  1. Not to forget being buqqered with a red hot poker.
  2. She's more likely having a laugh telling her mates about it.
  3. Didn't that feature in 'Von Ryan's Express'? The bit where they passed through a marshalling yard during an air raid.
  4. What if Gresley had lived and become CME instead of Riddles?
  5. The W&U coach was originally to be with the Toad brake van but its now being offered as a stand alone item. Yes it is the film version but I understand it is to be produced in GER, LNER and BR(E) versions or that was what was originally planned.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I have worn nothing but jeans since I retired 14 years ago. I was required to dress 'smart' at work and its a sort rebellion. I do have a pair of normal trousers but I've only worn them once, I had to get them quick for a funeral earlier this year when I found that my old work trousers would no longer fit. For about the last five years when I was working it was no longer a requirement to wear a tie, something I took full advantage off. It came about because of equalities (female staff were not required to wear ties). Well that was the official reason, many of us had stopped wearing ties as a protest after a colleague was assaulted, the assailant had grabbed his tie and immobilised him. That is why when a tie was part of police uniforms the ties were of the clip on variety.
  7. It depends on the car and whether you are carrying a load. My car is quite heavy, when I have passengers the drop off in performance is noticeable. The bottom line is the car is underpowered. I do start with the windows open to clear the hot air before I switch the air con on until it has cooled down the interior. Then I switch it off and switch to recirculate until I need to put the air con back on again.
  8. If you only pay less than half the price for petrol than the UK you can use the air-con more. That with the engine being only just over one litre in size using air-con increases fuel consumption by 25%.
  9. Armstrong Whitworth built just such DEMU and it was placed in service by the LNER. The engine generator unit was fitted under the floor.
  10. I have a 'paperless' licence and I would be hard put to find a number. Its possible that they check automatically from your e-mail address.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The sciatica has been around for most of the day but laying stretched out on the bed for a couple of hours seems to have helped. I will have to check to see if the two local events that I intend going to on Sunday are still happening. First (AM) is the Rayleigh toy fair and the other (PM) is at the Castle Point transport museum on Canvey.
  12. Hello again from Estuary-Land. Car all serviced and MoT'd and afterwards I nipped down to Tess Coes for enough food to last until Wednesday, mostly cold meats and salad and plenty of cold drinks, I haven't touched the Chimay yet but it won't be long. Nice to have the air con working in the car, its a necessity at the moment but fortunately the current hot weather will cease with a bang Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Several bangs in fact and with lightening as well. Also according to the local forecast locally it will be cooler than most of the South East by about three degrees, the advantage of living close to the water.
  13. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The car is being serviced and MoT'd right now. The only 'extra' is the tyre valves on the rear needed replacing. I'd asked them to check the air-con and it does need re-gassing so I've asked for that to be done as well. I will try to avoid using the air-con as it knocks the fuel consumption for six but over the coming days it will probably be essential.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Got to take the car in for its MOT and annual service today, the service centre just called and asked me to get the car in early so I will do that shortly. Si Attica caught me by surprise this morning just as I was getting dressed, as soon as I've dropped the car off I'll be having a lie down.
  15. Here's the info on Chimay. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimay_Brewery They also feed their milking cattle on the used grains from the brewery and turn the milk into cheese.
  16. I have an electric mower and rule number one is not only switch off but pull the plug from the socket before cleaning and maintenance.
  17. Fred died of cancer and I understand he turned down chemo treatment that might have prolonged his life. No criticism having seen some of the side effects of chemo I can understand it.
