  1. Fred died of cancer and I understand he turned down chemo treatment that might have prolonged his life. No criticism having seen some of the side effects of chemo I can understand it.
  2. There is an enormous difference between different Trappist beers and of course preferences are personal. You have to try several before you find one that suits your palate. I have a couple of bottles of Rochefort that I found a bit too bitter for my taste so they are going spare.
  3. Just been watching the program on the Webb telescope. Its amazing to think that we can see what was happening before our solar system even existed. Space is that large that even light has taken that immense time to reach us.
  4. Hillman Super Minx estate, pretty rare nowadays. Ford Rostyle wheels, a common update on Rootes group cars as they used the same stud pattern.
  5. A colleague of mine always insisted on putting great big dollops of tomato ketchup on his food, even one time on a roast beef dinner. If baked beans are the spawn of the devil tomato ketchup must be what comes out of his other end.
  6. They had a (very small) olive tree for sale in the reduced section of Tess Coes, nothing wrong with the tree itself but the pot it was in was damaged. I was tempted but when I went back for a second look someone else had nabbed it.
  7. I use a pad and IPA (not the beer).
  8. As the prototype can be driven from trackside by remote control an orange clad figure holding a remote control will save you having to add a driver figure.
  9. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. All this talk of very expensive items reminded me that tomorrow nights Euromillions jackpot stands at 200 million £'s, I usually have a little flutter if it rolls over a few times so this time it might be a big flutter. Thanks for that but I still have seven bottles left and at the rate that I drink them they may well outlast me. Interesting that they are contemplating opening a Belgian beer bar which I assume will be in Bury St. Edmunds, not that far for me to travel, but not by car if I wish to savour the beers on offer.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. @AndrewC My preferred Chimay is the cream label, only down side is that you have to go to Belgium to get it. I was introduced to Trappist beer about 40 years ago when I went to spend a Christmas in Ostend. When we walked into the hotel I was surprised to meet two friends of mine sitting in the bar drinking Trappist! My dad asked them what was a good beer to drink and they suggested the Trappist which the hotel had on draught. It was only after a few glasses that I realised how strong it was. The draught beer was an amber beer as is the cream label Chimay but Trappist comes in a variety of styles from a pale lager type to a dark beer like a stout. You are lucky to find one that suits your palate, there are so many varieties of Trappist, the supermarket in Ostend where I bought mine had an entire aisle devoted to Trappist beers.
  11. This was on the 'Wacky Signs' thread but I'll just leave it here.
  12. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still showing 18C. on the thingummy at the bottom of the screen. Better than last night when it didn't drop below 21. Been trying to get through Farcebook, why do they make it so difficult to use? Most groups had the posts 'Newest first' now they are 'Most relevant', relevant to what?
  13. I very rarely touch alcoholic drinks nowadays but I've put a couple of the Trappist beers in the fridge to chill. The name on the bottles is Chimay. Like most bottle fermented beers it has to be decanted into the glass carefully as if you consume any of the yeast at the bottom of the bottle you'll spend the rest of the evening sat on the loo.
  14. I ordered some and they arrived yesterday, two medium and two small. Having a bit of a problem stacking them as the magnets are quite powerful. You put one box on top of another and it shoots off.
  15. According to the thingy its 20C. now but it feels a lot warmer.
  16. The moon is closest to the Earth at the moment as well.
  17. FYI for the star gazers out there tonights full moon is the 'buck' moon and it is at its closest to the earth.
  18. I heard a bird call this morning the urgency of which sounded like a warning call. It was a loud and strident chirping that went on for a couple of minutes. There are dozens of juvenile smaller birds around here at the moment, and plenty of predators, foxes, sparrowhawks, magpies and gulls. I've no idea what bird was making the call but it was a chirp-chirp-chirp sound.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I had a brain f@rt this morning and put the bin bags out a day early. Needless to say the foxes ripped the black bag open even though there was only a bit of greasy paper to interest them. I've put the bag in a new black bag ready for tomorrow morning. Back in the nineties and early noughties I used to make several visits to Manchester but don't recall the weather being particularly wet though on a couple of occasions there was snow. This was where I stayed. It was run as a training centre by the GMB union back then but is now an Islamic centre.
  20. Weather forecast is rising temperatures (high 30's) until Tuesday then a sudden drop of about ten degrees and rain. Probably be a lot of thunder and lightening, we certainly need it.
  21. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had a good nights sleep last night despite the heat and mugginess. You should read the labels properly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3GDDEL1SC1QQ5
