The narrower one looks a little better but there's not that much in it. What if you introduced some vertical pillars or other 3D element to the support walls? That would narrow the gap without necessarily reducing the girder span. Perhaps the wider span is needed to accommodate some additional infrastructure (railway or non-railway) like piping and/or a water main, or a footpath (with a fence?) ?

When I think of the Edwardian railways I think of a time when manpower was more plentiful and thus less expensive. This allowed more time to be devoted to keeping everything clean and polished. So locomotive and rolling stock liveries were more ornate and included more shiny bits. With this in mind it seems a pity not to fabricate an excuse for the local yeomanry to turn out in full ceremonial kit and some kind of royal connection sounds like an ideal excuse.

(Inevitably, I have some thoughts and opinions but it is likely that they all stray outside of the RMweb rules (of which I am supportive), so it's probably best I leave the topic alone.)

I hope you don't mind me asking, and thereby risking wandering off topic, but is it possible for a republican to serve in the armed forces, i.e. can one volunteer (or indeed be conscripted) to fight for one's country and wish to see the back of the monarchy? I am seeing parallels here with courts and so on and religion where there is a process in place for people to swear without the bible being involved.

The following three out of the original GER N7s received round-top firboxes after nationalisation (confirming Downer's post): 69602 (June 1949), 69609 (August 1948) and 69618 (July 1948). This was so soon after nationalisation that, as you say, they probably didn't get BR livery before being rebuilt.

69689 and 69695 withdrawn in 1957 and 1958 respectively were the only ones still with Belpaire fireboxes at withdrawal, but there were plenty of others that only received the round top firebox after nationalisationand quite a few not until the '50s.

I thought K stood for "Korridor" too (with the exception of RK and RKB where it meant "kitchen") and K was used because C denoted "Composite". So that matches what 31A says above. I am not aware there is anything to specifically indicate gangwayed coaches though. There were, for example, RC, CK, CO and SLC all with gangways.

It gets tricky sometimes though. I occasionally click Like in order to encourage modellers who are perhaps less experienced or who may have just embarked on a facet of our hobby which they have never tried before. If only the very best modelling received praise, then how many people would lose heart before their own standards improved? Then, of course, there's the dilema of whether or not to encourage some nutter who is determined to reproduce all the north country's walling stone by stone!

You have more than 47 followers Rob. It isn't a feature I make use of but yours is one of threads I read regularly. I'm sure that must be true of many more RMwebbers who are, like me, entertained by the combination of quality modelling and humour.
