  1. It would be great if Oxford or EFE etc made one of the lorries used for discharging/loading these wagons, in 7mm of course. The wagons themselves are great vehicles, and the only (mild) criticism is that the links on the 3 links provided are slightly short, which could leave them bufferlocking on Peco 40" curves and short points, or has someone not found this to be an issue?
  2. My Deltic had problems over code 83 points, which are less forgiving than code 100 it seems. Perhaps the back to back distances are incorrect?
  3. Some of that track on the other side of the 08 needs another ballasting...
  4. Many thanks BlackRat, i will search accordingly, cheers Paul
  5. Now, praise the saints , the beasts are arriving we need for completeness the famous (infamous) 24th (22 production plus prototype) machine in CIE black and orange. It could even be named -Finton O'Napier- the Irish engineer , a Quiet Man whose career was on the Wayne, who allegedly came up with the idea for the delta engine (and a horse tram too) but was forced to sell it for tuppence to the English (Electric). Could be a winner, go on...go on...etc
  6. On page 480 of this isse, the compact layout Abbots Morton is featured. The station building is described as 'a commercial item from Hornby Skaledale'. Not sure that it was originally a station building . Does anyone know its ctual provenance ? its original Hornby catalogue number?
  7. Does anyone know how much this programme cost, and who exactly paid the bills? The role played by Mirlees in this is not clear from what I have read. Presumably derating - like the class 47- was out of the question as it would have resulted in a heavy expensive machine, little better than a class 20. English Electric looked like the winners in this , though they had just lost out badly in the Standard Type 4 stakes to Brush and Sulzer.
  8. We can only hope that you dont have to remotor all 263 like the prototype did...
  9. Will the new 14s be free of the mechanical (sloppy chassis) and electrical (fitting DCC) issues that were an unfortunate feature of the 2 that I had to return to Hattons??
  10. I would love AS to do an early Metrovick Co-Bo with the early wrap around windows, No livery variations possible ( a bogus CIE?) but a nice link up with their Irish Crossley machines. Smoke units would be de rigeur of course, and an ear splitting sound chip...lovely
  11. Love the simple track plan, and its very smart presentation. Which Skaledale model is the station building though? Is it a conversion from another Hornby building?
  12. BR's Chief Mechanical Engineer J.F. Harrison disliked 'nose ends' on diesel locos, and also believed that high speed engines 1500 rpm of more to be 'unsuitable' for rail applications, and was a strong supporter of the Brush/Sulzer combination that gave us the class 47. He retired in 1966, so the HST may not have seen the light of day had he been in post, possibly.
  13. Think it caught fire at Manchester Central......
  14. Was this corner building also Walthers? dont recognise it. Love what you have done so far!
  15. You must keep it as it is a very rare model of the hush hush midi deltic that EE thought would fill the gap between baby deltics and fully grown ones. A class Turdy Six possibly...
  16. Why stop at locos, as there are a few shunters that would be nice, the obvious one being the class 06 shunter plus the class 01 and the NB D2700 series shunters. The class 14 was not Heljans finest hour either....
  17. I have got one of the original condion ones on preorder, but I believe that they will ALL sell-hear the purple one is now selling fast on pre-orders.
  18. I think that we should take this to 'the next level' -yes we need a Fintona Horse tram, which would run from the (Fintona) station to the goods shed to avoid the stress of the passing expresses to Cork
  19. The Hattons 66 was a fantastic model, but not really a 'train set engine'. Ftting couplings to both ends was way too complex for perhaps the average modeller. Mine has always run OK but has to be driven carefully when going through Peco small radius pointwork, tho not tried it on Rad 2 curves.
  20. Alan, St Enodoc Many thanks, I will give it a try! Paul
  21. Alan I agree with your comments about the model, and my DC version runs very sweetly indeed - but how did you remove the coaching roundel on the cabside without damaging the paintwork ?
  22. The class 37 version that I would like to see from Accurascle is the plain BR blue, centre headcode, and roof mounted horns with TOPS numbers. This was the livery that most of the centre headcode locos carried for virtually all of the 1970's and 1980's (Scottish machines excepted), until the sector liveries came along of course. I am guessing that the Accurascale people have this one in mind for a second release?
  23. Just to add what was was said about Chris Ellis previously, although he showed you did not need circles-he did find 2 examples on the prototype. One was in the New York Harbour district railway system and the other in London at the PLA around Milwall. He encouraged people not just to have a go ,but also to try US and Euro layouts too. The Fairweather branch in MTI 114 and Scale Model Trains September 1993 , inspired me to try US modelling. I emerged from Victors in Pentonville Road in1994 armed with a layout in a shopping bag (except for the track bought later). This layout is for me one of the best micro layouts and its track plan is an object lesson in small layout building. RM webbers should try and look it up.
  24. I had a card from Chris at Xmas. He is wheelchair bound when he leaves the house and does have 2 + layouts for entertainment. He was 'quietly influential' in the hobby and his projects and approach were very practical and down to earth. For many modellers , myself included, he showed that you dont need a big space or a big budget to enjoy our hobby. Neither do you have trains that run around in circles. Micro layouts , Inglenooks and the like were being advocated (and built) in ST/MTI years before the larger glossier mags began to actively them. His ideas seem very relevant to the current climate of rising prices. May he have a long and happy retirement.
  25. Yes many of his journeys were in the 150xx series and of those many in class 158 - a budget inter city train if there was ever one.
