  2. If you want someone else to do the planning. amongst other companies that will create a bespoke package for you. https://www.greatrail.com/tailormade/ Just make sure you have slack in train transfer times and can move quickly for late platform changes, DB was not at its best last year when we passed through to/from Austria.
  3. Northampton Castle Station Bridges at both ends, dependent on period trams on one bridge River one side of station & could make goods yard part of backscene if did not want to model all of Goods Yard 3 through platforms plus bays Bottom picture should be at top
  4. When I was in quarters (in 1980's). the meter was at the rear of the property in its own brick built enclosure, with a large label stating "ELECTRICITY METER INSIDE", read for 5 years then, 5 years of estimated bills, until I moved out and gave them directions to it for final reading.
  5. Was told by my English Teacher that the use of "mutton" in the English Language to describe a bit of a dead sheep came about as the Normans used it at table where it was a bit of cooked meat.
  6. In Swindon some years ago several people "extended" their gardens onto railway land alongside the GWR main line. Eventually someone "found" a signalling cable with the inevertal result.
  7. When branded as Hermes, I had a booked collection for Monday, local courier phoned and collected on Sunday, day earlier, then the parcel did not enter the tracking system for 6 days.
  8. No credit for the picture below, it was placed in this thread a long time ago.
  9. And to bring the thread back on track This "rare" item is available if you wish to lose £3.00 Rare 50p Only 4.9 million dropped into Post Offices 10 days ago
  10. I seem to recall being told that Pendon had to redo the canal alignment on the Vale scene when they realised a canal boat could not navigate it, even though it was the 1930's and the canal represented (Wilts & Berks) was abandoned since 1914.
  11. Is this a plot to unload vast stocks held at the sheepfold on eBay at premium pricing to finance the next layout(s)?
  12. The top picture has been created by combining the track layout from the picture I referenced as 3 in the Oakwood Press book, with the "now" picture on that website. The lower picture is the one I referenced as 1 in the same book. See also the Signalling Record Society 1930's box diagram, SRS - Cockley Brake Signal Box Diagram lack of lever numbers against them, suggests fixed distant signals were used.
  13. The Oakwood Press book (no 78) "The Northampton & Banbury Junction Railway" - author Stanley C. Jenkins has 3 pictures of Cockley Brake Junction. 1. Shows the 1922 Signal Box 2. Dated 1930's - shows the Signal Box with signals in the positions you have shown at left of your lower drawing identified as LNWR Lower Quadrant, the junction splitting home signal being on a bracket with each signal at same height. 3. Again dated 1930,s - shows the signals at the junction entry, noting that the N&BJR line has a standard LNWR Lower Quadrant semaphore, but the Buckingham Line has a taller post fitted with a "modern" upper quadrant arm. Picture 3 also appears in Oxford Publishing Company book, "The Banbury to Verney Junction Branch" - author Bill Simpson with less captioning and another picture of the 1922 signal box.
  14. Fully signed off by Building Control (when Council run), also a few other contraventions, both previous owners including the one who had the extension built and the subsequent owner were listed in yellow pages as builders 🙂 Agree with comment (2" x 1" used to hold up a water tank)
  15. Situation I found in one house was that the extract fan exhausted directly into a void, in this case into space between ceiling and first floor, the builder did not bother to fit a outlet to a vent ! Builder who recently installed my kitchen, told me of a simmilr situation with a bathroom extractor fan exhausting in to roof space.
  16. Royal Mail management have a cunning plan to clear the backlog https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/12/16/bring-mum-work-save-christmas-royal-mail-urges-staff/
  17. Already reported in the Sheep side of RMWeb here
  18. Until the mid 80's Izal was still the only toilet paper in the Government Supplies Catalogue, with "Government Property" printed on every sheet. When it was decreed that Civil Servants could use a "soft" toilet tissue, we had vast stock of the hard stuff (about a pallet load) which had to be disposed of without a charge of "willful destruction of Government Property" being laid.
  19. For some images See website "Swindon's other railway" which has In section "A trip from Cheltenham to Cirencester in 1956" The Cheltenham to Southampton Terminus service is featured. Also a picture of "GWR Draycott Manor 7810" at Swindon Town station in section "Images from 12th June 1956 courtesy of Tom Smith" Quite a few other photos on site but not dated. Also the Middleton Press Book Country Railway Series - Swindon to Andover has picture (No 88) showing a April 1957 dated picture of 6349 on a Southampton Terminus to Cheltenham train at Savernake High Level.
  20. The Warren Branch is also featured in the PSL book "Complete Guide to Model Railways" (which is a compilation of the PSL Guides, the description being in "PSL Model Railway Guide No 5", "Operating your Layout"), with a description of an operating sequence and stock. Based on the Chicago and North Western, Chris Ellis's operating sequence includes Passenger operation with a "Scoot", (F7 plus a2 Bi-Level Coaches operated Push Pull). As F-UnitMad said designed to operate as end to end from A with all trains originating there and the 3 destinations for various trains, i.e. North Warren for local freight, Warren as a passenger terminus and local freight destination, plus mine traffic giving several train options.
