  2. Just assembled the best type of locomotive - a dirt cheap one out of bits from the scrap box. Bachmann class 24 5087 in BR blue rides again!

Jolly good show A bit of caring and repairing goes a long way!

  3. I got the only one that was in the Asda in Queensferry. It looks to be a reasonable model and the coach is very nice. I can see these selling pretty well just for the novelty value alone, so expect them to sell out quicker than some of the previous ones have. I'm going to have a go at putting proper wheels into my coach as per the excellent suggestion a few posts up.
  4. When first announced I seem to recall the end of last year being hoped for. Certainly this is a long overdue Christmas present to myself. Maybe it'll get here in time for my birthday instead.
  5. Quite a few years ago now when my other half was doing an Open University course, we found a note from RM through the door saying "Parcel left in wheelie bin". It rather beggered belief, as what sane person would put a parcel in with the rubbish. It was bin day, and the bin was out because it was being emptied. The parcel must have gone in the bin lorry and it contained all of the textbooks for my partner's degree course. When I called RM, they tried to claim that they would never leave a parcel in a bin, despite me having the written note to prove that they had. My partner scanned and sent the card to OU, and I assume that they bent RM over and raised hell. Replacement books came out with an alternative courier the following day.
  6. The previous Bachmann/Mainline 03 has a different motor arrangement to the Bachmann 04. If you dismantle the 04's split chassis, the motor comes out loose and may be a match for other Bachmann split chassis type locomotives making tracking a replacement easier? I never had much luck with either types, and gave away my three older style Bachmann 03s to my nephew when the new tooled Bachmann model came on the market - never regretted it, though the old BR blue 03 has been known to turn back up here for running sessions in the shed as my nephew really likes it. I find that it seems to need a little warming up before it responds best from the controller. No idea why this might be.
  7. Is the containerbase closing? The track on the other side of Park way appears to still be there, so it just appears to be the track on the inside of the containerbase. Streetview still shows a lot of containers at the site - July 2014 is the date on the images so has anyone been and looked more recently?
  8. Asda in Astley Bridge, Bolton has one of the GBL C classes in their magazine section as of earlier today if anyone is interested. I didn't get it as I have all three of the Bachmann C classes that have been done in SECR livery.
  9. Unfortunately the only way to do it would be to buy it then raise a claim with Ebay for goods not being as described. Hopefully the ultimate buyer will do that, as listing it as a yet to be released model when it is not is quite out or order.

    Mk1 Horsebox

Five (two as original, three in varying degrees of conversion after departmental use) plus underframes of two more. Thanks!

    Mk1 Horsebox

Thread necromancy! Just a couple of quick questions: How many of these horseboxes actually survive? I can find reference to only two in original condition, but wondered about any others of the departmental converts that might still lurk on preserved lines? How much did their external appearance change when converted to such things as generator vans?
  12. The prices seem extremely keen, and I for one am contemplating switching from Hornby to Oxfordrail for this model. I just hope that they will consider doing one in LSWR livery.
  13. I might have looked like this, but wasn't really a trainspotter. I have, however, seen a picture of a rather shy Father aged around 7 dressed in the obligatory fifties school uniform with shorts and a cap leaving for school at Pocklington.
  14. Spending too much time on Ebay because I'm off work ill. Just bought the Bachmann N class set with the southern and SECR liveried locos, along with some clothes (not from the same seller). It's only money....

  15. Lidl in Astley Bridge is all sold out. Went looking because my Father wanted a couple for putting Hornby Dublo in. He might have to wait until next year now.
  16. Viral inner ear infection that means I cannot drive for several weeks because of dizziness. You don't realise how useful a car is until you can't use it.

That's odd, Mr Dubya, you look just like a well-known traction engine driver...

Hope you get well soon, Jenny, by the way, I know someone who had something similar, my sympathies.

Sorry, Just realised that I deleted my original reply to Jenny inadvertently, so none of my babbling makes sense (if it ever did). I am a natural blonde after all.

      Get well soon Jenny.

  17. I suppose the risk is that they saturated the market last time, as there's only so much space on the nation's walls! I have yet to see any Lidl around here stocking the big ones though.
  18. Going back to the original picture, I'm always curious how that road crossing still has tracks embedded in the road, given that no other trace of the line still seems to remain. I just had a look on Google maps and it still appears to be there.
  19. I was going to buy the Railway Children Bachmann set, but instead my car decided to seize two calipers and cost me

  20. Lots of small ones at the Lidl in Bolton. I bought two, and there were still around ten left. They are ever so slightly different from last year's with a much better magnetic clip to keep the door shut. I found predrilling the pilot hole in the door for the metal plate with one of the small screws worked far better than trying to hammer it in as per the instructions as I felt that risked cracking the glass.
  21. On the former GCR there is a rail over rail bridge that survives alongside the M1 between junctions 20 and 21. It can be seen during the winter months when the leaves are off the trees. The rail route that went under was closed before the M1 was built.
  22. The A4 'Sir Nigel Gresley' was blue, and the electric did appear from Hornby-Dublo, but are pretty rare.
  23. There were a few class 04s that ended up being exported to Italy. I think at least one was working until a number of years ago and was unique in being the only surviving 04 at the time that had carried Rail Blue whilst owned by BR. The Heritage shunters people in Rowsley had an appeal for a while to raise the money to repatriate it but I don't know what happened to the appeal or the loco.
  24. Buying a bottle of wine then dropping it in the supermarket and smashing it within five minutes flat set the tone of today. Bah!
