  1. Coming on very nicely. The jig for ensuring a consistent height seems a very sensible idea! Two venerable magazines arrived in Chéz Seagull today, MRC December 1971 with a couple of drawings of coach sides (sides only - I suspect ends were in the first part of the article which I am now looking for!), albeit rather obscure (6 produced between them!) prototypes, and, more promisingly, RM October 1970, which has a very comprehensive article on scratchbuilding an LBSCR Van. It's the latter I will start with - packet of 30 thou plasticard should hopefully arrive by the weekend.
  2. Thanks, that does make it clearer - I'm looking at an LBSCR 54' Brake Third (3rd Picture Down); http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/bogie-carriages.aspx . I've kindly been sent a copy of a 1960's article to build a 9 Compartment All Third from two Triang/Hornby GWR Clerestorys as well, so quietly building up some useful resources for a planned layout.
  3. To be fair it hasn't been continuous, a lot of 'life' has meant several lengthy spells out of the game, so to speak! Anyway, have ordered an old issue of a magazine with scale drawings of a coach I would like to try, so will give it a go. One question on marking out - you say to mark out on the rear, but how do you ensure the dimensions/position of windows etc is correct when you then flip over to the 'clean' side? Would it not be easier to lightly mark out on the front? Thanks
  4. This is superb - will be following with interest. I've not indulged in scratch building stock before, but enjoy the process with buildings, and with a liking for the 1900-1925 period, think I will either have to give it a go or acquire far better soldering skills than I have managed on the past 15 years...!
  5. Unfortunately the volunteers (and the tractor...) who will be attempting to put it back together on Saturday morning all date from the 40's... Delighted with the win, and pleased to get a game in when I wasn't expecting it, but you do sometimes wish a bit of common sense was employed. We've got 9 games to play by the 28th April, it wouldn't have hurt to give the pitch a rest last night. Mind you, it did make for some terrific photos from one of our regulars! - https://www.flickr.com/photos/123320724@N05/sets/72157665981450208
  6. A 6-2 win tonight for the Stringers against lowly Southwick in a game that should never have gone ahead. Unfortunately, despite the presence of the League secretary and Respect officer, the only person who did think it wasn't waterlogged was the ref. This was the state of the pitch during the pre match warmup... Now we've got to try and get it fit to play on Saturday.

  8. Game off at Midhurst & Easebourne this afternoon due to a zombie apocalypse. Apparently.

Having been to Midhurst and Easebourne, that is probably not too far from the truth! ;)

They did correct it to 'waterlogged pitch' soon after :D

  9. Oh wow, delighted to find this again, and with some new images too. Hope all is well Geoff
  10. Wouldn't fancy mowing that back garden. Very nice though, will really add depth to the scene.
  11. Thanks, I hadn't thought of those, I think I may still have one somewhere...
  12. Thanks, I'm hoping we will! Got the set out last weekend and he was enthralled, though it was just a plain loop. Having a bit of trouble putting things back on the track after uncoupling but it will come with practice. Thanks to an absolute bargain on eBay (9 sets of points for £11!) and a kind donation from a friend I have now picked up all the track bar two curves, so it's off to the shop tomorrow morning and then we should be able to make something of a start.
  13. Here's a couple of the Ratio 4 Wheelers which I built and painted in what can only be described as 'municipal lamppost green' (actually a Tamiya USAF Olive rattlecan!) They were built for a light railway plan which was scrapped in a house move and are still awaiting a layout project, but I think they scrub up quite nicely. These two have been altered with Dean buffers and screw links.
  14. All I can think is I put it there when we moved in so it didn't get mixed up with my other track, and forgot about it. It is quite a deep frame/facia for a sliding door, so couldn't be seen from the ground, happened to notice it when getting Christmas decorations out of the loft!
  15. Thanks chaps, some good information there. I found a piece of Code 100 Flexi on top of the bathroom door, of all places, so will try with that first (he isn't having my dwindling stock after many false starts of SMP Code 75 ) I wasn't aware that tracksetta templates came in setrack radii, this is useful to know! PMP: many thanks, good to be back!
  16. Hi All; It's been a while, but after a very stressful time for the majority of 2017 (Pregnancy with complications which resulted in many extra hospital appointments, combined with a change of job description and subsequent mini breakdown at work) I am finally ready to step back into the world of modelling, as baby Hannah is now here and perfectly fine and I have been given a secondment to a new role which really appeals This desire has been helped considerably (they do come in useful sometimes ) by Charlie's (10) Christmas present of a Hornby Western Hauler train set! I've been having a play with plans for a layout that we can build together, and, after looking around for inspiration, found a rather appealing plan on Brian Ford's blog; http://brianfordtrains.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/crowley-oo-gauge-scenic-model-railway.html This appears to have plenty of operating and scenic potential (We had a trip out to Train Times yesterday and Charlie was very taken with the scenic side of things) and is nicely compact at 4' square. In order to keep costs low and to use the Third Radius curves which were included with his set, I've amended it slightly, - it was designed for second radius curves, so have taken these out, losing a siding at the top, the curved point and changing one siding from requiring a first radius curve to a third radius, but it retains the look of the original despite these. The items crossed off the shopping list are ones which we already have available. Obviously it would be cheaper to use flexi track rather than setrack, but I can't seem to make it fit in XtrkCad without getting the purple track of doom to say that the radius is too tight. So, getting to the point - can Peco Flexi track be curved to match setrack radii, or will it just not work? Thanks.
  17. A glance at http://fchd.info/PETERBOU.HTM for the relevant years (I think?) gives a couple of options for your Southern visitor Gilbert... 1957/58 season, FA Cup First Round; Peterborough Utd 3 - Torquay Utd 3 (Torquay won 1-0 in the replay) 1958/59 season; FA Cup Third Round Replay; Peterborough Utd 0 - Fulham 1 EDIT; Actually, another one the year before too; 1956/57 season, FA Cup First Round, Ely City 2 - Torquay Utd 6. First and only time Ely City have reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup to date. Nice note on Ely from the brilliant Non-League Matters forum, relating to a game earlier this season Apologies for the off-topic nature, but thought the latter especially was too good not to share!
  18. Thanks, that's handy to know! - I have a plan for an integrated cameo layout, 4'6 by 18" along similar lines of my short-lived Ripe project. Whilst the idea of cutting up a TV unit for the structure was somewhat clever, the weight (it being made of laminated chipboard) made it somewhat impractical - and the very small size restricted me scenically. Iain Rice's new book has been a real eye-opener, and I have a plan which I am very pleased with as a result of reading it extensively. It would fit in the car with a seat down and there would be space on the sideboard in the bedroom for it too. Need to cost up the wood to see what would be required.
  19. The only real noticeable differences seem to be the framing on the door and the placing of the bars, from the looks of it (would be interested to see a drawing to see if there is anything else). Great find!
  20. Will need a holiday to recover from the holiday! - First booked wrong dates, then booked wrong park - now finally resolved and going to right place at right time!

Should have booked a camping coach down at your local station. :-)

  21. has come to the conclusion that it's not possible to walk past a model shop without going inside. It's not possible to come out without having bought something either...

  23. This Lemon & Lime E-Cig liquid is nice. Still think they are missing a trick though - where's the Clag flavour?
