  1. I don't know which thread you are referring to Jeff and revealing which one it is risks opening one of those online arguments where words like elitism, snobbishness etc. get thrown around and which achieve nothing in the end. You have no idea what the mental ability of the modeller concerned is nor of their emotional stability. Perhaps the people giving positive feedback have guessed that this may be the best way to encourage in this particular case? You receive constructive criticism and suggestions relating to details that many people don't even model in the first place. That is likely to be because it has become clear that you strive for the highest standards and are clearly capable of achieving them. I'm sure we've all seen examples in the press (because that's the way they are) of a bloke who has a massive layout with trains going everywhere and which looks much like the kind of thing a 7 year old would aspire to with everything out of the box and no thought for dates or geography. Whilst our initial reaction might be to scoff, if you you pause for a moment you might think: so what, he's happy and surely it is better than spending every night in the pub drinking cheap lager and moaning about football? Each to their own. If you don't like a thread just ignore it. This is a hobby we do for fun. If someone else is having fun in a different way then so what? In your case: keep doing what you're doing. It is inspiring many of us. I can't see myself building dry stone walls out of individual 'stones' but that doesn't mean it won't lead to me doing better walls due to what I have seen on this thread.
  2. Does this help? "Anyrail is frustrating for flexi track as its difficcult to draw flexi to constant radius or to keep track centres constant" Drag a piece of flexi track to where you want it. Click on it once to select it. Click on curve flex up at the top and enter the angle and radius values you require. There is an add parallel flex option that allows you to set the distance (track centres). "... when you add bits it keeps changing ..." Select the piece(s) of track and glue them before connecting anything to the ends. Not perfect since you need to position the curved crossover first and work around it but at least it won't be affected each time you attach another piece of track to the ends.
  3. My first car was a 1.1L in that colour too. I ran it for three years and sold it for £50 more than I paid for it. Music via a portable radio cassette player either on the passenger seat or passenger footwell depending upon how hard I had to brake. My brother had a motorbike at the same time which had a larger engine.
  4. Herculaneum Dock and Caledonian Basin both feature lattice bridge sides (RMweb image restoration permitting). If the thread text doesn't reveal their sources, perhaps you could try asking the builders? There are probably others but those two layouts came to mind straightaway.
  5. So it's an English castle then? 🏹😉
  6. Excellent, Jeff. It gives a real sense of scale. The train looks small perched on the large viaduct which in turn is dwarfed by the landscape.
  7. I don't know. Someone (possibly Andy Farrell) once quipped that Wigan's game plan was to get the ball to Jason Robinson as quickly as possible and if he didn't score ask him why not.
  8. Some sound advice there. 🙂 However, I was thinking along different lines in terms of the ban. 😉 As far as vodka goes, and anything else for that matter, I stopped buying Russian goods years ago. I'll stop now as this is straying into politics and away from humour too.
  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61126391 How do we sign up to this deal? 🥸
  10. Ozzy claims to have written that song after his first meeting with a skinhead.

You're not going to start bombing crates now are you, just in case they contain buses destined for bridges?

Do you think the bus is hiding in a crate?
  13. You say the seller "has proof of posting to our address". I cannot see how the seller's claim would not be upheld if the parcel has not been delivered to the address on the receipt. Since the Post Office clerk isn't the one handling the claim I would still submit it if I were the seller. Can anybody think of another explanation? - Only that the seller isn't telling you the truth but as long as they are not asking you to cover the loss then this probably isn't the case. Perhaps as a regular eBay seller all you need to do is double check your posting receipt and take a photo of the parcel prior to dropping it off at the post office or courier? (Or even at the counter!)
  14. Yes, it reminds me of the parkland around stately homes where there are few weeds and all the grass is kept to a uniform height by herds of sheep.

  16. Or perhaps a Winsor & Newton pigment marker for a lot less?
  17. What are you going to stand on to operate the layout? The ceiling joists? In most loft spaces these are only designed to support the ceiling, a moderate amount of (well distributed) household storage plus sufficient margin for occasional access. I agree with Graham108's advice but only if you are intending to convert the loft properly. Unconverted, the loft is probably the least appropriate space in a house for a model railway. Draughty, dusty, too hot in summer, too cold in winter and difficult to access safely. Most people would be better off with a shed. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear Nev, but you did ask.
  18. We look forward to the new Met. Police uniforms.
  19. Licensed Wholesale Company. It does seem an unfortunate choice of initials.
  20. Ah, OK, apologies. It occurred to me that I could locate the T&Cs via my eBay Messages. This is the last one I received: Specific information about this Promotion What's it all about? Get 70% off variable percentage final value fees ("FVF") per listing in final value fees if the item sells and pay no insertion fee. A fixed order level fee of 30p and other fees, including any International fees, still apply. Promotion is valid for up to 100 listings on eBay. Listings must start during the promotional period. Listings can be auction-style or fixed price format. The promotion start and end dates are included in the email we send to invited sellers. Items must sell within the first listing period. Sounds good, where do I find the promotion and how do I sign up? You can take part in the promotion on eBay.co.uk. Eligible sellers will receive an email with the RSVP link to the offer. You must opt in to the promotion by clicking on this link before any of your 100 listings start. I don't suppose your item was relisted after failing to sell at the first attempt was it? If you have enough time to spare you could contact eBay via 'Help & Contact'. At the bottom of the 'Fees for private sellers' help section there are a couple of options - 'Have us call you' and 'Chat with us'.
  21. I think the 70% off FVF offer only applied to auction listings. You could have used an auction listing with BIN added for an additional fixed fee of 50p. One drawback to this is that eBay now insist on the BIN price being at least 40% higher than the starting price which tends to lead you to lower the starting price which, of course, carries a risk if you do not get enough bidders.
