  1. Two adults in a 4+ bed detached and at home much of the time. 2051kWh for first 9 months of 2022. 4299kWh for 2021 when there were four of us and lots of baking being done. Near total use of LED lighting. Mainly high efficiency appliances including a variable temperature kettle but probably not the most efficient electric oven. Gas hob & combi boiler. Looking at your spreadsheet, Ian, the top two items leap out at me. The tumble drier has to be the first thing to look at - can you use it less or perhaps not dry clothes so thoroughly then hang them somewhere to finish drying? The chargers seem to be a high proportion of your consumption so I'd look at minimising their use and/or on-time. I'm at a loss though to suggest anything that isn't just nibbling at the edges in the hope that it adds up and you have already done many of the obvious things like efficient appliances and LED lighting.
  2. Sometimes black humour can be the best way to make a point. Another example from today's Sunday Times:

    EBay madness

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385125450329 "It ran six years ago on my layout and tries to run now but I believe it needs a good service." Presumably it ran straight off the end before falling to the floor? It seems that "a good service" now covers straightening, putting back missing wheels, stripping and re-painting, replacing the Letrasett with proper transfers and adding coal (what does he think it ran on?). All for around £1,000 which would go a long way to paying someone to build the still-available kit (just over £500). I agree it is "rare" though. Most of the Garretts put up for sale are in much better condition and you'd get three or four for the same price!
  4. On the 2-step verification screen where they ask you to enter the security code there is an option to have the code emailed to you. Assuming this works and you manage to sign in then click on "Help & Contact" at the top of the screen. Navigate to the appropriate part of the largely bleedin' obvious help information then scroll down to the bottom where you will find "Need more help?" and clicking on "Contact us" will bring up a chat session. A little persistence will get you a human agent who, in my experience, will be able to resolve your problem.
  5. That's reassuring. I thought I was missing a bit.

I don't think that hairstyle would suit you.
  7. First place I looked but I can't see any Tri-ang listed. The AnyRail website provides a similar list of predefined libraries. Incidentally, the only reason I looked at this was that it occurred to me that there might be a difference in this aspect between the free-download and purchased versions but there doesn't appear to be.

Here's an idea. A pigeon loft without birds plus baskets on one of the platforms and we can have hours of fun (?) trying to establish if the pigeons are in the baskets, inside the enclosed part of the aviary or en-route from some far flung release point. I know, I know, we shouldn't encourge him!
  9. I don't know what "Tri-ang TT-3 (type B)" is. Is it listed under a different name in AnyRail? I can only see: Tri-ang Standard Tri-ang Series 3 Tri-ang Series 4.

So there's a crate that no one knows the contents of and now you're considering an aviary with mystery birds. Only in Little Muddle!

An aviary. Are you sure? For a cage to recognisable as an aviary it would surely need birds and if one assumes typical aviary birds are small ones you're going to have to model things around 1mm in height. That sounds like quite a challenge, Kevin.
  12. Did you mean to quote my post, Stephen? Should it have been PhilJ W's original? I was merely mentioning my amusement regarding KalKat's interest in PhilJ W's post.

  14. Sad news yesterday. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/62919134 I always liked Eddie's style of commentary and his ability to interview French players in fluent French was an additional feature. Whilst pondering the above ti occurred to me that I cannot see who replaces people like him. There are a number of able assistants i.e. parts of the commentary team but no one stands out as a real lead commentator.
  15. I have to smile at the fact that as I write this only one person has clicked anything and that is KalKat who has chosen "interesting/thought provoking". 🙂

  17. I tried some crickets a few years ago that had been given a spicy seasoning and fried. They were rubbish. All shell and no flesh. Better than starving (especially if a swarm has just eaten your crops) but I can't see them catching on. I suppose they could be ground up and incorporated into a pan of stir fried vegetables as a useful protein.
  18. You are correct, but as Ukraine discovered there is little difference between a border with Russia and a border with Belarus.

  22. I hope Rob doesn't mind me butting in here. I built a couple of layouts using Lack shelves when our boys were younger and used PVA to stick some old fashioned insulation board to the top (the kind best described as very low density board which can be cut with a craft knife). I then covered this with lining paper which was painted with cheap brown emulsion. The result is a thin top into which channels can be cut and easily hidden. Here's a cropped image showing the end result.
