  1. Great news, roll on DP2 and the prototype (DP1- tho no-one used that term at the time)
  2. The green on the BR one looks very dull and flat, the same affliction that their class 22 diesels suffered from. Wont be paying £130 ish quid for something that needs a repaint. The silkier green finish used by Bachmann on the other hand looks spot on. Is there a cab side window version to come ? -apologies if this has been raised before.
  3. Noticed in one of the mags Steam World possibly, a USA tank at Eastleigh taken in 1967, towing a rake of (old style) containers, with no apparent guards brake at the rear. Seem to recall also seeing WR fitted freights in Devon around 1966 with no brake vans either. Is my memory playing tricks on me?
  4. Very good show put on here, as usual, with a reasonable number of traders and a good variety of layouts to meet various interests. There was a good atmoshere, with both traders and exhibitors seemed friendly and willing to chat today when I was there. The catering could be better but the HG&DMRS members seem well aware of the problems and I am sure that they are on the case. Paul
  5. Dava many thanks will check them out Paul
  6. Has anyone sourced the correct style of number transfers for the Heljan 05 ? The usual pre-tops numerals don't really look right on this loco. I am thinking of buying an unnnumbered one.
  7. Good odds on a GE class 70 -a massive modern loco; only 3 liveries tho- 'Turkish' (green), F/Liner, Colas. Sneaky feeling a class 22 as well.....
  8. We could yet see a class 22 in O gauge. Dapol have done this in OO and will have the cad etc., and they may-if they use conventional technology rather than the gee whizz hydro mechanical (?) transmission that LLc proposed-be able to sell them for a lot less than £550 plus on offer before. We live in hope
  9. Recieved today, many thanks Chris regards Paul
  10. Thanks Chris, I have emailed you as per instructions. Paul
  11. Rob D2 , your download idea I had not thought of , but I like hard copies; Jason I have a saved search for it on Ebay , where I saw one in Australia that was being offered for 7£ plus £18 postage! Will try Mags exchange; many thanks for your thoughts. Still hopeful that one of the (many) helpful souls on this forum/site will have one that escaped recycling....
  12. This issue was not available when I rang the Model Rail subs people who deal with back issues. The issue has to be complete and intact. Not too fussed about the odd mark or signature. Please PM me if you have a spare copy, if possible within the Uk as overseas postage makes it very expensive.
  13. Hello Alex, looks good, how did you source the backscene? own photos or proprietary product cheers Paul
  14. Many thanks 298.chilgarth. Yes the arrangement is similar to the old proto 2000 locos. Now greased and oiled (very lightly) , and running quite sweetly, they seem good value compared to other US/Canadian outline locos....
  15. Which of the above layouts have been published- Bleat Wharf is in the latest BRM-in Model Rail or RM? which issues?
  16. Has anyone done any servicing of these locos? If so, how exactly is the body removed to service the motor and drive train? Could not see any sign of screws from looking at the base of the chassis. The same question could be asked about their GP9 locos as well.
  17. There really is no way of knowing ALL the costs and ALL the benefits of all or even part the HS2 scheme as this is such a massive system change affecting large swathes of the country, and thats before we even get to trying to quantify them all. Or trying to quantify the negative effects of the areas 'left behind' by it. The conventional cost benefit tools are simply not adeqate for the job. Ironically it means that although a business case for it cannot be made, neither can a case for NOT doing it. Lets face it, HS2 is an act of FAITH that you believe or not. My guess is that BJ will kill most of it to secure his Tory areas and offer an 'HS3' type package for the North, so as to prevent electoral meltdown for his party up there
  18. I would be interested to see if anyone has found any 'Italian specfic' backscenes that can be used in HO Modelling. Urban scenes particularly, rather than picturesque Tuscan hills type scenes, would be good.
  19. Many thanks for that info Nick ; enjoyed all the photos too. I agree with your comments about liveries for the ME's. Who stocks the MCK model of the ME's then?
  20. Love the look of loco 1530; do some of these work passenger trains out of Copenhagen main station? looks like the ones I saw 3-4 years ago. Think that they were in dark blue though... Is the layout finished?
  21. Hello Pete . Not heard from you for a while...is this layout still progressing? Shaping up nicely too..
  22. A new route through the Pennines? in whose lifetime? Every green ,tree hugger and professional objectors will try to delay it. Would it not be greener and not lay waste to huge swathes of countryside and instead make the best of what we have? Besides no one seems to agree on what cities HS3 will serve. The PM says only Leeds and Manchester. What happened to Hull etc?
  23. Thanks for that, yes it is an unrebuilt pacific. The forthcoming LMSR Princess will be an interesting one as the rear truck on it is so prominent-and looks so wrong on the earlier Hornby ones, despite my comments above regarding preferences . Perhaps giving modellers the option would be better...
  24. One of Hornby's R3638, WC No 34019 Bideford, arrived at my door yesterday, and has the swivelling/flanged wheel rear pony truck. After many years (10-12?) of 'fixed pony truck with flangeless wheel' approach on pacifics, is this now to become a general feature on other 4-6-2's in the range? I must say this is to my personal preference. Overall though the approach used by Bachmann on their A1's -of a fixed rear bogie sideframe with the wheel turning within it, seems to have the best of both worlds.
