TTS Decoder install in Class 67 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/130771-tts-decoder-install-in-class-67/

Maybe all, or some, of these could be combined into one TTS thread? :dontknow:

Rob

Edit: For another TTS thread to be added.

This topic duly pinned. This means that your post will remain on the topic list and not go 'out of date'. You are required to maintain it with extra posts and/or links to aid research by others.

Combining posts is very difficult to do and takes far too much time for the admin crew.

Although pinned posts are reviewed from time to time, I cannot recall one being unpinned whilst still relevant.

I would disagree with that in as much that lately quite a lot of people (me included) have said how good they are.  I accept that there have been issues but it is plain to see that Hornby have been sorting these and the latest decoders seem to be less troublesome.

OK there is a view that Hornby are using us the customer as Guinea Pigs and letting us test the items for them to iron out any issues and whilst that is possible they are also letting us purchase them at about a third of the price of one of the main players in the market.

So whilst in the first instance some of them were not that complimentary the ones I have been reading of late are far more so,

Yes at least 6 threads, few of them very complimentary.

I have been very positive about diesel TTS and have shared my successful experience of its use in Hornby, Bachmann and Heljan products. Steam TTS is a different kettle (pun intended) of fish. Until Hornby sync the exhaust beats to piston, rod and loco movement it is a waste of time in my opinion. But as ever, each to their own.

As this is relevant to TTS, http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/125527-ECoS-and-latest-tts-decoders/

I'm adding it to the list in the 1st post, although the topic has been running a lot longer than the others.

Assuming that this is now the correct thread for all things concerning TTS Sound does anyone know if there is a suitable place on the decoder where you could connect a capacitor to perform the Stay-Alive function.

My preferred choice of decoder is Zimo which has this facility available and while TTS is not in the same class, for me it does a decent job for a third of the price on some locos, but I do feel that Stay-Alive would be a benefit for slow running over complex pointwork.

Listening to tts sound locos on youtube the class 47 and 31 sounds pretty good but the class 40 sounds terrible. The start up seems too fast and then it settles into a distorted racket. The Bachmann D211 sounds much, much better and as good as any other available, I would say.

The stay alive installs at the positive and negative junctions of the decoder voltage regulator. The positive can simply be found at the blue cable pad but the negative you have to follow the four diodes making up the voltage regulator to spot this junction. Somewhere on the forums (Hornby DCC) there is a picture of an R8249 decoder annotated for stay alive as part of this same discussion over there some time ago.

I picked one up for forty pounds last saturay at a toy fair (class 40). If you use the cold start option it has a longer start up sequence. My particular example had been weathered nicely but more crucially perhaps had a replacement speaker which improves things too.

Best regards

TTS has 2 cold start variants according to firmware version.

The original TTS diesels had F9 which effectively pulled the choke out and then selecting F1 sent the normal start sequence into a longer set routine of huff and puff then into normal start. Much like a Morrie Minor.

The newer TTS with ECS has a random loop of can’t start, won’t start noises again invoked by F9 and F1. The loco will huff and puff endlessly failing to start until you deselect F9 whereupon it will enter the final startup sequence and settle to an idle. Much like a Ford Cortina.

What your loco has for these options is where it was in the production cycle i.e. how old it is. The TTS Class 08 introduced the new ECS (extended cold start) so anything after that in the catologue should have ECS. Unfortunately Hornby Marketing introduced the 08 as having this unique feature but failed to fully elaborate on it, so it largely went unnoticed by the public.

Have just tried a TTS 31 in a limby class 31 with a lima trainsrail body, have to admit although I was a sceptic of TTS the class 31 sound chip is quite superb!!! didn't have any issues with my ECoS all seems to be running ok, the sound project is very good, and is a decent volume, and making the CV changes recommended on here allowed the motor to run super smooth, I'm just about to buy 4 more chips to fit to my remaining limby class 31s for 35 quid its superb value for money. True its not as flexible as a loksound or a zimo but if the project sounds decent which the class 31 does there no reason not to consider it especially for a cheaper model like a limby 31.

Thumbs up to Hornby one very satisfied customer!

I have just tried it out with a spare TTS decoder in a Bachmann 08 - much modified which I have yet to write about - and it works well.

Has anyone tried fitting the Hornby TTS 08 coder out of the new model into the Bachmann version?

I'm impressed from the sounds I've seen on youtube but the DB livery is far too new for my interest or layout so am looking to fit to my NSE version.

Someone put one in a Dapol o gauge one with no issues so it should be fine in a Bachmann, you might just need a smaller, sugar cube speaker because there’s not that much space in Bachmann 08’s

Richard

Thanks for the info. Toying if to give this a try or wait and see if a more suitable livery version comes out in future.

2 31s both fitted, standard speaker

Hi, very impressive sounds from both locos.

Did you manage to consist the locos and double head on 128 speed steps?

I found I could only use 28 steps on mine, so I assumed TTS decoders do not  support advance consisting.
