Very pretty - methinks some tarting up is required although I did use SE Finecast windows.... will change the wheel sets and crack on with sprucing it up. Can't afford an NRM one...

I feel there's a market out there for decent AC electrics.
Bachmann's 85 is totally superb, but we have no readily available catenary to run it under. Dapol's masts are lovely, but no wires available yet.
Such a shame Heljan made a b***s up of their 86. Could have been a great seller - think of all the liveries the class has carried over the years. Class 90's would be the same.
Come on manufacturers - give us new Class 86, 87 and 90. You know it makes sense! After all there are not many more D&E classes to do!!
Not sure that the AC Electrics are too popular. I have a Bachmann 85 in Electric Blue but I will probably never manage to build a layout with Overhead fitted

Somewhere I've still got an unpainted Liliput AL1 body (Dapol flogged them off years ago) and all the bits to make it go. Not sure that I shall ever get round to it though..
What happened to the PW hut I built for Hartford? Gone with the wind I guess.
No its on Middleton Woods with Mr Ross - it was just right for one of the huts beside the tram lines..

Yes I think its time to give Puddleglum a bit of TLC and do some repairs and a new coat of paint!

I would agree Penguin. But I wonder if some of the weathering we see makes any reference to in service vehicle photos? It appears that some people prefer "over the top weathering" to something which looks like the real thing. Keep on weathering Eric and Gripper!

DonW - yes I used the same just a smaller amount of weathering powder and a much smaller brush to dribble some dirt along teh top of the boiler on the N gauge compared to the O gauge wagon
-
Don't drop it on your foot Barry. Am I right in thinking that the K's kit also allowed you to build the version with the straight frames and running plate?
No it would hurt and not sure about the options as I didn't build it and it was a long time ago...

You've got to be brave to expect the HP2M to power something that heavy...
well it pulls itself but that's it!

if you need any help PM me.
The gentleman who owns (and provided the photograph Ian Morris) uses dry brushing and wanted to see how my weathering compared to his - they seem to work OK in this scale - I will stick to the ink method if I am working on clients locos and stock.

Thanks gents - perhaps one day it may have a trundle on Cwmafon....
And I have remembered why it was built*
My father built this for my late brother in law who was born and raised in Ledbury where he spent some time on the Banking engines there as a boy before joining up.When he dies my sister gave it back to me

* or rather her indoors remembered for me.

Yes its very balanced - even more so than the ex Great Central Q1 0-8-0 T

I bet they looked impressive in crimson, puts the boring green GWR tanks to shame
Better still if ever I had had the courage to paint it in G&SWR colours.. and very close to the later Tilbury Baltics..
-
Only ever seen one other model of one of these engines - built by Mike Edge - they really were workmanlike but beautiful.
-
What I should have mentioned is that I modified the DJH kits to bring the cylinders in closer to the frames - for some reason DJH add bits to teh cylinders to make them overwide - its simply a case of cutting back the whitemetal to the marks on the cylinder casting..

please start working in N gauge, I have many LMS loco's I would love to see produced,
been there gave up - but I wouldn't worry as the way things are going you will have your wishes granted...

twa_dogs
your request:
Please build the following - J21, j25, G5, A5, A8, K1 and Q6.
J21 - yep Nucast built
J25 no but would like one (so I have two J27s as well both Nucast)
G5 - yep - Nucast
A5 - yep - dad scratchbuilt one in plasticard ( but I wonder where it is??)
A8 - nope but would like one
K1 - nope but would like one
Q6 - yep - Nucast
As you can see I have tried but obviously Bill Stott hit the nail on the head when he designed his kits - maybe Hornby and Bachmann have missed out big time but I think they believe all LNER/BR(NE) modellers live in the North east and are skint....

I agree - although I believe that in terms of pulling power the DJH kits are far in advance of the latest Bachmann and Hornby offerings. With the way they are built I wonder about the durability of the chassis/derive trains of the RTR locos... hence i have a DJH A1 kit to build bought off ebay for a very good price...

Truffy
never used the Humbrol powders (we haven't anywhere here in Leeds I can buy them) but the Greenscene and Carrs one work.
I do use the ink/water wash on coaches - an example is on my website and yes it does exactly what you say. It can be used to highlight the door openings as well.

Apologies i should know better as I have one of both...
-
Yep the J21 is very nice - shame the one at Locomotion is in such a state - hope they get the funding to get it back into pristine condition..
-
I need to find the Baltic tank and photograph it - it is an impressive beats though
-
Yep - he also made a lot of locos in Plasticard including a Furness Baltic tank, a GSWR Baltic tank and various Caledonian locos - one of which will be in the next blog input(!)
-
Not sure why he built it but it may find a home on a new Southern Region layout at Leeds Club.

That may be a while in happening..
Still got a Dakota I built 40 odd years ago but very little in the way of Airfix railway models from that era
