  1. What is striking in all of MPs programs is how nice, modern and comfortable trains in Spain , Italy and ireland look in contrast to the ironing board seats found on trains in the UK. Yes, the hideous Pacers from his early shows have gone but the current IEP sets were specified by the DfT, and it shows,
  2. The loco 10800 was the classic case of lessons ignored! You could argue 10000/1 were also similar- but they were a solid performing engines- but we still ended up with 1co co 1 monsters that were little better than a Royal Scot.
  3. How about a class 06 shunter as the Hornby one is more railroad than serious model. Also some of the North British shunters in the D27XX range ?
  4. The early class 28 Metrovicks with wrap around windows for starters.
  5. As its no longer a Hattons 'Exclusive' I guess it may reach a bigger market? Agree with Phils comments, is this from Heljan or Ben ?
  6. In O gauge it could be a class 22 diesel which goes with their other WR locos, as well as preempting any movement from Dapol who have done it in OO and N gauge. Nice and short too, ideal for the small layouts. Come on Heljan you know you want to...
  7. Loved the photos, but also found the captions informative as well. In particular the way that freight traffic into Devon and Cornwall declined so sharply in the 1960's which accelerated the demise of the early hydraulic machines. This decline was of course reflected elsewhere , hence why all those modernisation plan marshalling yards at Carlisle , Tees , Perth et al, were such costly white elephants.
  8. I always thought 'modern image' was a term coined by steam era modellers ( in certain magazines) to denote a 'non steam model railway'. Seems a far too general and dated term nowadays to be of any value.
  9. Sadly I have to agree with MMRS. Had the show actually been staged , I would not have attended as there is still too much of the covid around for safety. Well done for a tough and correct decision
  10. BR did want and did compile a rolling program of electrification around 1980; by then however the Treasury had developed a major distrust of BR's Modrnisation Plan investment choices - underpowered and unreliable diesels, expensive marshalling yards that remained stubbornly empty - that offered a poor return for the taxpayers money.
  11. I wasnt sure where to put this video but it should be compulsory viewing for the range of types
  12. Maybe the box should be a pinky red candy stripe colour, as its 2 rail. Or for the future even do a metrovick class 28 with original wrapround windows....oooo
  13. The Italian company ACME do a nice HO model of the Whitcombs in FS colours of the prototypes that served FS for many years. Saw some in Palermo in 2003, lovely engines, quite 'archaic ' looking , but in a nice way of course. Good luck with your project.
  14. It seems to be very difficult sourcing these nowadays. Ideally I would like a smallish loco - GP35 or GP38-2- but there seems to be little available that isnt 3 rail or sound equipped . Ebay shows up little. I would like a DC 2 rail loco so I can multimode (thanks Chris Ellis) on my existing UK shelf layout-10'x18". Anyone know of any source? Would consider second hand
  15. A good 'companion' to the forthcoming Manor class would be an Auto tank 14xx loco in 4mm. The two previous attempts at this class have well known problems/limitations, and EFE will not rework the DJ one as its owned by Hattons. One of the signature ex-GWR locos without a top class model to represent it, this would surely be a popular choice.
  16. It would be great if they did the ealier Scottish ones D5347-D5369 with their recess for the tablet catcher , and of course a version of it minus the yellow warning panel (as delivered)
  17. Will the model come with number transfers like the class 15 from LLC? the 14 's had a font type unique to BR diesel classes (possibly) -grotesque.
  18. In one respect the Hornby one looks better to me, in that the distance between the top of the front windows and the edge of the roof looks more convincing than on the Heljan one. Hornby did a fine job on the 86 back in the day.
  19. My class 17 arrived 2 days ago and it is a lovely runner and full marks to Heljan for really capturing the look of the prototype. The only wrinkle is that the fans dont seem to work; all the wires are connected up and the lights work fine. Anyone else sen this lttle problem?
  20. The custard part of the blood and custard on the BR ones looks decidedly more yellow rather than cream. Think the blood needs to be a shade darker too.
  21. Interesting that in 2 of the major monthly modelling magazines, reviews of this loco make no mention of the lighting and its functions that work, ( or don't work in the case of the marker lights)functionality. This was one of the two major reasons for retooling by Bachamann ,the other being that the old tooling was, well, old.
  22. To go with the (always popular even with us English folk) ScR theme of 05, 17, 20,26, and 27 (forthcoming), surely a class 06 would be perfect. So how about it Mr Jones??
  23. I will follow with interest, the low relief station building looks nice...is it scratch built or ready to plant?
  24. Given the popularity of these faux Dublo models, I would think that a Maroon 46245, maybe even with a red/pink candystripe box-appropriate for 2 rail locos- would be a winner.
