  1. There's some good bargains currently on Hatton's site e.g. https://www.hattons.co.uk/164277/hornby_r6727_horse_box_42489_in_lms_maroon/stockdetail.aspx https://www.hattons.co.uk/stocklist/1000389/1000636/hornby_coaches/bargain_list.aspx
  2. I thought DJM had a batch of duff runners that he was trying to punt out at shows. Maybe the liquidators have some old stock they would sell off? I'be happy to give them a tenner for a spare body.
  3. The bogies for the O-33 are now finished. I did managed to distort the frames again but this time a bit of filing to the backs of the casting and tweaking the frames back to shape with pliers resulted in square sides. They were given a shot grey etch primer followed by a coat of Phoenix dirty black. The wheels were painted with Revell 84 Leather. At his point I was thinking all that was required was a dirty wash to finish them off. However something was bugging me. I turned to my copy of J.H. Russell's Great Western Coaches and there it was staring me in the face, the blue paint on the axleboxes and bolster hangers! I didn't think I had anything suitable, it's not a colour of paint I have bought, but I then remembered my brother had given me a few old tinlets of paint he'd had in the garage for years that I'd put to one side thinking they'd not be of any use. Amongst them was a tin of Humbrol 48 Mediterranean Blue which turned out to perfect. After painting the axleboxes, the edges of the steps where dry brushed with some airframe silver and metalcote and given a little buffing with a cotton bud. Finally a wash of matt black and Humbrol 62 Leather was applied all over the bogies and wheel faces. I probably should have done the backs of the wheels too, maybe another night. Close up of one of the bogies.
  4. My workshop is heavy duty 2x3 framing and has a tongue and groove roof, not flimsy OSB. I didn't actually torch the the felt to the roof, I just did the seams between each sheet. I picked it on seeing a video of some guy using it to re-felt a similar outbuilding and seeing how tough it is compared to shed paper felt.
  5. I used SBS torch on felt for my workshop when it needed replacing. The old felt had dried out, shrunk and got loads of holes appearing all over it. Shed felt is pretty useless IMO, the SBS stuff is way tougher, it doesn't rip like the normal felt does. I was able to use a normal blow torch to join the seams. Example: https://www.jjroofingsupplies.co.uk/bystrotorch-mineral-sbs-torch-on-roofing-felt-8757/
  6. Don't know why the VPN didn't work, but have you thought of using TOR browser? https://www.torproject.org/download/ It goes through multiple hops to hide your IP, never had any problems with it.
  7. You jest, I know of certain racers who used depleted uranium to bring their vehicle up to minimum class spec weight. Could actually be tungsten.
  8. I've tried both Klear and PVA methods and didn't really see much of a difference, apart from PVA being much cheaper. Both dry solid, flowed the same when wet. Couldn't see what the fuss was about, I think it was just a fad with the "miracle liquid" at the time, trying to find as many uses as possible for it.
  9. 8 years late, but yes, it was the Dickies, along with their 90mph covers of Banana Splits, Sound of Silence, Paranoid and Silent Night amongst others.
  10. I haven't heard Gun covering Baker Street, but the Foo Fighters version puts a great twist on the original.
  11. That is superb work. How did you get the oily effect on the axle boxes?
  12. Phew, that was a close shave for Mr Thomas, how fortuitous to find a lady of such standing having a keen interest in brake design. I thought the poor chap was about to be bowled a googly by her commenting on how she much preferred a large lever, "...afterall, Mr Thomas, there is so much more to wrap one's dainty hands around when giving it a hefty tug" I thought that might be the deviant cad spying on them from behind the goods shed in the pic 5th from the bottom, however reading through a second time he hilariously pops up in other pics and I realised it was non other than Mr Finkerbury himself. Fantastic story telling as ever, Mikkel, and some great shots of your modelling again. Bring on part 2!

With all the trash talk against Monaco, here's an interesting article on why modern circuits are considered dull. https://thejudge13.com/2015/04/20/how-modern-circuit-layout-affect-racing/
  14. Games Workshop do a product which sounds similar to Mr Surfacer - Liquid Green Stuff. It's water based and easy to paint on, works very well for gap filling and removing blemishes.

I would presume the fact that Monaco is notoriously difficult to pass at. Dan Ricardo won last year with a car 160bhp down on power and only 6 of 8 gears available. Strategic placing of the car was enough to stop people passing. Same with Lewis this year. On other tracks with more overtaking opportunities, Max would no doubt have passed him easily (rather than making silly last minute lunges).

You were correct about Tilke being involved; https://f1i.com/news/341680-rio-unveils-future-brazilian-gp-track-layout.html
  17. It's BE. The B means is a 4000 Series B chip and it's got buffered outputs to the gates (as opposed to a CD4001UB which would be unbuffered). I think the E denotes the package type, in this case 14 pin DIL. The "CD" prefix historically denotes it's an RCA part, although other manufacturers (e.g. TI) also use this prefix.
  18. Quaryscapes on this forum also does etched number plates. http://www.coastlinemodels.co.uk/etched-number-plates/

A big loss to the sport, RIP Nikki Lauda, a true racing legend.
  20. The buffers housings are square but the shanks themselves are round on these.
  21. Looks like the URL has been hijacked.
  22. Just noticed SE2 Remastered was available this afternoon and started the download. Will be firing it up in a moment to try it out!
  23. Maybe he could order online for home delivery? He'd need to give the driver a hefty tip though.
