 25 milks also too many for reliable running So limits to be set Locos: Everything that we ran on the weekend behaved impeccably including the new 25s. Some work on replacing coupling loops to do and also 3 recalcitrant - D1015/5234/6320 that I knew were faulty before the show to sort. Layout: Point rodding looked good and surprisingly robust. Just need to add covering boards in front of box and at board joins Signals - those which are working behaved well too, just still need to finish the rest Control: There were some route setting issues initially which were tracked down to my helpfully having programmed points with the same accessory code number. Now rectified, need to get all other orutes completed and signalling realistically included. Otherwise a super weekend and many thanks to the crew! Phil
  17. Heres another of two blue Hymeks on Brian Thomas's excellent Hymek website http://www.shelbrooke.co.uk/Hymek/images/T-74-Hymek-at-Worcester.jpg Two blue banking hymeks looking rather unwanted! Suspect we can all see who is doing the work there Phil

Cheers Phil
  19. Ah sorry Neil - saw one flutter by yesterday lunch time in Sandford Park Cheltenham Phil
  20. Thanks mate ! Just home with van - last minute sorting and then loading up and off we go about 1 oclock You have a good weekend too - stay cool in advance of next week Phil
  21. Thank you Mike Really useful gen as always So in the cess it is then! Compensators will be retro fitted although heaven knows how many that is - 11 at a first count. That rodding has already cost £80 bet I will need still more kits Hope to see you tomorrow Kind regards Phil
  22. Your geography is spot on Clive! But of course the WR have taken it over and when the Gloucester MAS scheme was postponed in 1969 ( in our parallel universe!) the WR westernised some but not all of the S&T infrastructure Cheers Phil
  23. Thanks 28xx - that's in line with Clive post too - and his compensation admonitions! CHeers Phil
